On approximately May 15, 2022, I took my Jeep Gladiator to SJ Denham, the Jeep dealership closest to my home, located in Redding, California. At this time, the Jeep was insured by me through Mercury Insurance Company. Unfortunately, while the Jeep was at SJ Denham over night, it was stolen by an unknown third party. After SJ Denhams denial of responsibility I filed a claim with my insurance company, the path of least resistance, as Denham was betting I would. Mercury initially paid me only half of my Jeep’s stock value because of an incompetent broker. I was forced to retain an attorney, Griffith J. Tonkin, Esq., of the Arthofer & Tonkin Law Offices. Mr. Tonkin represented me in my claim against Mercury Insurance Company and ultimately helped me secure the remaining stock value in compensation. Which was still significantly below the value of the Jeep as modified. On April 6, 2023, I was advised by the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Department that my Jeep Gladiator had been found abandoned at the Sacramento International Airport. The Sheriff asked me if I still had keys and if yes to come get it. I did and my Jeep came home. The thieves had only put 1000 miles on it and did very little damage to interior parts while disabling the GPS. Apparently they needed to catch an important flight. The airport was unable to provide video or photographic evidence. Mercury said they wanted my Modified Jeep for the full stock value they paid or they would report it stolen. In essence they wanted my modified Jeep for the stock price. Idiots. At the present time, Mr. Tonkin has negotiated a highly unusual agreement to reimburse Mercury Insurance the amount paid to me and in exchange I would have my minor damage claims handled and receive CLEAR title. Clear Title and not a salvaged title was a big win on top of getting my Jeep back with easily fixed damage. I am very pleased with Mr. Tonkins professional integrity and always prompt responses to my inquiries. If I ever have another insurance nightmare I will call Mr. Tonkin first. P.S. Your vehicle is not protected over night at SJ Denham. They have drive by security which is worthless, no video cameras and do not even have a locked gate to put your vehicle behind. Then when your vehicle is stolen they claim to be the victim of the same crime as you. Except it cost them nothing. They complain about the rise in crime in Redding then do nothing ordinary to guard against it.
