I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the mediation services David Hazel provided our family which led to the resolution of my father's estate. Dave's professionalism, expertise, and commitment to fostering understanding among all parties involved was vital in achieving resolve we all were hoping for. Upon my first interaction, not only was I impressed with his firm knowledge of Washington estate law, but also how well he understood the intricacies within our unique family dynamic and what led to our subsequent stalemate. His attention to detail instilled confidence in me that we were in capable hands. In addition to his knowledge base, what really sets Dave apart is his genuine caring and empathetic approach for the people he’s working with. He took the time to listen to our concerns, fears, and hopes, providing a safe and supportive environment for open dialogue. He then skillfully facilitated conversations, helping us navigate complex and emotionally charged issues we weren’t able to handle on our own. I truly believe it was his patient and compassionate demeanor that made it easier for all parties to lower our walls and ultimately find our way to resolution. Dave made every effort to ensure all voices were heard and respected. Throughout the process, it was reassuring for me to witness his ability to remain neutral, maintain positive focus of the end goal, and offer out of the box solutions to our case’s particular challenges. For these reasons, I can absolutely say that Dave Hazel was instrumental in accomplishing resolution that worked for everyone. This outcome would have been nearly impossible without his guidance and support. If you're looking for a mediator who goes above and beyond, Dave is the one to trust.

Recognizing the damaged relationships between the co-personal representatives and the beneficiaries, Dave wisely understood that a harmonious reconciliation was unlikely. As a result, he implemented a swift resolution process, ensuring that we received our rightful inheritance promptly. This decisive action brought closure to a prolonged and emotionally taxing chapter. I want to express my profound gratitude to David Hazel Mediation for his steadfast support and unparalleled expertise during this trying period in my life. I never write reviews, but make an exception because David Abeyta and his law firm deserve an excellent review. My husband was the victim of a dog attack in 2022. We’ve lived in a quiet Ellensburg neighborhood for about 15 years and my husband uses a walker. When he exited our fenced area to our mailbox on the street, a neighbor’s dog came out of nowhere from behind, and threw my husband to the pavement, leaving him immobile with a broken pelvis and in extreme pain. He spent two weeks in the hospital and it took him a good six months to recover. We sought legal help from Abeyta Nelson, and David and his staff did an excellent job. People sometimes think they can do everything themselves and don’t need a lawyer or think it will cost too much. But someone in an injury crisis may not have good judgment when upset and distracted. Good legal representation is needed and is well worth the cost of the services. Insurance companies often pressure people to settle quickly for a low dollar amount, before the full extent of injury is known. Settling too quickly can be a serious mistake. Here are the reasons I chose Abeyta Nelson to help us through this crisis to a good settlement figure: 1) When my husband was injured and in the hospital, I knew I was not in the right mental state to use good judgment; 2) I wanted specialized legal help from a law firm focusing on and current in this area of law with a good understanding of what a reasonable settlement should be; 3) The Abeyta Nelson firm specializes in personal injury. 4) The firm has an Ellensburg office, which made communications easier for me while caring for my injured spouse; 5) The firm has an excellent reputation and has secured many high-dollar settlements and judgments; 6) David and his staff were courteous and responded quickly to my calls; 7) David is very experienced in this area of law; 8) David personally visited with us several times, both on the phone and in person, including making trips to our home when needed; 9) David understands the administrative and legal complexities of working with insurance companies (including Medicare) and how long it takes to finalize billing; 10) David and his staff successfully interfaced with Medicare and our supplement provider to take the administrative burden off me while caring for my injured spouse – to me, that alone was worth the reasonable cost of the legal services; 11) I knew that if David could achieve a good settlement figure it would spare us the extra stress, uncertainty, time and expense (deducted from any judgment) involved with going to trial; 12) But I also knew that if the insurance company was unwilling to settle with a satisfactory sum, the firm is well known and respected, and David wouldn’t hesitate to take the matter to trial. Insurance companies know this too – they know they can’t manipulate the victim to a low settlement when dealing with a firm of the Abeyta Nelson reputation. 13) Having a lawyer represent us took the stress and pressure off me so I did not have to talk to the other party’s insurance representative, deal with insurance issues, or make difficult decisions without competent advice. It took over a year during recovery working with David and his staff to finalize our case, but David secured a very attractive settlement. While one hopes never to be injured and need legal help, if you need competent, trustworthy, caring, experienced and respected legal representation, I highly recommend David Abeyta and his firm.

I was watching TV when an uninsured motorist crashed into my home. The car struck the chair I was sitting in. I was rendered unconscious and received whiplash and a serious concussion. My daughter contacted David Abeyta. The driver was uninsured and I Truly didn’t expect any financial help, as I was renting and had no rental insurance. David secured payment of the full amount of the uninsured motorist coverage of my car insurance.

Darrell is more than just my attorney, is my friend. With his help I would not have won my 10 year battle with WA State's workman's comp. After an on the job injury in 1998, I developed a chronic pain condition known as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome-(CRPS) Darrell believed me when I said the pain was REAL-not in my head, and he and his staff (Cossette N) helped me win my long battle! Darrell and I have knowon each other now some 15 years.

Honest, dependable, exceedingly bright, intelligent, reliable predictions and recommendations, superb case law research, tenacious pursuit for a client-oriented result tempered with pragmatism which ultimately prevailed in proving our cause and winning our case with the favorable result and vindication we sought. If we had lost the case my recommendation for Rob would be the same. I don't think anyone can ask for more in their representation. Ours was not a simple process. We felt our position was morally and legally correct and therefore we were not willing to compromise or settle. Rob stuck with us. Our case lasted 6 1/2 years involving lower court and higher court rulings, summary judgments, higher court appeals, poor and mistaken lower court rulings, and ultimately higher court rulings rectifying the lower court errors. Rob's performance throughout was excellent in all venues revealing a thorough mastery of the law and competence in strategic preparation, planning, presentation, and higher court appeal processes.

I had a lengthy employment/non-compete case that went to trial and beyond, the other side was relentless...their flashy, big city attorneys tried everything (we won, every step of the way). Rob was always beyond prepared and could counter any attack like a well experienced professional. He does his homework and it shows. He also has a gift for crafting clever & logical analogies on the spot.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Yakima, Washington?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
