Mr. Jenkins really helped me a lot on my case and skillfully helped prevent my conviction. This is a really big deal because I was told by every attorney I talked to to plead guilty and take the DAs offer but he believed in me and fought for my rights.

I would highly recommend William Wessler as your attorney. He is kind and very helpful. Did step by step procedures. Explained everything in terms I could understand. Will also be thankful I found him as my attorney. I googled best bankruptcy lawyer in Gulfport and his name came up. Again, I would highly recommend him. If I know of anyone that needs a great attorney, I would definitely send them to him.

Joel has handled several personal cases and many business cases for me. It's nice to be able to turn to just one person you can count on instead of having to look for someone new for each different case. He and his staff are very nice and easy to talk to. He's handled my real estate closings, property damage from renters, owner finance transactions, business contracts and more!

She listens to you and pays attention to every detail. When Karen takes your case she goes above and beyond the call of duty. I have never put in a call that I did not get a call back and I always got great service. I have done business with this attorney for more than 10 years. I always will call Karen when I need legal help.

I have the pleasure of working with Megan after looking and looking for a attorney to take my daughter disability case. I can't tell you how much I appreciate the amazing legal work she has done on my daughter's behalf. She has always prioritized her as a client and did everything in her power to help us. I am so grateful for her passion, dedication, and professionalism. I've hired lawyers before, but she is truly the best I've ever worked with. I don't want to leave out Nikki one of the legal assistance with the firm. Nikki is truly one of a kind, such a sweet spirited person. She has really help this process go smooth and I truly appreciate her as well. I would give this firm 10 stars if I could and would definitely recommend to anyone. If you're looking for a knowledgeable, passionate, caring, informative firm this would be the smartest route to go

Teri is very knowledgeable about the law and rights of the non-custodial parent. Unmarried custody and visitation case where parents did not get along. She went over and beyond the call of duty and ended up reaching a settlement out of court with other party involved. Our best interest as well as the child's was taken into consideration. Spending time with my child makes it all worth while not to mention both of us as parents now get along for our child's best interest.

Nick served as the point of contact counsel with an out-of-state client. He was always there as a resource to communicate with and helped share the client's needs and goals. He was attentive and appreciative of my counsel, and helped the clients reach a resolution on the matter that was appropriate. Nick stayed in communication and was always willing to help. It was a pleasure working with him.

I requested an adjusted in my work schedule because of my veterans disability. Instead my employer demoted me from full-time to part-time. Nick negotiated a really nice settlement for back pay and future pay and I got to leave that company. He pushed for me and got it done quickly. His staff is very professional and kept me informed on the case status. I talked to the paralegal more than Nick, but she was very knowledgeable and patient in answering my questions. I was very impressed with Nick's representation of me, and I would recommend him to anyone else needing representation in this area.

I was referred to Stephen after being in my first car accident where I was injured. He was personable and walked me through the entire process. Not only is he quick to respond to any questions or concerns but he follows through with very detailed progress. He had alternative solutions and everything! The situation ended up taking longer than expected but I remained stress free knowing that Stephen would handle it all. He comes highly recommended and others that I have referred to him have also had great experiences. Do yourself a favor and consult him. You will not be sorry.

I contacted Mr. Welch a while back about a charge against me. I was speaking to him directly almost immediately. His knowledge of the inner workings of the criminal justice system made me feel comfortable in an otherwise difficult situation. He has always answered my calls, questions and concerns immediately. I had negative thoughts about what a defense attorney would be like, but Mr. Welch was patient, kind and professional in every interaction we have had. He has treated me like a family member and I aprreciate that to no end. I have and would continue to recommend him to anyone with a criminal justice problem!!

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
