It has been 3 years since Jeffrey Wolfert took my case, and I am Happy to Report that my case has come to a close. It's was a real bumpy ride, however Mr. Wolfert and his staff stood by me and gave me the support and attention my case needed. Mr. Wolfert was able to secure a substantial settlement on my behalf, I wanted a Compromise and Release settlement and that he got for me, with my up front Medical Set Aside, along with the annual payout for Medical Services, I will NEVER have to go through the Insurance Company EVER to receive the ongoing care I will need for the rest of my life. As far as Workers Comp goes, I feel that I have been made whole. Mr. Wolfert put a lot of time and attention in my case, he is worth his weight in GOLD. Not Only is he a Great attorney, He is a Great Person. Mr. Wolfert is a personable and kind individual and is Always On Top of his Game. The Workers Comp System is so broken and in favor of the Insurance Companies at the moment, I urge anyone who is in a workers comp case to get proactive in contacting their representatives to effect change in the current laws that are stacked up against the injured worker and in favor of the Insurance Companies. Every Voice Counts. I highly recommend Jeffrey Wolfert, Esq. for anyone who finds themselves in the Black Hole of the CA Workers Comp System

Mr. Wolfert handled a Worker’s Compensation death claim for our family. From the first time we contacted Mr. Wolfert, he was very informative and provided basic information as to the claim. After initially working with the lawyers for the company, we determined to hire Mr. Wolfert to represent our interests. His expertise and judgment were invaluable. He kept in contact through each aspect of the case, was responsive to any inquiry we had, and handled everything in a very professional, competent and caring manner. Mr. Wolfert kept contact with the Court and opposing attorneys to move this case quickly, which was especially remarkable given the fact that the pandemic delayed many court matters. The case was scheduled for a telephone trial in July of 2020, and with the comprehensive briefing provided by Mr. Wolfert, the case settled the morning of trial, after discussion among the attorneys and the Judge, for an amount that was more than we anticipated and had been offered by opposing Counsel in any pretrial settlement discussions. I cannot state enough the extent of the valuable service that was provided by Mr. Wolfert. It is without hesitation that I would recommend hiring him.

I had my first consultation with Mr Wolfert, back in 2013. I have since, been a client of his, I am very happy with my decision to hire him, he is experienced and very humane, considerate and he explains everything in a way that you can understand. Every time I call or email, I always get an answer, in a timely manner. Jessica Cornejo, paralegal, has always been there to help and answer any questions or doubts that I may have, along with all or any other person that might answer the phone. They are all very helpful and professional Thank you all for your continued help Laura

My asylum case was granted today. I don't think it would've been possible without Attorney Sam's help. I have had previous experiences with other attorneys. But the calm, the confidence, the level of organization this man have is unbeatable. He was able to pick up case after I was referred to court, and win it easily. I would highly recommend him for all of your immigration purposes.

Pradeek is efficient, effective, and accessible. He was very thorough and quick to reply (we had a lot of questions). We felt very supported and well-guided throughout the application process - and even after the case approval when we had a few more questions. Pradeek is excellent at his job, he is compassionate, thoughtful, and knows well what he is doing. I would recommend him without hesitation. (In fact, I've already recommended him to a few friends!)

I contacted Cassidy Toles to first consult and take my case in a legal matter that honestly had me up at night for weeks. He broke it down for me, giving me the reasons why it was happening the way it was, potential outcomes, the course of action to take, and that while he was willing to take the case, he strongly recommended another lawyer that he "would call upon himself" if he got into trouble. The other lawyer was great, the matter resolved itself exactly as Cassidy felt it would (while still hedging as nothing is guaranteed) and any future legal issue, he's my first contact and the first I'd recommend others to talk to if it's in his sphere.

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Berkeley, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
