Just as I was dealing with a very difficult situation, I got lucky and came across Ms. Jayne who listened and advised with patience and kindness. My case got different turns during a period of one year but Ms. Jayne's professionalism and timeliness kept it from taking the unwanted direction and eventually we achieved the desired result. I wish her further success in her work and undoubtedly- I highly recommend her!

My case was resolved in less than half an hour after my first meeting with Atty Julia. Yes, unbelievable! She worked like lightning aggressive and fast! I was feeling hopeless when I searched for criminal defense lawyers in my area. Upon reading the comments, my intuition told me she's the right one. She emailed me right away and we're really prompt in responding to my inquiries. At that time I've felt like she was sent to defend me (I prayed for the right one). She's honest, straightforward, witty, sharp. After talking to her, I insisted on having a consultation, I really needed to see her coz I knew in my heart she would hear me, and fought for me. Who am I anyway, a victim of heartless people, migrated from a foreign country and only had my mom and 2 little kids. I cried my heart out while telling my story and the facts of my case. Julia has a big heart. She comforted me. I've felt her sincerity. She enlightened me about the procedure in the US and that she didn't see anything to worry about. 20 minutes after I left her office, I received numerous calls! From her! She said, Come back I will returnyour money. I said why?"The case is closed! I've spoke with .." I wasoverwhelmed with so much emotions- grateful,,vindicated, exhausted, I criedand prayed like I havenever done before. Thank you Lord for sending me this person. Thank you Atty Julia. I am forever grateful. When I came back, hugged her so tight. She saved me, my kids, my family. So my rating? Above and beyond!

Julia is a great lawyer, and has the skills and personality you want to represent you and negotiate on your behalf. My case involved a settled outcome that satisfied the prosecutor, and she was just brilliant at that. She is very responsive and gave me good advice early in my case, of course. But after the initial stage, she really went into overdrive, and recognized that she had an opportunity with this prosecutor to get my case dismissed. She knew an expert who did an effective evaluation and used another expert also in an artful way. She was correct that this would satisfy the prosecutor, and made it happen. She's one of those rare high-EQ people that works so well with persons, but who uses the rapport she builds to get a good outcome. She had a great strategy, and inspired a lot of confidence. I would hire her for any lawyer work, but also for any negotiation, which I think requires even more skill and talent.

I had a situation where I needed to hire an Attorney so I asked a longtime friend of mine (who is also an Attorney) to refer me to someone that specializes what I need. He highly referred Julia Jayne - telling me "she is sharp and everyone speaks very highly of her". After my initial call, I was convinced she was the right person. Aside from being smart and savvy, she is very down to earth, straight forward and has the unique ability to simplify complicated things into laymen's terms. Within minutes of retaining her she was fast at work and within less than a month, she resolved everything! What I loved about Julia is that she always answers the phone and responds to emails and calls in real time. Anyone can tell she is super busy and high in demand but yet she takes her time to explain everything and to answer all questions to make the client comfortable. She is also thorough in everything she does and her follow up skills are amazing! In addition to her services I feel as though I received at least two college credits in law from everything that she was able to teach me. I would highly recommend her and would use her again if I ever need an attorney!

My asylum case was granted today. I don't think it would've been possible without Attorney Sam's help. I have had previous experiences with other attorneys. But the calm, the confidence, the level of organization this man have is unbeatable. He was able to pick up case after I was referred to court, and win it easily. I would highly recommend him for all of your immigration purposes.

Pradeek is efficient, effective, and accessible. He was very thorough and quick to reply (we had a lot of questions). We felt very supported and well-guided throughout the application process - and even after the case approval when we had a few more questions. Pradeek is excellent at his job, he is compassionate, thoughtful, and knows well what he is doing. I would recommend him without hesitation. (In fact, I've already recommended him to a few friends!)

I contacted Cassidy Toles to first consult and take my case in a legal matter that honestly had me up at night for weeks. He broke it down for me, giving me the reasons why it was happening the way it was, potential outcomes, the course of action to take, and that while he was willing to take the case, he strongly recommended another lawyer that he "would call upon himself" if he got into trouble. The other lawyer was great, the matter resolved itself exactly as Cassidy felt it would (while still hedging as nothing is guaranteed) and any future legal issue, he's my first contact and the first I'd recommend others to talk to if it's in his sphere.

Cassady was very thorough and knowledgeable in providing counsel toward the issues and questions I had in my SBA EIDL loan. I would recommend working with him as you can tell he cares and has your best interest in mind to help achieve whatever result you are looking for.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Berkeley, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
