I should have hired her from them beginning of the case! I hesitated, hired someone else, after no result I came back to her, and she solved the problem. THANK YOU Shabnam for being a good human as well as serving your clients with the best knowledge that you have. You are the best! My parents immigration case took 4 years in total but they wouldn't have been here TOGETHER if it was not because of her help.

I did everything I could to get my father in the US during the pandemic, and I failed. Shabnam literally made it happen for us, and saved my father a greencard. I wish I could tell more of her.

We hired Atty. Shabnam Lofti as our lawyer in my I-485. She is very sweet and accomodating as well as her partner Atty. Veronica..You can call, text or write them anytime and they are always ready to answer or extend help. She is the best lawyer that I can recommend here in Wisconsin.I have complicated issues regarding my documents but she was very smart and brillant..and up to my interview she was very helpful inspite of that she was pregnant that time, and it was February, it's Winter but all the way from Madison to Milwaukee she drove and joined us in our interview..Now, I am so happy that I have my 10-year green card and didnt regret that I got her as our immigration lawyer..I am also thankful with her partner, Atty. Veronica Sustic . And of course I will get them again in my application for Citizenship ..and for those who have complicated cases on your green card application , we highly recommend Atty. Shabnam and I assure you, you will get it. .

Shabnam helped us successfully complete our case in a timely manner with no setbacks. Neither I nor my spouse truly understood the immigration process, but Shabnam was very patient and clear in her explanation of it. She answered all our questions thoroughly and in as much detail as she could provide given our circumstances. She is very knowledgeable about immigration and always asked the right questions to see if we fell into categories that might make our process more difficult and worked with us to find solutions to the problems before they arose. I give her preventative approach to everything credit for how fast and smoothly everything went. All in all, she was incredibly helpful and always put our concerns first when figuring out how to manage our case.

Many of the lawyers won't even do consultation without a pre-payment. But I called Ms. Lotfi, and she got back to me very quickly with guidance and helpful points for free.

Rick Coad has been a patient, prompt, thorough and persistent representative of my interests in an insurance claim. He was reasonable and logical in his assessment. I was more than satisfied with his skills and the conclusion of the case. I would hire him again in a minute!

Richard Coad handled a matter for me that was unique, complex, and 20 years old. Something that had been nagging at me for two decades. Over the course of that time I had consulted with other attorneys and none of them had a clue on how to handle it, or had even heard of a situation like mine. When I reached out to Mr. Coad for guidance on my case he was in a remote area vacationing with his family but still took the time to respond. He seemed highly intrigued by my case and showed a genuine interest in getting me the result I wanted. Not only did he succeed in an honestly impressive manner, but he was always easy to reach and kept me well informed every step of the way. An outstanding attorney with a big heart and a pretty good sense of humor too.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Madison, Wisconsin?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
