Pros
1
Effective in court and able to advocate strongly for the client's interests
“Hired Meghan because I was told she was a pitbull and I knew my now ex-husband was going to be difficult. 3 years later and a year after divorce ex continues to to take me court and because of good counsel loses.”
2
Thorough and detailed in preparation, with a strong memory and ability to retrieve important information quickly
“She has a very good memory, she can pull any file out at the drop of a hat, she prints every email, notes every important point and was able to express those to the judge right away.”
3
Willing to fight for the client's rights and ensure they receive a fair outcome
“Meghan fought for what I deserved. Was available to me in my most trying moments and she backed me up and took my feelings into consideration.”
Cons
1
Can be unprepared and disrespectful towards opposing counsel at times
“Huge mistake. She often came into court ill-prepared and even became disrespectful to the opposing attorney at times.”
2
Does not always communicate effectively with clients or respond in a timely manner
“I was very disappointed in my case. I never had an in person meeting with Ms. Healy, everything was done through mail, email or phone. Not very good at returning calls, very slow in getting results.”
3
Potential bias towards the party that can afford representation
“If you can avoid this lawyer, do it at all cost. The court recommended her as my sons GAL. 2 years later my son is still going to be fighting to spend time with his brothers and me. If she is recommended ask for someone else immediately. I wasn't represented because I couldn't afford it. She would ask me for information and turn around and say she did all this investigating but actually did no work.”

Meghan fought for what I deserved. Was available to me in my most trying moments and she backed me up and took my feelings into consideration. I was very lost and alone with my kids to think about. I will never forget how much she helped me.

Several times, my attourney who used to be a GAL has even said she had no clue what attourney Healy was thinking. The whole thing seemed very bias, and not what was best for the kids.

If you can avoid this lawyer, do it at all cost. The court recommended her as my sons GAL. 2 years later my son is still going to be fighting to spend time with his brothers and me. If she is recommended ask for someone else immediately. I thought it was ok at first. She seemed like she was listening. After a while I noticed all her meetings and phone calls were always made to my ex and his lawyer first. I wasn't represented because I couldn't afford it. She would ask me for information and turn around and say she did all this investigating but actually did no work. I made recommendations for my son and she turned around and claimed them for herself in court. She was completely unprofessional in court if she showed up at all. She will make you feel like she cares about the things you're saying but in reality if you don't have a lawyer she is biased and WILL SIDE with the party that does. Her billing is outrageous. She offered my ex a payment plan and took me to court for contempt once again because I have no lawyer. She told me in one of our very few meetings that our case with others was neglected because she was off having a baby and that's why we hadn't heard from her. My sons about to be 3 and the one thing she's supposed to be doing is looking out for his best interest. All she cares about is filling her pockets. I can't believe how fast she went from nice and caring to vindictive just because I didn't agree with everything she said. She twists words and only hears certain things and then will call you a liar. I have to continue to keep fighting for my child now. I wanted all this to be over for him but now it has to continue so he has a fair shot with his brothers. So sad that this lawyer couldn't stop thinking about herself.

I hired Meghan after I was recommended to the firm by a former client of her fathers. I interviewed many local attorneys and she was the most equipped to deal with a narcissistic ex who continues to be a hinderance even a year after the divorce is final. She has a very good memory, she can pull any file out at the drop of a hat, she prints every email, notes every important point and was able to express those to the judge right away. She can only be as prepared as the information that was given to her.

Hired Meghan because I was told she was a pitbull and I knew my now ex-husband was going to be difficult. 3 years later and a year after divorce ex continues to to take me court and because of good counsel loses. Although Meghan's fees are rather high the saying "you get what you pay for" fits here. I of course wanted to come away with a big Bonanza financially which didn't happen l was awarded what the state allows and Meghan had to go to bat to make that happen. Things did drag out at times when I thought fee's we're getting out if hand and I addressed that and adjustments were made. Last time in court when again the ex lost he was ordered to pay a portion of my attorney fees. Karma!!

My review cannot possibly do justice describing my experience with Bill Hammett as my divorce attorney. Bill’s ethics, knowledge, experience, intelligence, and quick-thinking ability are simply unmatched. With his long-standing and impeccable career, Bill is highly respected in the community and the kind of professional you want representing you in Court. From his peers to his clients, the verdict is unanimous. He is brilliant! Bill is a gift to the legal community in the Valley and a life saver for those who find themselves amid a difficult divorce. Bill showed the utmost compassion, dedication, and commitment to my case throughout my very challenging divorce process. He worked long and hard to obtain the best outcome for me. His attention to detail and good judgment paid off!! I feel so incredibly grateful for what Bill (and his outstanding, superb staff) did in my case. Hiring Bill Hammett as my attorney was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

Brandt was absolutely incredible; we used him for both our criminal and family situations. He truly cared about our family's needs. He was honest & communicative. I did consult with other attorneys, & many others said Brandt was the best in the field. He worked so hard on our cases & got us the results we wanted. I would highly recommend him to any friend or family member.

Brandt was referred to me by my Dad's attorney, for a paternity action and accusations involving CPS. The accusations were weak at best. Yet serious in nature. I received an excellent outcome in both situations. Brandt is an outstanding attorney. He knows the law. He sincerely cares about his client's, and the outcomes they receive. Brandt aggressively represented me and my rights. He is the epitome of professionalism. He has excellent communication skills, both in court, and with his client. Brandt is detailed and prepared. I am very pleased with Brandt's representation. If I could give him more than 5 stars, I would. I strongly recommend Brandt for any family law need.

Brandt represented me twice in a series of cases brought against me by a local municipality. We got an acquittal in the first felony case and are poised to get an acquittal on the latest one. Brandt is willing to stand up to the governmental apparatus that tried to personally and professionally destroy me. He was easy to communicate with and responsive. If you need an attorney who will fight for you, choose Brandt.

We worked with Stacie for our wills and estate plan. She was very knowledgeable, patient, and easy to work with. Answered our questions in a way that made us understand but did not talk down to us. I recommend Stacie for your estate planning needs.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Neenah, Wisconsin?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
