I worked with attorney Dahl last summer, and I am glad I did because she provides great services. She was kind, hard-working, gave good advice, and helped me every step of the way. Great lawyer!

When my son was born his mother refused to let me see him for the first six months of his life. The first lawyer I hired did absolutely nothing in mine or my sons best interest, so I fired her and hired Attorney Dahl. Looking back, I now know this was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. My only regret is I wish I would have done it sooner or just hired her from the beginning. Attorney Dahl always had my back; whether it was laying out exactly what the courts expectations were, to explaining the process and what I should expect, to answering my calls/texts/emails at all hours of the night just so I could vent my frustration with the situation, to offering flexible payment options, to taking a genuine interest in my case and treating me like family, to helping me get 50/50 custody of my son. Words alone can’t express how grateful I am for Attorney Dahl. She is extremely knowledgeable, professional, personable, and an absolute delight to work with. With Attorney Dahl there was no beating around the bush, or making promises she couldn’t deliver, in fact she was very straightforward and blunt about what I needed to fix with myself in order to be a better person, a better father, and be able to effectively co-parent. I honestly couldn’t have done it without Attorney Dahl and am forever indebted to her. I’ve said it a million times and I’ll say it again, THANK YOU for everything Brenda, you truly are my guardian angel!!!!

I was sighted and had no hope to beat this ticket. I hired Brenda based on several good recommendations in the community. She fought very aggressively at my trial and we lost due to some politics. She then appealed the case to a higher court and we won! Thank you Brenda!

With Brenda, I got the exact representation I was looking for. I also got my desired result which I understood to be hard to obtain. I would recommend her to anybody as a family lawyer

I've been in and out of court the last 14 years enforcing my visitation rights, contempt issues and parental alienation done so by my ex and his wife. I felt as if I were in a losing battle having no choice but to accept defeat and be at the mercy of my ex and his wife, with them having complete and undeserved control through their lies and manipulation. That all changed when I found Brenda. Not only did Brenda fight for me in a total professional manner, but also on a personal level as well. Anytime we were in court, she was so passionate as if it were her own case she was representing. I never had to speak, because she covered all bases for me so I wouldn't have to. I can't thank her enough for the empowerment she provided me with throughout this case. I do not feel so beat down as I have over the course of all these years, I feel human again, and I owe that to Brenda not only being a wonderful attorney, but someone who I would now consider a friend.

I would very highly recommend attorney Christopher Rose to anyone in need of legal services. I hired him to represent my son when he was facing a few very serious felonies. My son admittedly denied he wasn't guilty and after meeting with two other attorneys that told my son to take a plea deal, Attorney Rose listened to the whole case and hired an investigator to PROVE my son was innocent. The evidence didn't lie and thanks to him my son is back home with his family. Attorney Christopher Rose is viewed as one of the most respected attorney in Kenosha. The judges said in the Kenosha News "he is the only attorney in Kenosha capable of taking on the big cases. This is why he was given the Mark Jensen defence case"

Atty Dillhoff represented me for bankruptcy. She is very compassionate in her work and helped me 100%. Explained each step that would take place, and was understanding if I didn't understand certain procedures. I would recommend her to anyone.

Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Kenosha, Wisconsin?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
