Matt. Is an extremely personable, positive and smart lawyer. He. Always made me feel like I was important, worthy of his time and treated me like I was #1 , even though I'm sure he had other very important cases to work on as well. He was so good for my self - esteem and self- worth as I had been in isolated from my for several months ( no contact). He could tell I needed a moral booster to lift myself to focus and concentrate; so we could go stragiize on moving forward. He gave me export opinion and advice but let me. Ultimately take the path I wanted too. I could tell he would be the best lawyer from my first phone call. I think it was on a weekend evening and at least a full hour of free advice. Other lawyers that I called admonished me for my crimes, ridiculed scoffed,,belittled me and talked to me as if I were a bad small child. I was very surprised and they were high profile attorneys that have work in the community. With Matt. So , I would say Matt treats his clients like they are people, worthy of being presumed innocent and worthy of professional help/advice. He values your time as much as his own. He actually delivered paperwork to me because of covid; . Meetiing me at nearby locations so I would not have to take public transportation. Getting paperwork faxed to me immediately. Always extremely focused, personable and at ease deliverance.m He would call immediately, astonishingly within 2 seconds ! Took away the self doubt and made me feel from beginning to end to stay strong and positive. He is a very smart , astute person and I feel he treats every client equally. He treats individuals like they are welcomed, not like they are criminals. He makes you feel like he has your back and then puts the trust back into your going forward. He really works hard , yet is so nice & personable. I am often late and he made sure I was on time , he is a very happy and positive person, that genuinely seems to empathize. I would often complain about how I had missed my family and all the holidays ( no contact) and he always said , "i`m sorry ". He is attentive and extremely organized and kept me in check. I accidentally dialed him after our case was over and he was very sweet as he was enjoying watching his daughter play soccer. Put your trust and time, money and hire Mathew Hoff. I would do it again., ... He helped with 2 counts dv4 ; 2 counts no contact. Very positive outcome .

This was our 1st time looking for criminal defense attorney for our young son. We had interviewed approx. 5 other lawyers and were trying to make the best decision possible. From the moment we walked into Brian Walker Law Firm, the staff put us at ease immediately. Yesenia was there to answer any questions prior to consultation with Brian Walker. When we sat down with Mr. Walker, he asked how we were doing prior to jumping into the legal stuff. This was the 1st Law Firm/Lawyer to ask about us personally during this extremely difficult legal situation. From that moment on, we knew Brian Walker was the Lawyer for us! During the 2.5 year legal roller coaster, Brian & Yesenia were always available to answer our questions timely and help for us to understand the legal process despite this being the worst situation of our lives. Brian "The Bulldog" Walker (our nickname for Mr. Walker as he was fighting for what is right & just) took on our case and ensured us all of our legal matters would be handled professionally and with his superior expertise. Mr. Walker had a defense lined up for these ridiculous charges and case was dismissed. There is NO other defense attorney we would ever utilize! Brian Walker & Yesenia are the TEAM FOR YOU! Don't waste your time looking & interviewing other attorneys as there is NO COMPARISON! THANK YOU BRAIN & YESENIA

James Howsley and I worked on a joint Land Use project near Ridgefield, Washington.several years ago. He was very competent and professional in his approach and as a result both of our clients prevailed in getting their land accepted by the City of Ridgefield even thou their land was on the other side of the I-5 freeway from the City of Ridgefield.

Marisa Nelson (and team) are absolutely amazing at everything they do! Not only did Marisa help me through some of the hardest years, she also went above and beyond to give our case 110%! She knew everything about our case inside and out. She was always very responsive. She'd help answer any questions I had. Gave great advice when needed, and fought just as hard as me for what's best for my kids! If you're looking for a caring, professional attorney that will give your case the best chance, hire her!

Anne was the perfect choice for me! I love her style, professional yet with an easygoing way about her. She made me feel comfortable while drawing up my estate planing/will. I enjoyed having a lawyer that has a sense of humor and not all stuffy and uptight!!! I would highly recommend her and I am thankful to have her as my lawyer.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the expected timeline for my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What challenges do you foresee in my case?
Understanding potential obstacles helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to resolve my legal issue?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Vancouver, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
