This office seems to give priority to the contentious (and therefore more profitable) cases. Routine divorces, where the parties are getting along, are left on the back burner. We were put off several times and ended up waiting several months for what should have been routine documents.

Sandi took on my chaotic, highly contested case 5 years in. She asked clear concise questions about what goals were most important to me, and the outcome I was hoping for. With that in mind she was able to sort through the five years of ongoing litigation, and strategically re-focus case to where my goals could be achieved. Her on going advice and attention to not only my case, but also my feelings around it, have helped me re-shape my actions, and thinking around the case to the point where my goals are bearing tangable fruit. Her care for the welfare of both my children and me, her organizational skills, her receptive, personable, avid, purposeful, and strategic mind and personality, have been invaluable. She has gone above and beyond.

I hired Sandi Girolamo to take over a very difficult and lengthy divorce settlement. She was incredibly thorough in making sure I received the best outcomes for me and my children. She approached everything with sound advice. Sandi listened to my personal situation while guiding me in the right direction through this emotional time. There was never a detail missed when we needed to appear in court. She is a strong, capable attorney who seems to be well respected in the community.

My name is raef and this guy is really good at winning cases. Someone stole my sisters cape which she can't function without, so he sued Oliver Casey for 1,000 dollars for stealing her cape. When she got her cape back, me and her started jumping for joy. I can't believe she found her cape.

Where to begin, because I didn't when I got arrested and falsely charged with a dui. I called a couple other lawyers and firms and didn't have any good feelings about who I talked to, felt like they just wanted my money. Tamar gave me excellent advise and made me have no worries proceeding forward with her representation. We went to several hearings with the outcome still wanting to charge me with my crimes, but Tamar took no for an answer she knew something wasn't right with how everything went down that night for me. After a few months and a couple hearings later my case we dropped and only a small fine was acquitted towards me, she saved my future this is something that could of greatly affected me and ruined my life in many ways. I'm very grateful for Tamar's efforts, professionalism, and kindness I highly recommend using her in any situation you may have.

I hired her to help with a situation with my sister. I sent her the information she needed and she let me know her cost. She was very honest and said she would try to get it resolved as quickly as possible and she did. I would recommend her and I will certainly use her service again if need be.

I was referred to Tamar by my custody lawyer Anthony Solomine for a unjustified dui pullover. From the moment I consulted with Tamar I knew she was on her game and the lawyer for me. The night after I hired her she contacted me and had already been in touch with the PD and DMV for my case. She went above and beyond what I expected from any lawyer on a case like this. She was very thorough and always prepared. Getting me sentenced to the least possible charges with this case. I plan on keeping Anthony and her as my lawyers and already have referred her to several people. One of which I know has chose to use her and is also very happy with how she is handling his case so far.

Justin and his entire team (Julia, Jorden, and Hannah) are all fantastic. I trusted them with the review of my commercial lease as well as setting up the structure of my medical office. Throughout the process they were extremely professional and answered any and all questions I had. As someone who had never done this before, I am extremely happy with how helpful and knowledgeable they were with the process. I would work with them again without hesitation.

Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. Who will be handling my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  4. What is your approach to resolving cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. What potential outcomes can I expect?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.

Can a Lawyer Represent Me in Courts Outside of West Hartford, Connecticut?

Whether a lawyer can represent you in courts outside of your city or state depends on their licensure and the jurisdiction of the court:

  • Within the Same State:
Lawyers licensed in a particular state can typically practice anywhere within that state, including all cities and counties. They can represent you in both state and federal courts located in that state.
  • Outside of Their Licensed State:
If your case is in a different state, the lawyer must be licensed in that state to represent you. However, there are exceptions:
    • Pro Hac Vice Admission: An out-of-state lawyer can request special permission to represent a client in a specific case in another state. This requires filing a motion with the court and often working in conjunction with a local attorney.
    • Federal Courts: If your case is in federal court, a lawyer licensed in any state may be able to represent you, provided they are admitted to practice in that particular federal court.
  • International Representation:
For cases outside the United States, different rules apply, and the lawyer may need to comply with the foreign country's legal requirements or collaborate with local counsel.

It's important to discuss your specific situation with the lawyer to determine if they can represent you in the desired jurisdiction and what steps may be necessary to do so.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  • Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing. Most state bar websites have an online directory for this purpose.
  • Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case. Review their website, professional profiles, and case history.
  • Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association's records.
  • Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, Google, or Yelp to gauge client satisfaction and experiences.
  • Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field and adherence to high ethical standards.
  • Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation in the legal community.
  • Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  • Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients who can speak to their abilities and professionalism.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  • Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as:
    • Contracts or agreements
    • Correspondence (emails, letters, texts)
    • Legal notices or court papers
    • Financial records (if applicable)
    • Evidence (photos, videos, receipts)
  • Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and parties involved. This helps the lawyer quickly understand the context.
  • List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, fees, or the lawyer's experience.
  • Financial Information:
If your case involves financial matters, bring relevant documents like pay stubs, tax returns, bank statements, or invoices.
  • Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case, including their names and contact information.
  • Personal Identification:
Bring a valid photo ID for verification purposes.
  • Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points discussed.
  • Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations so the lawyer can provide appropriate guidance on fees and payment options.
  • Openness and Honesty:
Be prepared to discuss your case candidly. Full disclosure allows the lawyer to give accurate advice and anticipate potential challenges.
