A recent car accident, not our fault other than us being there, left me hurt & it was very expensive. Our car was "totaled" & I had serious medical issues. Jessica Tlusty helped us through this stressful & unpleasant experience with her legal expertise & with total respect. We definitely recommend Jessica of the Tlusty, Kennedy & Glascock Law Firm.

a minute agoNEW My child was in an car accident and heard about Jessica from a friend. Everything she told me about her was what I needed to hear to make the move to hire her for the case. Jessica and her team did a great job and handle everything. Knowing that I was in good hands made me feel less overwhelmed. Thank you, Jessica for all your hard work!

Atty Jess Tlusty does a wonderful job of cutting right to the heart of the matter and getting you what you deserve. And the firm is so community oriented - they donated to our Community Corner Clubhouse/North Central Health Care Evening of Jazz event, in support of those with mental illness. They also are very generous with the local schools and non-profits to help out where they can to make our community a better place! Thank you so much Tlusty, Kennedy & Dirks SC!

I was in a car accident that was not my fault, my car was totaled out, my neck was sore, and I didn’t know what to do next. My parents said to call Tlusty & Kennedy and that they would help me figure things out. I called and talked to Jessica, she assured me not to worry and that they would help me get everything taken care of. From my doctor bills, to my insurance, to the other guys' insurance agents, etc., Jessica was incredible at helping me navigate the situation. Having an accident is stressful enough, not to mention not knowing how to go about things, but with Jessica I didn’t need to worry about anything. She was great about staying in touch and letting me know the status of my case, and if I had a question, she had a response that same day. I ended up with a very rewarding settlement. I can’t thank Jessica from the Tlusty & Kennedy law firm enough in making a difficult time in my life a lot easier. I highly recommend the Tlusty & Kennedy firm for any accident situation. They really care about you and look out for your best interest.

We were looking for a mediator for our amicable divorce…someone to walk us through the process and the paperwork. From the first conversation we knew Jessica was exactly what we were looking for. She was kind, professional, thorough, and prompt. We knew exactly what to expect appearing pro se. The whole experience was very positive. Highly recommend Jessica!

She is legit incompetent to handle anything of importance. She sent my confidential documents to my X in the middle of our nasty divorce. The letter was to contact her in so many days or she would file a motion to drop me as a client, she sent it directly to My X who of course w/ held the letter. So I lost my Judacare attorney due to her negligence. She had my address, & sent other documents to me. But the one of such importance she sent to my X. Also when I retrieved my documents, she had another clients documents mixed in with mine. Another clients Social security #’s , child custody information, address, phone # etc . Irresponsible to say the least! She never did the work to have child support w/held so my children went w/ out. She is a joke amongst other attorneys, when I found new counsel they laughed & stated she should never be allowed to take anyone’s case. Absolutely incompetent! It’s sad when you are in an abusive situation & desperate & have to rely on Judacare appointed attorney to help you and you end being abused by a so called attorney who is suppose to help you. I almost gave up & went back to that abusive situation because I was so afraid to fight in court without the attorney I lost. Turns out, she did me a favor. With how poorly she handled my case I would hate to see how she would have handled herself in court. My only regret is not turning her in to the bar. She should not be allowed to represent anybody!

Miranda Lezcano is only in it for the money. She refuses to do any work. I emailed her with a question about our court order and I was charged $15 for an email back telling me to figure it out myself. In court she just sits back and let's whatever happens happen. Because of her not only am I in an unfair situation but my child too is in a situation that is unfair.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Schofield, Wisconsin?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
