Had him in the past. Biggest mistake ever! He didn’t take My information correctly when writing letters to my ex”s attorney. Paid him a high retainer nothing really happened for several month and all $6000 was used up. No itemized bill. Did not at all represent me to help me in any way. I’ve shared this story with others.

Rick Bollenbeck is a true professional who can handle matters efficiently and treated us with care. I am quite grateful because I have worked with several attorneys now on various matters. It is quite apparent that some will play games with you... at your expense...maybe they just show their insecurities at some point, I don't know. If you can present your situation to Rick Bollenbeck, he will be able to help you as much as possible. He is very knowledgeable about law and is approachable. He delivers service because that is his style. Those characteristics seem to be quite unique. If you seriously need representation in a legal matter, consider Rick Bollenbeck.

I hired Mr. Bollenbeck to represent me in my DWI case. I was informed that I was treated unfairly and that it was a clean cut case, he could easily help me. I was informed of the fee which was high but he told me I could pay in two installments which also made me think he cares for me and my situation. After paying the total amount I met with him to review my case and he told me I should except the plea deal and I would be lucky to get that. I thought I had a good chance with my case so I was confused. He said he has seen cases like mine before and I had no chance, however if I wanted to bring it to trial we could do that but there would be additional fees and as well I would have to provide him with a fee to start researching and pay by the hour. He said he would not recommend it because it would cost thousands and I had no chance. I decided to switch attorneys and won my case. He did no work, or research into my case and made me believe he was on my side. I am very tight on cash and felt as if not only did he let me down but knowingly took my money and there would be no other options for me. The worst part is after all of this he kept my money and that was it no letter no phone call, just took the money and ran. Thank the lord for mothers, or I wouldn't have found someone who trusted and believed in me. There are good lawyers out there, don't make the same mistake I did.

I’ve never had any experience with having a lawyer, and honestly it terrified me. Thankfully Jacob was by my side for this case. His confidence assured me I was in good hands. He’s very calm and collected, making this situation a breeze when I expected a hurricane. If I ever get into any kind of legal conflict, Jacob is the first one I’m calling without a doubt.

Attorney Scott Metz is the best. We would give him a 10 if we could. He has helped us with an injury. He is very personable. He cares and he listens. He treats others how he wants to be treated. He went over our case with us, that we had no questions. We see him as our friend now and we feel he sees us the same. He is always there for a new case, if he could help, he would. He got the job done for us, but most of all, it was the caring that mattered to us and he does care for his clients.

Scott Metz is one of the most upstanding individuals I have come across in my lifetime. He is knowledgable, professional, understanding and kind. He is one of the most respected attorney's in the Fox Valley and works tirelessly for his clients. He is able to fight for the rights of his client while maintaining a non-biased and level demeanor during the process. He is fair, honest and dependable in his representation and is always an advocate for his client. I will recommend him to any person looking for counsel, particular for family law.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Appleton, Wisconsin?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
