He is a public defender and his only advice is take the offer. I wanted to go to trial, he informed me then that I will be going to prison because he has never won a case when he took it to trial. Now he is telling me if I go to trial I’m gonna get the max that it carries for going against them and wasting everyones time and money.

Mr. Whitacre was very helpful in resolving my criminal case. He listened to my story and was able to find inconsistencies with the officers report. We eventually went to trial and a not guilty verdict was reached. His fees were very reasonable and I couldn't be more pleased with the outcome of the case.

Would not recommend. In my case he did a poor job. Tried to make both sides happy. If an attorney takes money from you he should represent you 100%. Of course he is New to the field and does not need to piss of anyone. Not happy with is legal representation.

When the US economy began to have problems in October 2009, one of the largest mortgage banking companies in the United States raised our monthly fixed rate mortgage by $400 for no apparent reason. I had already taken a pay cut at work and the increase caused major financial problems. After writing everyone from the US President, to the Head of the US Banking System, to the Comptroller of the Currency and the CEO of the bank requesting loan modification, we got absolutely no help or hope. We were being daily harassed and threatened with foreclosure even though we had never missed a single payment at the original monthly mortgage rate. The mortgage company made lofty promises but did absolutely nothing it had agreed to… accept to give us grief and pain. God directed us to Frank Coxwell and Frank was able to quickly close the mouth of the lion – preserving our home - through the only avenue left to us, a Chapter 13 Reorganization Bankruptcy. Frank skillfully maneuvered through our financial situation, working within our very small budget, dealing firmly with creditors, and enabled us to receive all the legal rights and benefits that citizens of the State of Mississippi are entitled to. Frank Coxwell represented us successfully in court and completed all the necessary paperwork and forms. When we were thrown 2 extra nasty curves that threatened to wallop us, Frank did not quit and in addition he helped us win our point and legally overcome those adversities. If you are facing bankruptcy, harassment from creditors, or if your mortgage company is a man-eating predator, do yourself a big favor and call Attorney Frank H. Coxwell, Jackson, Mississippi. Sincerely, M&D Mississippi

Dear Buddy, How does one begin to say all that one feels about what we’ve all been through these last few years. Clearly there is nothing one can say but thanks. A lot goes into that word as it is relayed from me to you. Real friends, those who accept you as you are and share the low tines, are hard to come upon. I have found you to be one of those rare individuals I can call my friend. To me, this watch is an expression of something that occurs every day, the passage of time. Every day we all take this event of time and use it in many ways. I never appreciated time in the past as I do now. Your efforts have allowed me more time. My promise to you is that I will be a good steward of this time and use it wisely. Knowing you, I don’t imagine you will think too much of this event in years to come. You were doing what you were sworn to do – representing your client to the best of your ability – within the boundaries of the law. I hope this symbol of time will represent our friendship. Something that occurs every day even though we might not pay attention to it that closely on a day to day basis. Thanks for those hours of time I know you labored, both professionally and personally. There is no amount of expression I can offer to truly relay my feelings of appreciation. I can offer my friendship over the years to come. You will always have my friendship. If you ever need help I’ll be there for you as you have been there for me. Your friend, Mike

He is an attorney I would run from. In a trial divorce I lost everything and i mean everything. My husband was a drug and alcohol addict. He abandon me when I was without income due to an illness. He was also seeing someone. I found viagra. I had all the evidence of proof and witnesses. Husband had not one shred of evidence and no witnesses. Husband couldn't even speak clearly during court was told to speak clear, speak up and to sit down. Tucker told me I had nothing to worry about with all my evidence and besides getting him for drugs and alcohol abuse we would even go for abandonment. The day of court Tucker told me to sign a paper stating I was divorcing on Irreconcilable differences. I did not want to sign it but Tucker said and I quote "You have to sign this to be heard today and the judge will decide the divorce grounds. I should not have trusted him but a review said he was honest. so I signed. I am a woman with a child and awarded all the family pets and I was given 30 days to get out off the home. Had no time to look and get a loan. We were almost homeless but thanks to the good LORD that didn't happen. Tucker told me nothing about filing a motion which had to be filed within 10 days of judges decision to award me more time to look and purchase a home. It wasn't even enough time to hire a mover they were booking 30 days in advance at that time of year. I had alot of furniture prior to marriage I had to move myself which about killed me. so much to do in such a short time and received not one red cent on a home I helped pay for and remodeled.. Tucker didn't even tell me that I could file an appeal which has to filed within 30 days of the judges decision. THIS IS YOUR WARNING RUN AS FAST AS YOU CAN FROM TUCKER YOUR BETTER OFF REPRESENTING YOURSELF THAN USING HIM AS AN ATTORNEY. HE WILL NOT FIGHT FOR YOU. DOES NOT CARE. FABRICATES WHAT HE IS GOING TO DO FOR YOU AND HOW YOU STAND. WILL NOT CALL YOU BACK.. Seen other attorneys afterwards and they couldn't believe I signed those papers when I was filing for drug and alcohol and with the court report that I shown them of my divorce court. I was suckered by my atty and with all my evidence I should have walk away with at least 75%.

Mr. Tucker is among the most professional and ethical Attorneys I have ever known. He has been my and my family's Attorney since he began practice and I was actually among one of his first clients. He has handled many various cases for me and my family over the years and has always done an excellent job. You can be assured no matter the case Mr. Tucker will handle it with zeal, expertise, and when needed aggression and all within the most professional and ethical bounds. I would trust him with mine or my family's life. When you are a client of his you are his number one concern! A rare jewel among Attorneys. God Speed to you Daniel and to your family. -Deborah

Mr. Mansour has a well balanced approach and will listen to the client's needs. His fee for retainer is a little higher than the norm in the area but not by much. His reputation is solid and worth every penny extra. Do not let that be an issue when choosing an attorney for your case. Phil's fee structure beyond the retainer is rather nebulous and inexact, but he was fair to me in the end everything concerned. He works especially well with clients who also present creative solutions, but he certainly is not afraid to interject his own opinion at any point in the conversation. I was not privy to most (if any) of his background communication with the opposing lawyer, but I think he corrected some things the less experienced opposition brought up along the way...much to my benefit but also realistic and fair to the other side. In short, I was very happy with the way my case finally turned out. Very fair to both parties, and he was highly respectful to the other side and their capabilities in all conversations with me. I Highly recommend Phil

My son had a trust that Mars and Mars oversaw for about 18 years. We had countless issues with this law firm, especially when dealing with Charlene. When withdrawing a portion of his trust, $12,000 was lost in the mail bc they neglected to put tracking on it. When I called to ask what steps needed to be taken, Charlene was extremely defensive and her attitude was so unprofessional. I refused to speak to her again. Still waiting on a call from Daniel to resolve this issue. I wouldn’t recommend this law firm to anyone.

Gibbs Travis PLLC attorney, Shunda Baldwin, provided me with expert legal guidance and direction following my vehicle accident. Working with her was a privilege. Her professionalism and through follow up allowed me to focus on my wellbeing while she ensured my insurance claim and settlement were addressed. The most pertinent aspect of her approach to practicing law is she is responsive and communicative. I never had to call her multiple times or wait weeks for a return call. She made time to ensure I felt my small case was important and I will always be grateful for the opportunity to work with her. But no more accidents for me, I’ve reached my lifetime limit.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
