I interviewed 15+ local attorneys and finally came across Lyndsay. Immediately, I knew she was it. It’s so daunting to put the fate of your future in the hands of one person but Lyndsay made me feel heard and validated my concerns right away. She was the only attorney to discuss what to expect during the process, which naturally included extended periods of time with little to no contact. The team at Ressler law are attentive and I was always able to reach someone to answer my question or concern. Lyndsay KNOWS the law and how to get her clients positive results. She was poised, passionate and powerful in the court room! Lyndsay knew every key detail to my case and was able to present those details to the judge flawlessly. In addition to her unparalleled knowledge and experience in family law she doesn’t waste her time or yours. Lyndsay is very direct and to the point but has listened to me bawl my eyes out and offered me both empathy and support in those trying moments. This was the longest, most stressful and hardest fight of my life and I can’t imagine trusting anyone else with such a pivotal moment.

I hired Lyndsay in 2016 to represent me in my divorce and now in 2020 when my ex took me to modify custody and child support. She was absolutely amazing and fought for me and my children. I am so thankful to have her as a lawyer!

It’s hard to find a genuine person in the world of Divorce/Family Attorneys. With the money and stress associated with family law, it’s important to hire someone interested in serving the needs of their clients rather racking up billable hours. Lyndsay Ressler truly is that attorney. After doing an initial consultation with Lyndsay in regards to a child support dispute, I felt very confident that Lyndsay was the right attorney for the job. The family court system is very subjective and tough to navigate. Lyndsay handled my case like the expert in the field that she is. In the end, you should pick an attorney that can get you results. Lyndsay presented the merits of my case, worked out a suitable settlement, and ultimately got the results I needed. And she did so, without charging an exorbitant rate. I was very please with my experience with Lyndsay and her team at Ressler Law and I would highly recommend her to anyone in need of a great attorney.

Lyndsay took me on as a client last year to work through a litany of parenting plan issues and modifications. Put simply, Lindsay and her extended team knocked it out of the park. Lyndsay's team walked me through a difficult and and very contentious motion and ended up getting me the outcomes that I was looking to achieve. Lyndsay and her team are thorough, detail oriented, professional, and passionate in their representation of their clients. I will gladly continue to work with Lyndsay and her team. If I could give Ressler Law ten stars I would. Simply an exceptional practice.

I have been having child support and custody issues for approximately 4 years. Ms. Ressler took on my case then proceeded to quickly and efficiently solve the custody and child support issues. She is very direct and keeps cost down while at the same time caring about her clients needs and fighting for their best interest. Everything was outstanding from the initial consultation through the court room performance. I would highly recommend Ms. Ressler to anyone in need of legal representation.

This place is really nice, especially as you walk in. Very professional atmosphere. They offered coffee and placed us in a large private board room. We have been working with one of the lawyers, Alex, who is great! The paralegals we have dealt with are great also.

I was in a difficult situation and had no idea what to do after my car accident. This law practice was recommended to me by a friend, and I'm so glad I chose it. The lawyers truly gave me a sense of support by taking the time to go over everything with me. They seemed to sincerely care about my well-being and kept me informed at every turn. I appreciate all of their efforts and how my case turned out!

Joanna was our representative from our fiancé visa application and continued through our marriage and green card process. She was very knowledgeable about the process, the steps to take, and took great care and detail filling out the application. Furthermore, her review was essential to make sure no details were missed. She was a great resource and made us feel confident that all our details were perfect. I have recommended and would easily recommend Joanna in the future to any friends or family that desire to start their visa journey.

Joanna came as a strong recommendation from my SVP to replace a well-known Chicago based attorney group that had been sitting on my immigration case for years. She was so thorough, discovered that I was a great candidate for multiple visa types given my entrepreneurial background and, when I decided to leave my then employer, she was so professional in advising me of my options and safeguarding my interests just as well as she did those of my old company. I then retained her for my case and decided to self petition directly for the EB1A, a bold but scary move as I did not want to function at the mercies of my employers anymore. Even though she knew that my case was not fool proof, she took me on and helped craft an incredibly strong case. The most important quality she presented through this work was being consistent and knowing just the right things to say when I got tired, frustrated and discouraged as I was looking for hyper-specific evidence that some organizations would not release to me. And unlike other attorney groups that would judge and self-select text book cases, she knew my desperation, advised me accordingly and when I made my decisions -- still put forth her best effort to make sure my case was solid. I continue to use her now that my EB1A I-140 is approved, and plan to continue to use her for all my immigration needs until I have citizenship. She is such a keeper and her work ethic/dedication to me and my case remains unbelievable!!

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of Colorado Springs, Colorado?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
