Mr. Mayer is a very good lawyer. He worked with me as co-counsel when I represented a client in a commercial real estate lawsuit in Sheboygan County. Although initially hired as local counsel, to assist in preparation and filing of documents with the court, he assumed a much larger and more important role as the case proceeded. He soon demonstrated his knowledge of real estate law and of foreclosure proceedings, along with a sharp eye for spotting issues, and a shrewd grasp of litigation strategy. His contribution was tremendous at every stage of the proceeding, from writing motions and briefs, to active participation in the trial. Peter is smart man, and a dependable lawyer. I would not hesitate to work with him again if the opportunity were to arise.

Peter read a land contract for me. He accepted me as a client even though I was in another state (my mom used his services in the past). He was always very prompt to return my email. Peter was very thorough and went into great detail on the property that I purchased. He reviewed numerous documents (easements, county parcel descriptions, etc.) that I would not have thought to review. I am happy that Peter read the land contract for me and looked over the property. It was a big relief that the property and contract were free of problems. I would hire Peter again if I needed similar legal services, and I would give him a favorable recommendation.

We found Gordon and Jayne to be very professional, caring and results-oriented. We were impressed with the knowledge Gordon had about our type of case. He was able to direct us to the medical professionals who were able to help us and most importantly help improve our lives going forward. Gordon did everything necessary to discover all elements of our case. We were impressed with Gordon’s passion and dedication to our case. He had the ability to prove the damages we had sustained in creative ways that both sides could understand. Mr. and Mrs. R.A.

Gordon Johnson was excellent for me, he was very responsive to all my calls and gave me honest answers regardless if it was good or bad. I was referred to Gordon by a friend and I'm so happy that I did because my case was handled perfectly and I felt he cared about me as a person and not just another case.

First, I need to say thank you from the bottom of my heart to Casey and his team for all their hard work on my case. I genuinely believe he’s passionate about all his clients going above and beyond. My case was no different. He was incredible in helping me defend against unbelievable false accusations. The first time I came to his office I was still in shock as to the series of events that led up to the claims and with legitimate fears for my freedom. He took the time to listen to me and with compassion gave me a level of reassurance I needed. I believe with the utmost sincerity that his dedication, hard work, and thoroughness to cover all the bases and explore every possible resource has played an integral part in the outcome of this case. My innocence needed to be brought to light, and you did just that. Masterfully and with professionalism, integrity, intensity, and grace. Thank you for all you've done for my family and I. A++ could not recommend a better criminal defense lawyer in Sheboygan and surrounding areas.

From the very first meeting, Casey was very diligent in learning about my case and finding a solution. Over a 9 month period, he was great about communicating next steps and helping me through the process. Ultimately, my case was entirely dismissed, which is not common for an OWI case. I would highly recommend Casey!

Greg was extremely knowledgeable in bankruptcy law. Anytime I had a question he called me back the same day, even if it was a question he probably got a100 times. He is honest, polite, and friendly. Yes, I did use the word honest something you normally don't hear in the same sentence with attorney/lawyer. :)

As first time going through bankruptcy we were not sure what to expect from the process much less who to trust. Greg explained each step and all fees involved before we even hired him. During the process he was always quick answer our calls and kept us informed all along the way. Never made us feel bad just always there to answer our questions. He even sent us all the necessary info needed for what to do after the bankruptcy was finished. From the beginning he was ethical trustworthy and very competent. I would recommend him to anyone needing legal help!

I had my finances and stuff in a mess from being in an accident. greg helped dicuss with me what the best options would be for me filing bankruptcy and helped explain every step of the way. He worked hard with me to get all of my things sorted out and done right. Did a good job of getting the paperwork filed on time. Since dealing with him with the bankruptcy. If I have any questions or small requests for paperwork. He is always happy to help me with what is needed. Very great job.

  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Sheboygan, Wisconsin?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
