I had a criminal reckless along with a few other traffic violations that I thought I would have no way of beating. I spoke with a few lawyers and none made me feel as assured and comfortable as John Mucklestone. As well none had given me a price that I could afford. Thankfully I found him and hired him, and now cleared of everything with nothing on my record. God willing I won’t need him again but if in any trouble in the future I know who to call.

Our Company hired John to handle a weigh station ticket for one of our truck drivers; John was quick to respond, and the ticket was dismissed in a timely manner. The whole process was easy, and we are happy to keep the ticket off of our driver's record. Thank you, John!

I have used John and referred John to friends, family and work colleagues since the early 90's, after a neighbor referred him to me when I got a speeding ticket. He has always been effective and efficient and I have never gotten any negative feedback. On one occasion I referred a neighbor to John who had a DUI arrest. Obviously, there is much more interaction required with your attorney on such a serious offence. Bottom line, my neighbor was very pleased with the ultimate outcome of that case and the communication John provided throughout the process.

John Ely, Debbie Hunt and staff are working on my ugly divorce case currently. I am very pleased as to how well they have been handling my case. I could tell from the minute that I first called that they were fully equipped to represent me. I had previously called other offices and they did not seem interested in seeing what they could help me with right away or asking me questions about the divorce papers that I had just received. My case was time sensitive and Ely and his staff got me going right away. Their professionalism, expertise, compassion, and time management have all been wonderful and have lead me to write this great review.

John Ely is my divorce attorney. Opposing council has been highly abrasive with every contact. John actually guarded me from most of the irrelevant ramblings in opposing council's letters, designed to intimidate. John knew my emotional state of mind was not strong enough to read every ridiculous letter he received during this long, drawn out case. I was always notified and supported by he and his talented staff. Any questions I had were answered clearly. Most of the time; I was cared for so well, I felt like I was his only client, (he has many clients.) I feel my case was handled well and I felt cared for and protected from any harm. I would certainly recommend John Ely.

John Ely is currently representing me in a divorce case. I have found him to be extremely trustworthy and knowledgeable about my divorce case. Our case is pretty simple, but he has a very good feel for what the courts will approve if it goes to trial. My case went to trial today and he was pretty accurate with his predictions about how it would turn out, not that he could guarantee it, as you never know how a judge will decide, but had a good sense for what was fair in the eyes of the court. He and his legal team have been very responsive to my questions. He kept me informed before and after the trial about what would happen and what did happen. I'm still in the middle of my divorce, but I'm extremely satisfied with my lawyer.

Caleb represented us in a very sensitive and emotional family matter. From day 1, he instilled confidence and peace in us and guided us through the process answering our MANY questions about the status, legal options and future implications of the case which he handled for us. Ultimately, he achieved the desired outcome as promised and took the entire burden of our situation off our plate and handled it for us. As much as any legal matter can be low-stress, Caleb went above and beyond. If you are looking for a reliable, trustworthy attorney who operates aggressively but with integrity, Caleb is your guy!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Woodinville, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
