Terrible law firm. I contacted them about a case that involved the wrongful death of my mom. After taking all the information and acting like they cared, I never heard back from them. I called multiple times and sent several emails asking to at least let me know if they were not willing to take my case. They did NOT. No sympathy, no courtesy. What a shame! They should be embarrassed to be treating potential clients like that. FIND ANOTHER LAW FIRM.

Raul Vargas helped me look for an attorney, he was so wonderful! He's very knowledgeable awesome personality. I really appreciated how he truly cared about helping me, I didn't feel like just "another" caller being transferred around carelessly. In my experience, dealing with the LACBA's Smartlaw referral service was a complete waste of time -- and *especially* in legal situations, time is a critical resource. LACBA really needs to decrease their email response times. And they really don't screen/taxonomize those attorneys thoroughly at all, so I was frequently referred to lawyers whose actual specialties didn't match what I need. On top of that, some of the attorneys displayed extremely unprofessional behavior -- including spending the majority of my referral appointment rambling about their personal lives (!!!), and failing to attend meetings I've scheduled with them followed by completely ghosting me. I only contacted four attorneys through that service, but literally half of those attorneys were flagrantly unprofessional. After those four attorneys failed to help, Smartlaw wrote, "Unfortunately, we don’t have any other member attorneys who are accepting referrals in the area of law that you are requesting." You mean to tell me that in all of LA, Ventura, Orange, and San Bernardino counties -- an area with a population of eight-figure millions -- Smartlaw doesn't have any additional employment plaintiff's attorneys? I'm sorry, but that strains credibility. And if it's actually true, then it doesn't speak well for the quality of their reach/services -- services that, in my experience, are already lackluster to begin with (to put it charitably). Save yourself precious time and find a better referral service (in my case, I plan on trying CELA instead). You can't afford to squander your time on these clowns.

Had the 1st initial consultation w attorney Drew Sherman of the Mark GOMEZ Law firm. Drew was on the internet during our consultation and verified earlier case went from 1999 to October 2023, Case# 19STCV02403, and was dismissed “without prejudice.” Drew noted during our consultation that the earlier case was during the Corona pandemic, explaining why case continued so long. I asked Drew: with the case being dismissed “without prejudice” can case be filed again without there being any statute of limitations problem, and he replied “yes, we can file the case again.” So I passed a $15,000 retainer fee, and paid an additional $2,715. Now, after passing $17,715 into their GOMEZ Law firm possession, attorney Drew saying there is a statute of limitation problem and so they’re dismissing the case and terminating representation. Wow! A simple statute of limitation question. Why did attorney Drew lie at the initial consultation and say they can file the new lawsuit knowing the earlier one went from 1999 to October 2023, and being “dismissed without prejudice,” and saying at the beginning at the initial consultation that there isn’t a statute of limitation problem. Attorney Drew Sherman, and Mark GOMEZ Law firm, so hungry and scandalous for profits that they will lie and deceive vulnerable persons to lock-in a retainer fee and income for themselves, knowing that they shouldn’t even be proceeding with a case in the first place because of a simple statute of limitation problem. Simple illegal Bait & Switch scheme. I’ll file with the State Bar to see if I can get a complete refund of my $17,715 monies from them, and I’ll update this posting as the State Bar complaint proceeds.
