I had an urgent parenting plan contempt order that I needed to file since it was affecting my daughter's ability to attend school. When I called in I was directed to Anna and I'm thankful I was. Anna was not only quick but professional and was authentic, sympathetic to my situation. Anna and her team were there for us when we needed questions answered. The communication was excellent which I truly appreciate! Anna is a true professional and anyone that retains her services will be in great hands.

I hired Anna to complete my divorce case, which was very complicated and messy. Anna fought hard for me and my kids and set realistic expectations throughout the entire process. I could not have had a better attorney to help me navigate my divorce. I ended up being named the custodial parent and preserved a majority of my assets. She is very responsive and provided constant updates on my case and gave me options to keep costs down. I highly recommend her to anyone going through a divorce or family law issue.

Anna and her team were very consistent, kind, patient and compassionate. I had not had a good experience with a previous attorney so I went into this guarded and with great hesitation. Anna was consistent, kind and made sure to always keep in contact with me ensuring I was up to date with the process. Communication is very key during stressful hard times like this. I also appreciate how kind the team was and how patient through this process. There's a lot of emotions flying around and they were just so kind. In the end I felt heard, validated, and well represented. Myself and the other party involved were able to come to an agreement peacefully and I attribute some of that to good representation. Thank you Anna, team, and thank you to the firm as a whole. I will be coming back to you if ever I need any legal representation.

I PAID FOR A CONSULTATION WITH THE ELIZABETH CHRISTY LAW FRIM.. I WAS SENT TO MEET WITH ANNA.. SHE TOOK THE DEPOSIT AND LISTENED TO MY CASE. SHE PROVIDED ME INFORMATION ABOUT A COMMITTED INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP WITH THAT INFORMATION I CHOSE TO RETAIN HER. ONCE RETAINED SHE DID NOT RETURN MOST OF MY CALLS OR EMAIL FOR THE NEXT MONTH. I GOT MY RETAINER BACK AND FOUND ANOTHER ATTORNEY THAT EXPLAINED WHY HER INFORMATION WAS INCORRECT.. i WOULD STAY AWAY.

I hired Anna Sept 2019 to handle a big headache of mine; a change from out-of-state to in-state custody between me and my daughter's father. I won't go into the details, but there were serious issues involved that needed delicacy but also firmness. Anna was just the attorney (and woman!) for the job. Not only did she adeptly navigate the formalities for me, she also helped set me straight on what truly needed to be accomplished (and what could be accomplished). Anna made our first work-experience together painless. We struck a custody deal that I feel was the best outcome for our daughter. I could NEVER have gotten a deal like that without her skills. BUT THEN! Just a few short months after we settled the case, another big change happened in our lives and it was back to Anna to help us negotiate a new custody agreement that I was not sure was going to end pleasantly. As it turned out, Anna showed me how the law was in our favor. In the end, we were able to re-secure the best custody arrangement for our daughter despite the awful circumstances. Anna pulled through yet again with no less enthusiasm or empathy. She is prompt and also handled my "freak out" moments with grace and understanding. "Thank you, Anna, for being objective and kind in those moments." I've worked with other attorney's before and her work ranks among the best. I didn't get everything I "wanted," but I got everything I needed. I couldn't be more thankful for having found Anna in our time of need.

I worked with Chelsie Elliott for a few months in early 2022. She took over my case after another law firm was unable to make progress after six months. Chelsie was awesome in getting up to speed quickly and she kept me informed--I always knew the status of my case. When OP wanted to go to trial, Chelsie handed me off to a partner in her firm that was experienced with trials. Don't hesitate to contact her for family law legal needs!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Vancouver, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
