April worked with an organization I am closely involved with that assists families. She is extremely professional and genuinely cares about her clients. It is rare to see an attorney that is as aggressive but caring at the same time. I highly recommend hiring April for your family. She will take care of you!

I was facing 31 years and the judge outright said at one point that there was sufficient evidence to convict me. Ms. Getz was able to locate hidden evidence that ultimately exonerated me at trial.

I was hoping to find an attorney to help me in a hit and run wreck in Nashville. I called two law firms, they turned me down. Next day, I gingerly filled out a survey on Facebook, thinking to myself, this is probably a dead end too. The very next day, Ivan Lopez called me! He asked me about specifics of what happened, my medical treatments since that fateful day. The out of pocket costs, therein. He exclaimed, "You have a case! I will help you!" I couldn't believe it! Next few weeks I brought him the paperwork he needed to pursue the case. He took care of the rest. Within a month, my check was on its way! Ivan Lopez came through on his promise, when I had given up any hope of pursuing this. I will be forever grateful to him, and his wonderful assistant! Do not hesitate to call him! He's working for your best interests!

He fought VERY hard and VERY efficiently on my case. He was recommended to me by a former client after Hughes & Coleman said "NO" to my case. Philip Kendrick fought tooth & nail till my case was complete. He makes it very easy for me to understand and also kept me informed as to what was to come in the future. I would recommend him to ANYONE who has a Social Security case either Pending, has been denied, needs guidance or needs to file.

I hired Megan Zarling to help me with a few family law issues--including an order of protection--in Davidson County (Nashville), and she was outstanding. First and foremost, Megan was committed and dedicated to my legal cases and was in constant communication with me about them. She responded to my emails and phone calls right away, and always updated me on the status of my cases. Second, Megan is a true "go-getter;" she is a zealous advocate and a discerning evaluator of the law and facts presented before her. She took the time to examine my legal issues and after careful evaluation, explained to me my options and the various strategies we could employ. During court hearings, Megan was well-versed in the facts and the laws of my case and zealously spoke and argued on my behalf before various judges with much success. I also appreciated the fact that she has appeared before many judges in the various Davidson County courts including the Chancery Court, the Circuit Court, and the General Sessions Court. After going through a lengthy and a very hard family law issue, Megan was able to get me a favorable outcome and I am pleased with my result. To end, I'm a lawyer myself, and it takes a lot for me to trust another lawyer to advocate on my behalf. Throughout my legal process, I trusted Megan and felt safe. If you're going through a family law issue like a divorce or a separation, or even an order of protection case (whether you're the Petitioner or the Respondent), I highly recommend you give Megan a call. You won't be disappointed!

John gave me direct honest advice which caused me to not need his services, thus saving money. His advice was sound and calming in the face of being falsely accused and in momentary hot water with FBI, TBI and Local authorities. I took John's and Thomas Jefferson's advice to "If angry, count 10, if very angry 100" and I've counted for a year and a half, enjoying life and not letting those with lesser intellects and values upset my pursuit of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. If things get bad, God, Thomas Jefferson and John Drummond are a winning combination.

My case was a very lengthy and cumbersome. It involved realtors and the TVA. I was sold a home that encroached 20 ft. on a federal easement track. It has not been used for over 40 years and all identifiable markers (i.e. pole, etc.) were gone. When I purchased the home, the easement was not disclosed to me nor a plat provided. It was also not picked up in a title search. I did not purchase title insurance and therefore had no protection from an event such as this. My lawyer worked with me for many years to reach the best outcome possible in this situation. It was complex, expensive and seemed overwhelming at times. She held those accountable to be responsive, was always prepared and new the law. We came to an agreement in mediation rather than go to trial. She saw the case through to the end worked with all parties to bring this case to the best outcome for everyone. Ultimately, she achieved the goal to free my home from encroachment on the easement as it was agreed to move the easement entirely. Not an easy task. She took this on and never let up until it was finished years later. A case that other lawyers could not see through and others who would not take on the level of complexity of the case. I would recommend her without hesitation.

Having my own business, I have had worked with many attorney's, even in Federal court. Jessica is handling my case, and I will tell you I have never had such an advocate who is so knowledgeable, and knows how to apply that knowledge very specifically for the optimal legal result. I researched her and can absolutely understand why she was awarded the University of Tennessee award for Excellence in Civil Advocacy. She is as tenacious as anyone I have worked with, and not only stands her ground for you, but has the legal acumen to back her adversaries down. Her knowledge surpasses any of the top rated attorney's I have used. I only wish she would move to Charlotte, so she could handle all my legal matters!

My husband and I contacted Nicole Uribe after we married to complete an adoption case. It was simple enough to get a consultation, comparable price, and she explained each step in the case. Any additional fee that came up was explained. Nicole is personable and she made sure we knew where we were in our case with time to plan ahead to attend court. Today we finalized our adoption and we could not be happier with whom we chose to champion our case. Thanks Nicole Uribe.

This attorney is amazing! Even though he has certain types of laws his website says he practices in, this attorney can handle anything. He gets personally involved and really cares. I am a single mother with two teenage daughters, and every time I need anything….Jeff can handle it. So don’t pass him up just because his website says he does not handle your type of issue. Talk with him first, and see if he has time to help you. I have had several attorneys in my life, and Jeff is the one I always call back.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
