Not good!!!! Get your own attorney anyway that you can. Especially if you are DISABLED. And/or this is your first mistake. My opinion; this attorney has no interest in your case or you. He will insist you take a plea even if they have documents proving you innocent, then lie to the judge about what he did.... The Sweetwater court system is completely different than anywhere I've lived in this state. No compassion for people with disabilities, definitely not ethical, public defender. Messed up paperwork on the case was the only thing that was consistent. (kangaroo court). Public defender was rude, refused to Cooperate with the guardian. Talked to us like we were complete idiots. I regret ever moving to a place with so little integrity in the city center. Do go with a private attorney! (not from the area) or insist on the head public defender. If it smells rotten it usually is. Rocksprings government will always be what it has always been.

Tended to side with prosecution and not give me much time to communicate with him or his team. Had to threaten to fire him just for a a real conversation. Nevertheless, he can complete a case, which sadly is better than some lawyers.

So in Wyoming the bar for attorneys performance is so low that a JD can literally fall asleep at trial and is still deemed competent. Ryan however did try his best to make sure that he met that bar. He "forgot" to tell me that 90% of the facts-based-on-evidence was thrown out, what the police fabricated was proven fabricated, and said I would go to prison for 10 years if I didn't take a plea deal for 3 months probation. After 5 months in jail with no bail and hearing from him twice this is difficult to refuse. The following week Ryan send me the letters showing that he had things thrown out. My understanding is that he didn't want to go to trial. Still demanded the max a public defender can as payment for the courts, he was a little peeved that I made more in Army medical retirement thanks to a grenade than he made working at his job. My suspicion was confirmed as just a few weeks later he left the Public Defender's Officer with zero notice. He dropped all of his cases and left the state. What a nice guy! Supreme Courts upheld my appeal on the grounds that he very technically performed the bare minimum, although Kirk Morgan and the Supreme Court Justices would say off-the-record this is really on the line as it's clear I was innocent and this was a lazy and ineffective attorney. Ryan, as you blocked my number I'll say we'll talk later. Maybe you'll be a used car salesmen, maybe you'll be at Daddy's firm in Jacksonville, maybe you'll be a public defender in your 5th district in 7 years. But you broke apart my family entirely due to your laziness. God can't do all the work.

I'm appalled at the representation my son received. Had to pay a private attorney to go back through his case. Months later misdemeanor charges are still haunting our entire family. I think this guy is in the wrong occupation. His interest is not in helping the defense and that was very obvious.

I also would never hire her. My case was a simple one, but did she complicate things. She did what she wanted, not what I wanted. Had to make appointment to have simple question answered. Called another attorney and had it answered that day, NO CHARGE. Never in the office, or so I was always told. All I can say is NOPE, call anyone else. Very disappointed. Can't even give one star.

First she never once met with me in person during the divorce. I picked her because she had a Sheridan office that never was. She didn’t fight for me the way I wanted or thought I deserved. After all said and done, I would say she is not the lawyer to advocate for you. And if you have question post divorce about the terms she wrote up in the decree, she won’t answer. Ignores you completely when a simple response to a email is all that is needed.

This sorry excuse for an attorney was appointed as my free lawyer in a divorce. Here are some short details. Husband left me for his co-worker. He was sole bread winner. Everything that I asked for (normal stuff like 50% of everything) Trent told me I probably would not get. I finally gave up asking for anything at all and told Trent that I did not need a lawyer, free or otherwise, to get me nothing. There was no 50/50 split in any way or shape of the phrase. I owned my home so I got that ONLY b/c he did not want the house my Mother gave me b/c it did not have a clear deed. As far as our accumulated belongings of 20+ years, he got everything and furthermore was permitted to sell off anything (including a vehicle) before the divorce was ever settled. When I asked Trent about him selling off OUR property before we even had settled a divorce, she said if I paid the vehicle off, I could have it. Pay it off in FULL with WHAT? When he left me I had nothing but my home that used to be my mothers and a pile of bills. EX-husband controlled all the money. He had the job, the 401K, the vehicles and hauled off a trailer and truck load of OUR belongings the day he told me he wanted a divorce. I recouped nothing. Trent was lousy. I mean she did nothing on my behalf. It looked to me like she was working for my ex-husband and was quite friendly with his attorney as well. To kick all this off, Trent then charged me for the little time she took to go to court and get me nothing. I refuse to pay this. This was a FREE lawyer appointed by legal aid. Trent law office turned me into collections and has done a great job of ruining what little credit I am trying to establish. I would never recommend this attorney to anyone including people I don't care for. I was traumatized by having a cheating husband who moved out with our belongings on Valentines Day and further traumatized by the lack of care or legal representation that I received from Ms. Trent. I ended up having to move from my home to look for work b/c I lived in a small WY town that had NO JOBS When one has been out of the workforce as long as I have, this is not easy. I had to settle for low paying labor jobs and was even homeless for awhile as I rented my house out. My life was ruined and I had to start below ground zero to start over. Trent could have changed that. She could have TRIED to get me what is normal for a wife and husband settlement such as half the 401K. That little bit of money could have helped me but in reference to the 401K, she stated, "Oh, he doesn't have enough in that to bother with." and brushed my inquiry off. To Trent maybe a few thousand dollars is not enough for HER to bother with but since I had no money and no vehicle (thanks to her) that would have made a BIG difference in the course of my life. I would not even give Trent 1 star but this program has to have at least 1 to register a review. She is not worth that.

Becky is highly incompetent. She was easily dominated by the other attorney. She was unprepared and late on pretty much everything she was responsible for. I did most of the leg work on preparing information and research for my case. To the point she even complimented me only for it to be ignored. She was even late on her billing invoices. Eventually it became clear she wanted off my case. These violations are so offending that I am seriously considering filing a complaint to the Bar Association. She argued mute points and often appeared to forget she worked for me. I encourage all of you to find another attorney. This is your life, your children's lives. I would even go so far as to recommend my ex's attorney over Becky. Believe me or not but can you take the chance?

She uses delay tactics on behalf of her clients to stall cases, causing irreparable damage to l involved. She fails to respond in a timely manner to the other attorneys the the cases she represents and makes promises to the magistrates that she does not follow through on (such as filing paperwork when promised). She also for not come prepared to cases with all the information needs to thorough examine witnesses, which would easily be done with simple web searches.

I was a client of Spencer Allred for 20 months. He failed to give me any information about my case, failed to prepare me for my deposition, failed to provide the court with an expert witness on my behalf prior to deadline, failed to communicate with me on every level. He over-billed me and charged an exorbitant retainer fee and did next to nothing to earn it, then left me high and dry with deadlines that he failed to inform me about. I thought it was because of the opposing side that it was taking so long. After the fact I have now been informed by other attorneys it is because of Spencer's actions that it has been drug out and cost me so much money. I called, I emailed, I showed up in person to his office and still received minimal communication from him at best, adding to the stress and worry and pressure of the case.

I hired L. Stern for a Family Law issue and was completely amazed by her lack of interest. She did not represent me the way I had asked in the original consultation and was completely unprepared to go to court, so I felt I had to accept an agreement I wasn't happy with. The first consultation was full of hope and comments like "yes, we can do that" then nothing. She would ask me for information I had already given her in the first consultation so I knew she never even looked at my case after that. I had to pay thousands for her to talk to misc. people and other lawyers in her own office (if she even did) for no purpose. When I asked for copies of emails, notes of phone calls and consultations I had paid thousands for she gave me nothing but the petitions I already had. My first words were "I am not looking for a mediator, but representation" what I got was a expense way of her forwarding emails from the opposing attorney. When she did have an opinion I felt she was representing the opposing client and never stood up for my interests just wanted it to end.

My case was pretty straight but complicated by involvement of another state. Wyoming carried over the allegation from the other state. Klosterman merely negotiated the lie of the allegation from that state. He refused to address my claims in Wyoming with the board of medicine, particularly those added on by Wyoming: I did not offer Wyoming misleading answers in my interview for my medical license. He utterly failed to advocate for me in any meaningful manner. The level of this person's advocacy has damaged me professionally. I have lost prospective positions that would have netted well in the 7-figures in the medical profession due to his errors and lack of advocacy. I would NEVER recommend this person to anyone. I moved to Wyoming, a life-long dream in 2008. Klosterman taught me not to trust lawyers, even those who eagerly accept thousands of dollars for their (pseudo-)representation. In later communication after the fact, I found it very disappointing that Klosterman has no sense of humility, that he may actually NOT be the perfect advocate.

He was hired to clear up paper work on my mother's house after she died. We hired him May 1st, 2017. By the end of July he had still not filed with probate and was purposely sitting on paperwork. When confronted he said we were free to get another lawyer and he might get it done by mid September. We need the settlement to pay for her services and to relieve her debts. He was not pleasant, refused to return phone calls and did not have our best interests in mind. I believe he drags his feet and does not do his job except to charge for time.

If you want an attorney who will work hard at getting you convicted this is your man. As a first time DUII offender with no criminal history this man has been more harmful to my case than representing myself would have been. The gentleman who had sentencing the same time my appearance was set received 1 day jail with 29 suspended for DUII & FAILURE TO REPORT AN ACCIDENT while Mr. Hopkinson struggled to get me sentenced for time served on my three days in jail and some suspense time or probation. Is this discrimination by Mr. Hopkinson and District Attorney Worrall or is he just this incapable of proper representation? He makes little to no effort communicating and as far as I can tell lacks the capability to be considered a real defense attorney. He received one star from me because that was the minimum I was required to give. In short, this man is a disservice at best.

Woodhouse represented a family member "Sue" in a discrimination case where the employer attempted to back pedal a propsal to fire Sue on false allegations by creating a new job for her. The employer was trying to force Sue to accept the job without reading through the description or understanding the role. Sue's lawyer pushed for Sue to sign as well unaware of the job as well. Sue trusted her lawyer and signed, only to find out later that the job entailed the work load of 2 people and included responsibilities similar to that of a janitor. Woodhouse clearly did not look out for what was in the best interest of her client and allowed the employer to strong arm the client into a disadvantaged position, and then she quit as her representative.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
