Hired at 325$ an hour with expectations he'd be motivated, diligent, and accurate was not what I received. He had to be reminded constantly that I was waiting patiently for action. Which I got charged for. He waited so long to act he lost track of details. When asked why he didn't submit documents, he didn't feel it was necessary. He consumed money by making mistakes, I had to correct, then charged me. Failed to gather ALL information given to him so he had to correct and reserve 4 ppl and amended court documents costing me more money. Overall, I wasn't impressed. He was fired, showed up to court anyway then charged me. He must be hard up for $$$. That he has to take money from a single woman that has a limited income to fatten his wallet. This is my perception of my 10month encounter with Steve and $7,000+ dollars later. It took Steve over 9 months to get a court date. Documents only require 20 days to respond. Thats a lot of wasted time. Steve was hire in Feb. I was expect to have the house on the market in the spring. His lackadaisical approach is frustrating. Emails were written and a special meeting was made to get my point across. Steve didn't need my signature to withdraw from my case. Him showing up for court was an obligation to the court system not me, as he no longer was my employee. He charged me for drive time and the time he waited to tell the judge he was terminated. He's not a stand-up guy in my book. My advice, go somewhere else.

I have seen both sides of this law firm; the courtroom side and the client side. Attorneys Koch, Duquette, and Renz and their staff are top notch. They listen empathetically when needed, yet shoot straight, clearly and concisely. They got the exact results I was looking for in my divorce. I would hire them again.

Atty Koch walked me through every step of my high conflict child custody case. My case was very contentious. He managed my expectations at the first meeting and told me what the most likely custody that I would be awarded. He never sugar coated anything. He was prompt at returning phone calls and emails. This was a rough/stressful time in my life and I was confident I would get the results we talked about. Upon meeting Atty Koch, he made a statement to me that had helped me through the months of the court process “the wheels of justice grind slowly”.... meaning everybody wants court to be done yesterday- including myself.... but that isn’t the case. Be patient. If I ever need a lawyer again I already know who I’m calling.

I hired Timothy Mistrioty for my daughter who received 4 tickets in Walworth, Wisconsin . I was horrified at the fact that one of the tickets was a DUI. My daughter only 23, I knew this could ruin her life. Not that she didn't create the problem herself however I have always believed people deserve a second chance. I have little faith in attorneys as most seem to just line their pockets with your money ! I could not ask for a more reasonable contract/payment for what he was about to do (however I thought it was going to be a waste of hard earned money at the time we hired him...Boy was I wrong) ! I couldn't have been any more satisfied with the outcome. He managed to get 2 tickets dismissed and the DUI amended down to Reckless driving. A paraphernalia charge amended to a disorderly conduct. Honestly how could anyone expect better than that outcome ! My daughter and I are so THANKFUL for a real attorney who fought for her and possibly changed what could have been a black cloud forever. The moment that he gave us the outcome a huge burden was lifted and a heartbreak mended !! Thank you Timothy Mistrioty for your true dedication and concern for my daughter's future ! It will be much brighter because of you !! God bless you !

My husband and I hired Mr. Lisle Blackbourn to represent us in a case against the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. The DNR had permanently flooded our property that was surrounded by their wetland restoration project. It seems that the DNR doesn't always have the best reputation for being concerned about the welfare of Wisconsin residents that have been affected by their actions. Many people had told us that if you are dealing with the DNR you will never win. Well, how WRONG they were! From the moment we met Lisle, professionalism showed. The extensive amount of preperation and gathering of evidence left no voids. All actions always received quick response from him and his team. He left no gaps for the DNR to wiggle through to disprove their guilt. Lisle won the case and we were fairly compensated for the DNR's actions. Lisle Blackbourn also took great care to make sure that all wording in the final documents would protect us into the future. My husband and I actually think that Mr. Lisle Blackbourn is the only lawyer that could have handled this case. The amount of intelligence that he and his team possess could not be outdone. We had been criticized in the past for using a local lawyer and not going with a big city law firm. Nonsense! WE WON, and to think it all started with Lisle Blackbourn's ad in the "yellow Pages". We are forever grateful to him.

Attorney Danz has handled a child custody case, potential criminal case which resulted in no charges being filed, and a professional licensure issue for me. Additionally I have recommended Danz to employees who have used him with highly positive results. His fees are very much in line with other area attorneys. He has argued before the State Supreme Court and has a background in law enforcement as well as being the former DA for 15 years in Walworth County. I am an area business owner, and highly recommend

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Elkhorn, Wisconsin?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
