It was a pleasure to work with Attorney Robert Arthur. I needed an attorney to advise me for a local production company that did filming on my property without my knowledge or approval. Attorney Arthur was extremely knowledgeable, and made sure that I understood the “gray area” of the law. He listened very attentively, without interruption to make sure he had a thorough understanding of the issue at hand; and then reiterated what I was looking for.. He then explained in great detail what the law allows, and next steps. Attorney Arthur then sent out detailed correspondence to opposing counsel and myself, after every conversation we had. Attorney Arthur was always responsive to my phone calls, texts, and email. I highly recommend working with Attorney Arthur. Some attorneys do not feel the need to communicate the law to their clients level of understanding. Some also fail to keep clients informed of their case details, step-by-step. This was not the case with Attorney Arthur, and he exceeded my expectations.

Recently, I hired Attorney Robert McMillan Arthur to help me with a couple of legal matters on my FMLA and obtaining guardianship for my brother. My experience with him was a positive one. What stood out the most was that he was kind in working with my family and me. And that simple kindness in that first interaction with him helped me in making the decision to hire him. I just knew that he was the right lawyer to help us. When my mother and I first met with him for the initial consultation, he showed genuine concern for my legal issues by actively listening. He took the time to explain guardianship and the process in obtaining it. And throughout the process, he was patient and thorough in answering all our questions. For my FMLA issue, I needed supporting document for my Family Medical Leave of Absence in taking care of my brother after hospitalization, so Attorney Robert McMillan Arthur obtained the proof of guardianship by filing the guardianship forms on my brother immediately. Also, he took care of faxing the proof of guardianship document and communicating with my employer on my FMLA issue. This really helped me tremendously, in that, my FMLA was then approved with the supporting document that he submitted on my behalf. And with the guardianship, there were numerous documents that had to be completed and filed with the court. It involved having to file these documents in person at the courthouse on several visits; and he filed these guardianship documents timely so that we were able to proceed with the temporary and permanent guardianship hearings as scheduled. Also, he prepared my family and me for the hearings so that we can be ready and confident in testifying at the hearings. He made everything seamless from my FMLA to obtaining guardianship. I did not worry about anything knowing that he was working to help me with my legal matters. Moreover, he is highly knowledgeable and an expert in his law practice. He delivers exemplary work in law. His work is impressive. Quality, Excellence, and Professionalism shows through in his work, communication, and interaction with people as he did with my family and me. Overall, he delivered high quality work in helping me with my legal matters by going the extra mile. I am happy and completely satisfied with the legal services he provided as the results achieved on my FMLA and guardianship are positive. I would recommend Attorney Robert McMillan Arthur to others who need and is seeking legal assistance as he is a Top Attorney who cares about his clients in achieving desirable results. I have complete confidence and trust working with him. We greatly benefited from the elite legal services he provided in our case; and I am immensely thankful to him. Thank you so much!

I cannot recommend Adam Tutaj highly enough. He is, hands-down, an excellent attorney. From the moment I started working with Adam, it was apparent he had a genuine interest in the well-being of my business. Adam provided much-needed reassurance as a new business owner facing a messy legal landscape, and his plan and suggestions quickly put me at ease. Beyond his empathetic nature, Adam is highly knowledgeable and skilled in business and healthcare law. The thorough advice and guidance he provided every step of the way is immeasurable. Adam anticipated potential issues and provided effective solutions that protected my business interests. He was responsive and communicative, keeping me informed of the status of my legal matters and answering any questions I had along the way. Thank you, Adam, for all that you do!

An honest, professional, and transparent law firm you can trust. I came here after another firm delivered some very questionable estate planning documents to me, among poor treatment and customer service. This firm had corrected every mistake and closed every hole the other firm left behind. Stafford really saved my butt here. Truly thankful. Such a kind team as well.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Milwaukee, Wisconsin?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
