Wasted 2 years on an intent to deliver meth charges. Never talked. Then quit. Won't give file to new attorney.

Pros
1
Knowledgeable and dedicated to the profession
“Attorney Jelinski is amazing. He brought a case that I had pending in circuit court sinc”
2
Honest and transparent about mistakes
“Good attorney... Very dedicated to the profession.... Will admit when she's messed up .... So honestly among the legal profession is rare, so I admire Kim for being truthful”
3
Achieves successful outcomes for clients
“This lady is the real deal!!!! She helped me win a case that was unwinnable! And we walked away victorius!!!!!!!”
4
Genuinely cares about clients and their cases
“Paul was amazing... He got my case outright dismissed!! He actually listens to you and is very knowledgeable. It's not often you find a lawyer that actually cares.”
Cons
1
Poor communication and responsiveness
“Terrible communication, cancels or doesn't show up to court appearances, did very little for my custody and child support and in the end was given the bare minimum for custody and maximum for support payments, I would have been better off representing myself”
2
Lack of focus on client's best interests, more concerned with profits
“Doesn't have the Childs best interest in mind. Takes her time like peoples life's aren't hanging in the balance. Whoever sends the most emails to her office or calls will get there way even if it is opposite of child's wants. Innocents happen and she doesn't follow up. I filed a grievance with the state personally hope she isn't a GAL for my worst enemy she's that bad.”
3
Neglectful of client's cases and responsibilities
“I had him for 7 months for a charge I didnt do. He was withdrawing funds from my paychecks monthly. When we met up he told me he forgot about my case.... I was still paying him. He wasnt helpful and didnt seem to care about my case even though I was paying him. Waste of money.”

William is an outstanding lawyer! He brought my case to a jury trial, and I was found NOT GUILTY. He was very honest throughout the whole process and I trusted his judgement. He was available whenever I needed to talk to him, and he listened it all my concerns. He is a great communicator, compassionate, and knew exactly what to say to the jury. William is a very smart and professional lawyer. I cannot thank him enough! This DUI was the scariest situation I have ever been in. I spent almost 4 months of my life living in fear. I could have lost my career, driving privileges, and had to serve jail time. I highly recommend him!! I can put this horrible situation behind me because of William. Thank you so so much, William! Thanks to Petit & Dommershausen law office staff. Great firm.

Attorney Ackell got a ridiculous temporary restraining order dismissed that was placed against me over a year after the fact. He did this while I was 1600 miles away. I got to appear by phone at the hearing. Attorney Ackell was in constant contact with me and had less than a week to prepare for court. He came up with an excellent strategy based on the facts of the case. He was well spoken and quite obviously knows how to present good solid evidence at court. The TRO was dismissed and I can go on with my life. Thank you Attorney Ackell!!!

I hired Atty. Taggart after being charged with 3 misdemeanors. She always got back to me and was thorough in answering my questions the best she could. I could not have asked for a better result at the end of my case. I definitely recommend.

My boyfriend and I worked with Kayla Taggart. I can not say enough. She was awesome from start to finish, and I would definitely use her as a an attorney if I need to again. Long story short, my boyfriend was facing a residency restriction, based on an event that happened ten years ago. I was calling around to different places in Appleton and Green Bay with the no luck. I then called her law office. The secretary that answered told me that she might have someone to help us. I talked with Kayla and she said that she would be interested. We met with her several times. She read through the material that we gave her and she also did some digging to get us the background that we needed to be successful. She also coached my boyfriend through the process. This made both him and I more comfortable. She was positive, but didn't sell us a dream. She covered multiple scenarios and how we would tackle each one. As someone who has been involved with attorneys in the past, this is by far the best one I have ever had. If you are ever in a pickle, give Kayla a call. She definitely has a passion for her career and her clients.

I was facing a very challenging situation. Greg put me at ease from the first time I talked to him. I felt he really cared about me and my family, and he was always available when I needed him. He clearly explains the process and the strategies he is using and is patient. I'm so happy I had him in my corner. The judge was even impressed with him. I heard the judge compliment him on his thoroughness and level of preparation. I'm sure that doesn't happen to most lawyers. I can never thank him enough.

What Questions Should I Ask Before Hiring a Lawyer?

Hiring the right lawyer is crucial for the success of your case. Here are some important questions to ask during your initial consultation:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Menasha, Wisconsin?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
