Nightmare divorce. Lee promptly put out fires and kept a ruthless opposing attorney tamed throughout the process. He kept my stress at a tolerable level as well.

I have had Lee for an attorney for 20+ years. I have never met a more kind and understanding man. He has helped my family many times over the years but the one that stays with me is my divorce. My divorce was amicable, but non the less very hard on me. I left the courthouse in tears. Lee followed up by finding me at my folks house afterwards. He told me that he was there for me for whatever the future held for me legally and more importantly if I just needed to talk things through in the healing process. He not only takes care of people with legal problems, he actually cares about the individual person. I highly recommend Lee and his team. They are incredible people!

When I was looking for an attorney to handle my divorce, I asked my friends for their recommendation. A number of them advised me to talk with Mr. Fehr. When I called and scheduled the first appointment with Mr. Fehr I was feeling very uncertain, scared and I was definitely not looking forward to working with an attorney, or the process of getting a divorce!! After the first visit with Mr. Fehr, I left his office and felt that he truly cared about my case. He explained the process, what to expect and how he could help me. Fast forward to the completion of the divorce process. I definitely made the right decision to have Mr. Fehr guide me through it!! He gained my complete trust as he helped me make important decisions. He guided me through the court process, explained what would happen and stated honestly what he thought the outcome would be. After each court hearing it went just like he said it would— a good outcome each time! Mr. Fehr kept me updated on all the issues and was always available if I needed an appointment or phone call. His paralegals are awesome! They are very competent, friendly and easy to work with. Mr. Fehr is kind, caring, understanding, knowledgeable, and truly will work his hardest to be the best attorney and get the best outcome possible for his clients. I do not want to think how this process would have turned out or how I would of coped if I had not chosen Mr. Fehr as my attorney. On his web site it states that he will help his clients through the bad times so we can enjoy the good times and that is really true!! I have been blessed to have Mr. Fehr as my attorney. You will be too!

Mr Geraldson was appointed by the State of Wisconsin to represent our son on several charges fabricated against him by a former girlfriend. We had concerns about State appointed attorneys because of past experience where they did not work out but with Mr Geraldson things were definitely different. Mr Geraldson was extremely knowledgeable and alert to every detail of both the laws and the evidence and when he put his skills to work the Jury came back in just a short period of time with a NOT GUILTY plea. If you are in need of an attorney I would highly recommend giving Mr Geraldson call.

Chris has represented me on two seperate occasions, once for OWI 4 and another for a felony battery. While the felony seemed like a slam dunk self defense, he still dug deep for facts in the event that the DA pushed the case. In the OWI case, Chris was compassionate and understanding. He didn't sugar coat the possible outcomes, in the end I received 30 days with an ankle bracelet. The reason I chose Chris in the first place was because of his comments on this page, I enjoyed the fact that he is an attorney not a lawyer in a popularity contest.

I can't say enough about Chris. He successfully defended me against two felonies and two misdemeanors in a two day jury trial. He never missed a beat and totally humiliated the prosecution and her witnesses while keeping a professional demeanor at all times. He was excellent in his communications with me and understood the ins and outs of the legal system and how to exploit it to my benefit. Thanks a million Chris. You rule!!!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Onalaska, Wisconsin?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
