Nightmare Divorce: Unfair Billing and Negligence Leave Me in Financial Ruin I thought hiring this firm would make my divorce easier, but it turned into a financial nightmare. With just two homes and no children involved, I started with a $7,500 retainer. However, I ended up owing the firm a whopping $50,000. All I requested was temporary support, spousal support, and to keep my cat. But instead, I had to give up one of the homes due to excessive charges for every email and phone call, even if they couldn't reach me. To make matters worse, the firm neglected to include temporary support ($10,000) in the final settlement. They shifted the blame to me, claiming I overlooked the paperwork, even though I had signed those papers with my own attorney, who should have been responsible for ensuring the terms were correct. And let's not forget about my cat. Despite being my separate property with my name solely on the adoption papers, the firm couldn't even win custody. Yet they still billed me $4,000 just for discussing it. Thinking my ordeal was finally over, I received my checks from the firm with the assurance of no more bills. But to my dismay, they sent me an unexpected $400 bill and deducted it from my trust account without my permission. Enough is enough. I have decided to take action against Holstrom, Block & Parke, APLC. I will be filing a complaint with The State Bar of California for attorney misconduct. They must be held accountable for their negligence and financial exploitation. Don't let others fall victim to this firm's questionable practices. Beware and stay far away.

Had HB&P represent me in a custody case. It took them a year and over $55k to do nothing. Actually I ended up in a worse position in the end. We went to court twice, once with no resolve and a continuance. The other time my lawyer didn't even open her mouth to bring forth our evidence, which we discussed in the hall prior to entering the courtroom. I tried appealing to the managing partner, expressing my dissatisfaction, the insane monthly billings with no results. He was less than cordial with no explanation for the extreme cost and firms lack of accomplishment. To add insult to injury, the opposing lawyer and client violated CA bar standards, blatantly I might add. Long version to skinny..... don't hire this firm unless you have endless money to give them for zero results.

I hired them to assist me with child custody dispute. The communication was excellent. I have since cancelled and they have yet to send me my refund. I have emailed them twice now enquire about my refund and crickets.

I was skeptical in the beginning but felt like a phone call was in order. From initial contact with the firm I felt assured my case would be handled correctly. I was directed to Carrie Block and I am so glad I was. The family court system can be mean, unfair, and extremely challenging at times but having the correct representation in your corner can make all the difference. Carrie is a rockstar and her experience shines through when she works. We have been working together for about 8mths now but the communication from the team (Courtney/Carrie) keeps my mind at ease that I have the best in my corner helping me fight. Carrie Block has been an amazing attorney. As a member of the LGBTQA+ community, it was vital for me to locate a Certified Family Law Specialist that simply understood. Although it is more common today, I had a unique custody and visitation matter that Carrie was equipped to handle. John Denny may be a "Super Lawyer", but he is not accurate with his wording on court documents and billing practices. I was sued and this firm was hired to represent the person suing me. John misrepresented me on a form by stating, "my contact was met with a refusal to communicate". I did not refuse to communicate, I did refuse to enter into mediation with him in regards to a legal matter. Upon being served with a bill from the law firm I discovered that my discussion was double billed. ( I am retracting my double billing statement, the other billing was with the client on the same day). A 1 minute, exactly 60 seconds, call was billed at 2/10th's of an hour though. The description on the invoice noted, "telephone conference with opposing party re mediation". So we did communicate. My advice to clients and opposing parties, double check your bills. That 1 minute call was billed at 2/10th's of an hour as well. 1 minute seems to equal 12 minutes in lawyer time. Other than that, my encounter with him was wonderful. I'm still only giving 1 star though.
