I don't think I could write my review any better than already has been done prior to my case. I'll say this much. In each of the reviews each and every one of you all expressed how Michael made you feel. His attention to details and how direct he speaks as your representative of law. Of course, just a brilliant attorney! That's all I got. Good evening.

I’ve known Michael now for 10 years and was impressed with his attention to detail and the way he knows the law better than most while knowing when to strike and when to wait for the bait. Michael is by far the best litigator I have met and that is why I hired him and to see the other side continually dig themselves out of holes Michael put them in and he continued to do this until they simply couldn’t or didn’t have a way to remedy their case or side. The law works in favor of those that do the right thing and stick to what is in writing and what is on a contract. Michael worked extremely hard on my case and countless hours were out in while putting together all the pieces and creating a story from a timeline that he created using a method that made sense. This story in fact, kept getting better and better the more we dug around. Michael is a brilliant attorney and because of him I won my case and my confidence back. Highly recommend. I have contacted many attorneys who do not care to put the effort into the case. No matter what we were up against, Michael Patrick Rooney put his all into our case. In the end we lost due to a bad judge who got fired over this decision, but would call Michael Patrick Rooney again and recommend him to our loved ones. This guy is amazing.

I've used several of the lawyers and law firms in San Francisco who are considered the best which unfortunately from my experience never turned out to be the best at all. I believe in order to locate the best this can only be done through word of mouth, so I am here to share with you that Mike Rooney is an, " EXCELLENT," lawyer. He's a tiger who will go the extra mile. I must say he is also a Lawyer who loves a challenge and as much as the challenge he very much enjoys the journey when your at war with the opposition. Although no lawyer enjoys a client coming to them in the 11th hour and most will even shy away and tell you that there's just not enough time here. In my opinion those are Lazy lawyers who are looking for the easy case. If Mike Rooney feels you have a good case from my experience he'll take the case even while its on the wire. I am happy to recommend him and will use him again and again.

I met Michael when my negotiations with my bank went south and they sold my loan to another bank, lost my files then started legal proceedings against me. After meeting him, within 48 hours he filed court papers to stop the new bank from moving forward and uncovered several unconscionable acts which violated my consumer rights. He stopped the bleeding and now is helping me with my options in negotiating with my lender. He Is a stand up guy who does what he says on a timely basis and will fight for the homeowner. I would recommend him to anyone who has issues on the slippery slope with today's mortgage servicing professionals. Michael saved my home which I have 50% equity in from these predators, thank you Michael.

As a scrappy startup, working with David from the early days of our business, we were able to secure multiple deals with major publishing and entertainment entities in Japan which were not only critical contributors to our success but also withstood the rigors of 2 exits. David's solid knowledge of the entertainment industry combined with his Japanese language ability and expertise in dealings with Japan were perfect to support our business.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of San Francisco, California?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
