I wanted to share a great experience I had with Manchin Ferretti Law Group. After a car accident, I was feeling overwhelmed and unsure of my next steps. The insurance company for the other driver wasn't being very helpful, and I wasn't sure if I was being taken advantage of. I decided to reach out to Manchin Ferretti based on their positive Google reviews. I was immediately impressed by the paralegal's helpfulness and the attorney Laura Davis's willingness to take the time to review my case. Even though she couldn't personally help me, she provided valuable guidance and resources. I'm so grateful for her help and the peace of mind it gave me. If you ever need legal assistance, I highly recommend Manchin Ferretti Law Group.

Mr. Ferretti was wonderful to work with. His knowledge in cases like mine was unsurpassable. Mr. Ferretti did a great job explaining the process and my options to me. He is personable and caring. His staff is efficient and friendly. Mr. Ferretti was able to negotiate the best possible settlement for my case. I appreciate all that he and his staff did to assist me and highly recommend Mr. Ferretti.

Fantastic Law Firm. Everyone was professional and expressed concern for my family. I recommend Manchin Ferretti for any Injury that you may have. Don't go at the insurance company alone.

The receptionist I spoke to after my initial intake email was extremely prompt and polite. Unfortunately, I can't say the same thing about the lawyer I spoke to. I believe it was Manchin, but either way, from the get-go, it was clear that either this guy hadn't even taken a peek at the details I provided them before he called me, or he thought the injury and subsequent issues I was calling about were so laughable that he just had to call me and reiterate a dozen times why he was confused that I was getting in touch with them. Next time you have someone come to you for help, instead of demeaning them, try explaining to them what qualifies for your assistance and what doesn't. People call lawyers because they feel like they've been put in an unfair financial and psychological position due to circumstances out of their control. For some reason, though, even after explaining my worries and my situation to the lawyer, he was asking ME what I believe I'm entitled to and did it in the most disrespectful manner. I don't know what I feel like I'm entitled to, and that's why I called you. Confused why I would be concerned about 5 misdiagnoses. Confused why I would be concerned about the time I've missed from work because of it. Confused why I would be concerned that I've been working in pain for months because of it. Confused why I felt like I was going crazy for months because doctors told me nothing was wrong with me. Confused why I thought I'd be entitled to FMLA with my previous employer where the issue started and confused why I would change jobs... I would've sworn I was speaking French to this guy. Absolutely terrible client service. Maybe he's just so used to fake neck injury lawsuits that this one was beyond his scope of expertise.

Could not have worked with a better office after my automobile accident. Laura Davis kept me up to date on case progress and very personable. The rest of her support staff were in touch with me also. Well done. Thanks Laura.

Thru her wealth of knowledge on the subject of criminal defense law combined with her experience as a prosecutor, she brought a tenacious defense that was tempered with a caring manner to our case. She utilized many outstanding, unique, and very creative strategies both inside and out of the court room to bring our case to a acceptable resolution. My family interviewed multiple possible lawyers before choosing Kim. I distinctly remember being impressed by her thoroughness and aggressive manner towards the facts of the case, but assumed that she would eventually tire and not have much time for us. Kim did the opposite - she kept us informed, always had time for us, and showed an amazing ability to make everyone feel important while level setting expectations. Even in the face of an unethical law enforcement and prosecution she held firm to the beliefs and standards of the criminal justice systems. I would like to say that Kim took a particular interest in helping us, as her clients, to achieve our goals, but I believe that she feels and acts the exact same way towards all of her clients and cases. She is a great lawyer that I would highly recommend and feel privileged to have had her represent my family.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Martinsburg, West Virginia?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
