In 2018, I was told I couldn’t work any longer as a Correctional Officer, because of issues with my heart. My attorney then and now was Paul Ferrone. I expressed to him that I wanted to return to work. After almost a year of Cardiologists I gave in and did a regular service retirement. I retired with 28 years and 2 months. A sad day because my son had joined the department, and I wanted to work with him for at least a couple years. I regularly attended doctor appointments with my cardiologists and received medication to control high blood pressure and A-FIB (An irregular heart beat.) I couldn't run and could not complete a walking treadmill test. Paul Ferrone made sure I had this doctor out of Orange County. This guy wouldn’t let it go. He wanted answers as to why I couldn’t complete a walking treadmill test and answers for the medication I was taking. This doctor pursued several tests that the other doctors were not. My last test took him over a year for the State of California to approve. Within a 2 month time frame after this test I would undergo open heart surgery for 3 separate issues affecting my heart. After I could feel the difference in my heart. I didn’t realize how sick I was and I feel I would have been dead within a year. The whole reason I received my surgery is due to the doctor given to me by Paul Ferrone. He wouldn’t let it go and quite frankly neither would Paul Ferrone and his team of attorneys. I remember a call from Ryan Trotter with Ferrone and Ferrone asking me how I was feeling and to take care of myself. Again I didn’t know how sick I was. The attorneys had obviously seen medical reports like mine before and knew I was’t in a good position. Five days before my surgery Paul Ferrone talked with me on the phone. I was afraid (more like terrified) to be honest. He talked to me, tried to put my fears to rest and said at the end of our conversation “God bless you Tony”. I say all of that to say this. To all my brothers and sisters in Law Enforcement, it is easy almost normal to ignore that flutter in your chest or the random pain or pinch. Your high blood pressure is fine as long as I take my pills, we say to ourselves. By the way high blood pressure caused all of my heart problems. If you can’t ignore it and get checked out by your doctor more times than not, a simple E.K.G. will send you on your way with a new bill of health, I had many telling me I was fine. It wasn’t until I contacted Ferrone and Ferrone, they put me in touch with their doctors that just taking a hand full pills and going home or returning to work was not acceptable. It was only their doctor who pursued this. What have you got to lose? Don’t ignore those funny feelings in your chest. If you already have high blood pressure and are being treated by your doctor, so your blood pressure is under control with medication. So was mine. Don’t get help alone, don’t fight this alone. Ferrone and Ferrone and their doctors gave me more years with my children. Without them I am sure I wouldn’t be here to write this. Ferrone and Ferrone did not ask me to write this I just want to give credit where credit is due. Get help my brothers and sisters who wear that badge, with out a lawyer your going to get a band aid or pills to mask the problem not a solution that really addresses your issues.
