I had an unfortunate accident while at work. My employer had told me that they would take care of all of my bills regarding the accident. After about a week, I start receiving calls with regards to information needed to bill my employer. I began to reach out to obtain the information from my employer, at which time they began ignoring my calls. I reached out the Attorney Goodstein and with in 48 hours of that initial call he began getting things in motion. He was always available and worked not only to get all my medical bills paid but also got me a settlement more that I expected. Attorney Goodstein was always personable and prioritized me and my case. To speak even more to his professionalism, my whole case he and I only ever spoke via phone or email because it was convenient for me! I would recommend Attorney Goodstein to anyone in need of an attorney for a workers compensation claim. Thank you Greg

The previous post on here was unfortunately made by my mother. I want to sincerely apologize to Atty Goodstein about what was written about him. I can't speak to why my mother would say the things she has but I can speak to my experiences. Greg is a kind and caring guy. He is welcoming and caring especially after what was a traumatic accident for my family and I. Whenever I reach out to him I receive a call, email or text within the same day. Never more than 24 hours. If I ever have a question I can reach out. Its very easy to post bad reviews these days. It's not fair to do it on things that are not true. I will gladly recommend Greg to anyone that needs assistance just as my mother has said she has done previously.

I had hired attorney Gregory Goodstein to represent me with two traffic issues in Norwich and he was amazing and because of that I recommend him to my daughter for a traffic case that took place in June of 2018 I had also hired him for a similar case before relocating to Georgia, and neither of us can seems to locate attorney Goodstein, as to the statuses of our cases, he’s not returning our calls, he’s just been ignoring and avoiding us, I’m so disappointed in this man for his lack of professionalism and regard for other people feeling. What’s upset me the most is, I’m aquatinted with a few well established law firms in the Hartford areas that I could have taken our cases but instead I hired him. Know I have to consult with them on how to move forward...........

I was in an unforgettable car accident on Christmas Eve of 2016, and was so shook up I was hesitant to go through the process of hiring a personal injury lawyer. I am so thankful everyone convinced me it was something I needed to do, my fully paid off car was totaled and the other driver was completely at fault. Greg Goodstein made this process very comfortable. He is a genuine and straightforward attorney who walked me through every step of the process. He assured me of all my options, and didn’t pressure me into any choices I had to make throughout the case. I am very pleased with the outcome; Greg is clearly an extremely talented and knowledgeable attorney. I would refer him to anyone needing representation in a personal injury case. Thank you so much for your hard work!

Divorce is never an easy part of life to balance. Started off without a lawyer and having my back pinned against the wall. Attorney Nath came highly recommended. They were not wrong! All it took was a couple of minutes to brief Attorney Nath on what was going on. The weight that was lifted was just night and day of a difference! You know, the honesty from the start and the facts that I did not know about this process is what was delivered first class. Ultimately winning my case! The fight from day one until the very last day of court even when the battle was weary was extremely difficult, but Attorney Nath made sure every doubt or question I had was answered. I am so glad I was able to put my trust and livelihood in the hands of someone that heard me and understood what to do without asking any questions. This level of personal care is what makes the difference.

Mr. McCormick was very thorough and explained things. He made me feel very comfortable during a rather stressful time in my life. I was totally impressed. He handled the remote meetings great. I'm pretty sure I was the first client during the Covid-19. I was very relaxed speaking to him. He was professional yet down to earth. I would recommend Christoper McCormick to anyone in need for a Bankruptcy issue or any other legal issue that he handles.

  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of West Hartford, Connecticut?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
