Saturday, January 7, 2023 To Whom It May Concern: It is a pleasure to write a recommendation for Andrew Meinzer. There are two kinds of lawyers: sharks and dolphins. Sharks will promise you a total win at any cost — the only part of that promise that they are sure to keep is their exorbitant fees. If you win with a shark, you are more likely to face an appeal. Even without an appeal, your social relations with the other party will be destroyed beyond repair. Dolphins know how to keep expenses down while utilizing the least aggressive means to counter the opponent. A shark will tear you to shreds, especially if they smell chum (blood). A dolphin will simply bop the shark on the schnoz and send the shark swimming away. On my behalf, Andrew Meinzer did exactly that. After both our parents’ deaths, my older sister was executor. My parents had offered to transfer executorship to me due to my sister’s alcoholism, but I had declined on the basis that we could work it out as a family. I told my sister of this, but she was not grateful to be informed. Much to her later chagrin. When my mother became too disabled to live alone, my sister had her moved from CA to SC in order to “reduce expenses.” She then hired a lawyer whose self-proclaimed expertise was to break irrevocable wills and trusts. She then proceeded to try to do that in spite of many objections. Finally she tried to hide information about how she was executing the trust from the beneficiaries, which is when she got herself into trouble. But thanks to Meinzer’s deft handling of the situation, she didn’t get into much trouble (other than a bruised ego). Meinzer kept up to date on the week to week machinations, sometimes calling me back late at night to ease my worried mind. He simply reminded her that she could not make changes in the will without the express consent of the other beneficiaries. And that the financial advisor and tax consultant were obligated to provide information to the beneficiaries that she was refusing to provide. She finally had to give up and execute the will as written. Meinzer did this all within the retainer of $5,000. I cannot express how nicely impressed I was with Meinzer’s performance and manner. A memory that would otherwise be traumatic and best forgotten remains in my memory as a victory for justice for myself, my wife, my former wife, and my nieces. My sister has had to dig herself out of a hole while I can speak freely with our other family members. But Meinzer’s intervention was so effective that I have been able to maintain contact with my sister, and she recently sent me items of mine that my mother had saved and she was secreting.
