Stuart was great from day one helping us through the visa process. Was always on hand to answer calls and emails in a timely manner. His time lines for the visa process were very accurate. He came to the interview with my wife and I and helped us through the nervy process. Great Lawyer and great person. Highly recommend.

Stuart is very good at what he does and very knowledgeable. Everything he did was done in a timely manner and was on top of everything. Gave me very in depth instructions of what I needed to do and bring in to the office. Does not set unrealistic expectations. Would definately recommend for any type of Immigration legal matter.

For those who want to know, I was inspected at JFK Airport in New York City 20 years ago. When I finally decided to apply for my green card, I knew I needed the help of a lawyer because immigration laws and paper filings can be a daunting and stressful experience for most of us. I initially consulted with a couple of lawyers who had been practising for over 15 years, but they were hesitant and reluctant about taking my case. Desperate, I went to ailawyer.org and picked Mr. Gilgannon out of a huge list solely based on satisfactory Avvo Reviews that quite a few people were willing to write. During our free consultation, Mr. Gilgannon was understanding, straightforward, willing and ready to handle my case above all. With good organization skills, he laid out clear steps to help us confidently navigate through the nerve-racking immigration maze. Thank you again, Mr. Gilgannon for doing such a wonderful job!! For anybody out there looking for a reliable, honest, hard-working and trustworthy lawyer, do yourself a favor and hire Mr. Stuart Gilgannon. You will not regret it!

I retained Mr. Gilgannon's services for immigration in EB-2 National Interest Waiver category. For readers who may not be very familiar with immigration law, this is one of the more difficult employment-based categories to apply in, and it requires an extensive amount of paperwork. Mr. Gilgannon made the whole process very easy for me to understand and gave me the confidence boosts when needed while going through it. I always followed his advice and the result speaks for itself louder than any words - now I enjoy the freedom of a permanent resident status. Mr. Gilgannon made a highly favorable impression on me during our initial consultation (which was free, but nevertheless lasted for 1.5 hours), both professionally and as a person. It was very important to me to find an immigration attorney who was honest and who would actually care about my case, not look at it as just another one in a pipeline. I have never had a reason to regret my decision to hire him. As an example, he would always return my phone calls within a day and promptly respond to all of my e-mails (sometimes even on weekends!). He was straightforward about the possible weak points in my case and warned me about the risks of denied petition before I hired him. In my opinion, his fee is very reasonable for the quality of legal service that he provides. I will not hesitate to recommend him to any of my friends for legal advice in immigration. I sincerely wish him much success in current and future cases and to all prospective immigrants - good luck your petitions.

I can't thank Stuart enough for all he has done. Going into my application for my H1B visa, I was nervous. I had heard lots of horror stories about percentages, and how it was just luck if your application was approved. Stuart's contacts details were given to me through a friend of a friend and he immediately made me feel comfortable. While he didn't sugar coat the process (which for anyone is a time of anxiety), he let me know the facts and what we needed to do in order to get our desired outcome. His past experiences with people in the same profession as myself also eased my concerns. I am also extremely happy with how smooth our whole process was, even though Stuart is in Wisconsin and I am in Louisiana. At the end of the day, my application was approved and I can't thank Stuart enough for being part of it!

I cannot recommend Adam Tutaj highly enough. He is, hands-down, an excellent attorney. From the moment I started working with Adam, it was apparent he had a genuine interest in the well-being of my business. Adam provided much-needed reassurance as a new business owner facing a messy legal landscape, and his plan and suggestions quickly put me at ease. Beyond his empathetic nature, Adam is highly knowledgeable and skilled in business and healthcare law. The thorough advice and guidance he provided every step of the way is immeasurable. Adam anticipated potential issues and provided effective solutions that protected my business interests. He was responsive and communicative, keeping me informed of the status of my legal matters and answering any questions I had along the way. Thank you, Adam, for all that you do!

An honest, professional, and transparent law firm you can trust. I came here after another firm delivered some very questionable estate planning documents to me, among poor treatment and customer service. This firm had corrected every mistake and closed every hole the other firm left behind. Stafford really saved my butt here. Truly thankful. Such a kind team as well.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Milwaukee, Wisconsin?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
