I was in a divorce case evolving into a more complex divorce case over time as more n more came out that was happening in my marriage behind my back, even when I anticipted a kosher/easy divorce than I had foreseen when I filed. I went to a well know atty that then began to put me on the defensive as his client, I had to prove to this 1st atty that I was not who my atty & ex, & ex’s atty was making me out to be. He seemed to be siding w my ex after a few months rather than giving me full support…it was “just take this, u already are getting enough and who cares that ur husband has had a girlfriend.”. Obviously onto atty #2, this was a flat fee for service….bad idea, it became “forget this and that, let’s just get done and finalized” but I felt strongly on issues I personally had and wanted to address in my case and that need attention by my atty and representation to fight for me. Both lawyers #1 & #2 were afraid of my ex’s lawyer and wanted to look “good” for her, who is/was the President of The Law/Bar Association of WI. So I began to search for atty # 3, which can sometimes look poor in the eyes of some judges (& atty’s), but I needed 100% support for me and my kids, a strong atty and one that help focus on and address my issues I cared about….. that were almost pushed to the way side by my 1st two atty’s. Plus, when calling around for my 3rd atty, I had to find one that was not afraid of my ex’s atty. Atty Philip Trampe’s team assured me he is the one to go w in Racine Co….he was originally referred to me by a Waukesha/Milwaukee co atty and swore that Trampe (represented Racine Co.) will side w me and also be open n honest enough to tell me what truly is fair during negotiations, and since it was a high emotion divorce, atty Trampe was able to me focused if I got off track or reeled me back in if my emotions flared up. I Highly recommend professional atty Philip trampe and his team! Thank you!

I retained Attorney Trampe because I wanted someone who could guide me through the divorce process and get results in my case, and he did not disappoint. He was very patient with me and did an excellent job of keeping my case on track and explaining things to me that I didn't understand. I especially appreciated that he and his team kept after my ex to sign paperwork and keep the process moving along. Overall, I was very satisfied with his service and would highly recommend him to anyone who is looking for a great divorce attorney.

I hired Phil in my 2022 Racine County divorce and subsequent 2023 motions. I originally hired Phil after interviewing many other attorneys because of Phil’s ability to explain the process so that I understood the ramifications of each action/decision path. He listens to my needs and represents me in court authentically. Phil has pushed the court to address topics timely, so that my issues do not linger open unnecessarily. With his representation, I have requested and received fair judgment on my divorce decree, and motions regarding child support, variable expense payments, as well as substantial asset recovery. I highly recommend Phil Trampe.

Attorney Trampe is an extremely professional and dedicated attorney. From the initial consultation through the duration of the custody case, I felt Attorney Trampe truly listened to the facts and understood the difficult custody situation I found myself in. Attorney Trampe was superb in his explanations of the process and next steps. Although not a perfect legal outcome, the results were the best I could hope for considering the legal system and situation. Attorney Trampe was amazing making sure that the proper legal protections going forward were in place to prevent or at least provide actionable grounds in the event of future harassment and/or inappropriate behavior not beneficial to the well being of my child from the mother. I would highly recommend Attorney Trampe to any parent who is trying their best to ensure their child has the most healthy environment despite a contentious and toxic "co-parent". If future custody issues arise, I will definitely be seeking out Attorney Trampe's services.

My divorce was long, drawn out and complicated prior to hiring Attorney Amber Ragonese. She gets things done! Her knowledge of family court and the law is unmatched. Anytime I had a question, I was given every scenario so I could make the best decision for my future. She pushed me towards a resolution, not another disagreement. Which I feel is so crucial during a divorce. It’s so easy to get distracted by all of your emotions during a time like this. Amber is an excellent listener and her calm demeanor kept me very grounded and focused. She was always organized and prepared from something as simple as emails and phone calls to more complicated in person court appearances and zoom court calls. Most importantly, I was able to settle my case without going to trial. Which saved me so much stress! I highly recommend Amber and truly trust that anyone who hires her, will feel the same.

Amber was a great help to our family. She advocated for us every step of the way, remained professional throughout, and was very knowledgable. She was always quick to respond with communication and kept me in the loop every step of the way. I have had other lawyers in the past for this matter, but Amber was by far the best. I am glad that we worked with her, as she went above and beyond for us and we came out with a good outcome. Thank you, so much!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Racine, Wisconsin?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
