Thank you, thank you Mark. Mark is awesome. If you want an honest caring lawyer Mark is the person. He took on my L & I case for my OJI back injury that was closed and won the battle. It was through a self insured co which made the task even harder. I will be receiving a pension now. Thanks Mark

I previously had an extremely unprofessional attorney up until last year. He got me cut off my time loss and I was seriously neglected. So I started to search the depths of the all mighty and powerful internet to find a good attorney. I came accross this site and read all about Mark. I had a sit down with him and instantly felt welcomed. He didn't look down at me nor looked at me like a paycheck. Within a month he had got my case back in order and got me my back time loss as well. I would recommend him anytime and to anyone. This is a great lawyer and a great firm to work with.

In Aug 07 I suffered an on the job injury. I tried to deal with the issue on my own. I was frustrated, scared, intimidated and felt alone, as well as suffering from extreme pain. A friend recommended the name of an attorney. Mark C. Wagner. I called Mr. Wagner's office and got an appointment right away. The office was easy to find, had a pleasant atmosphere and staff. I was even offered coffee. After my interview with Mr. Wagner and a member of his staff, I was relieved to hear that he would take my case on a contingency basis and felt confident that he had many years experience in his field and was familiar with Self Insured Injury claims. Mr. Wagner and his staff took care of everything, keeping in touch with me throughout as well as explaining the process to me, sending me copies of documents , and I could call the office any time with concerns or questions. As well as periodic appointments face to face so Mr. Wagner could explain things and see how I was doing. Mr. Wagner represented me in the necessary hearings, and even took the time to call me on days I was not required to attend to explain to me how the hearings were progressing. Mr. Wagner got the department to reopen my case, got my workers compensation reinstated as well as I received back pay. Mr. Wagner helped to get my medical reinstated and helped me arrange for the proper and necessary treatment I was in need of. Due to Mr. Wagner's belief in myself and my case, as well as his determination and dedication, I have now been awarded a pension for my work injury. I no longer have to worry about my future. I can now just concentrate on myself, and getting on with my life. I will and have recommend Mr. Mark C Wagner to anyone in need of an injury attorney, or any services he offers. He and his staff show the utmost level of professionalism, they are kind, compassionate, caring and honest.

I came to Mark in 2003 with a complicated and frustrating L&I claim with a combative and unsupportive employer. Mark cut through every roadblock with skill and determination. Mark then successfully applied the same tenacity to the subsequent Social Security fight. We were successful in both cases. It was a very good day in my life when I met Mark Wagner. I cant imagine how things might have been had Mark not been in our corner.

In the past 20-some years Bob has represented me 4 times. Twice he defended me against criminal charges, and twice was my advocate for injury claims. He was at all times most personable a friendly and always explained the realities of my situation and made sure that I understood what was going on. In all cases he obtained favorable results. His fees for criminal defense were less than what other lawyers quoted me and yet he went full out on my behalf as if I was his only client. (He is a sole practitioner and is sometimes very very busy.) Once he was too busy to take a case from me and referred me to another lawyer who handled my case with high competence and who obtained a great result for my claim. In addition to criminal defense and personal injury work, Bob has assisted my brother, (who is a musician), with some entertainment contracts and is well versed in entertainment law. There are truly not enough stars to rate how helpful Bob is!

My attorney was extremely helpful and considerate. She was flexible with her times to be able to contact me after work. And then did the impossible for me and got my case dismissed! Nothing but good things from these people ! :)

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Tacoma, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
