Michelle and Kathleen helped us update our living will and worked attentively, and patiently, with us to ensure that all of our questions and concerns were addressed within our legal document. We had a lot of back and forth conversation in which they were incredibly helpful in allowing us to fully understand the legal ramifications of each choice we were making with the structuring of our will. At the same time, they are incredibly professional and I would highly recommend them to anyone.

Mr. Quinn and his staff were wonderful. He helped me get my driver's license reinstated as quickly as possible in addition to making the process as painless as possible. His support staff always returned my calls or e-mails in a timely manner. I'd recommend Mr. Quinn to any one seeking reinstatement of their Illinois driving privileges.

This is the ONLY public defender that I have ever seen that got up and told a judge that the judge had no jurisdiction, and basically could not do to me what he was doing. Most other lawyers (especially public defenders) would not have the guts to tell a judge that, and would not care about what happened to their clients either way. My experience with this attorney was brief and I was not looking at serious time, but she did her job very well, beat my case for me, and seemed like a genuinely nice person.

Kathleen was my attorney in my case, knowing that my case was a challenge I had to find a good attorney to represent me, and also trust, she give me the best knowledge of how she would work in my case explain to me patiently and did exactly how she told me. She was very profesional and organize, she speaks Spanish and I love that because sometimes I was able to express myself better if I couldn’t find the word in English. Like that she was very positive and knew exactly what she had to do. She did an awesome job and I am very glad I work with her she is kind and understanding and the results on my case were successful. Thank you so much for everything Kathe!

She is a very professional and knowledgeable attorney that took the time to look into the case and was able to provide me with the most recent updates in the immigration law as to what it would happen if the case is filed with insufficient documentation. I consulted with other attorneys prior to consulting with Mrs. Martinez and I was told I was not able to file the case and that I needed to waith until the law changes.

Mr Tinker helped me out a few years ago with a patent and a couple trademarks. easy, no sweat, right? I'm certain many others would have helped me with my "easy, no sweat" filing, but Mr Tinker did more than that. He called me up and explained a concern he had with some language in my filing that he felt didn't protect my interests as well as he felt it should. I was confident that my wording was superior and protected me from any infringements. He very politely explained how my branding had an application in an area that I had not thought of and won me over. As he stated (paraphrasing, of course), "the chances you will end up needing this additional protective language is remote, but it won't even take me ten minutes. So why don't I just do it anyway?" Well now three years later, I’ve expanded my branding and launched into the area he identified and others. Had he not cared enough to critically think about all possibilities, I would be filing expensive updates every year or so. But he took care of me and his original work stands unchanged and undefeated (I had an infringement and I won, no sweat). I came to this site to find him now to help me with another trademark, but have learned that he went in-house for a major international company. Makes sence, he is of that caliber

I was already doing my AOS with another lawyer, my case was supposed to be a simple one and easy as it can be, not such a thing, when you hire a careless attorney, as I did. My File was full of mistakes and the last straw for me, was this other attorney's advised, I was so horrified, that I decided to get a second opinion within days of my SECOND interview, I went to Emily and in less than 30 minutes of our consultation, she already knew the mess that I was in to it. I hired her immediately, She made me feel secured, about been well represented and she spoke Spanish!! to be honest my anxiety levels calm down. Her staff was very, prompt and attentive as well, organizing and getting everything ready for my interview. She pays attention and listen carefully to details and question any possible problem, she explained to me the process I was about to go through, in less than a week she open up, from her busy time, some space for me, in a 911 representation basically, without even having my complete file, she was a able to provide and organized everything that it was requested., Lawyers are supposed to be quiet and just to listen during the interview but no Ms Love, she was smart, quick and know her craft. If it wasn't for Emily, I don't know what will be the result of my situation today! I can't find the right words to express my appreciation for her legal knowledge, dedication and attention to details and Im happy to say, that the very same day I received a notification from USCIS and within 2 weeks I have my card in my hands.

I have worked with Counsellor Das for three years in his capacity as lead patent lawyer for a company for which I am general counsel and a co-founder. Counsellor Das has written very sophisticated patents describing my company's new and state of the art technologies. He has been very successful in obtaining relatively quick US Patent and Trademark Office approvals of his applications. His professional ethical standards are very high and he is a very hard working lawyer who is responsive to a client's needs. I recommend him highly.

We hired Heidi to be our real estate attorney. Her services were appreciated and very thorough. She was very knowledgeable and meticulous in her review of our real estate negotiations. Her proactive and efficient feedback with us and the sellers ensured the closing process would not be elongated by unnecessary disputes. We appreciated her expertise in reviewing all aspects of the transaction, including serving as our advocate for negotiations regarding the date of possession. We enjoyed working with Heidi and look forward to using her services again in the future. We highly recommend her as an attorney.

Once in awhile you can find a gem of an attorney like this woman. She is a scholar, competent and also compassionate - at least that is my overall impression. I am so glad to have her on my side because I can see what a difference a goodd lawyer makes and I want that edge in temrs of procedure, graciousness in court and a professional I believe in - call it a "gut feel". She is about 4 or 5 times smarter than any male lawyer I've seen or considered

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
