I have worked with a number of attorneys over the course of my business career. Many of them have been competent and effective. Ms. Manahan is both of those to be sure but she offers something more. Amanda is fiercely protective of her clients. Some attorneys take the position that as long as they win the trial and collect damages on behalf of their clients they have done their job. While that my be true in the strictest sense, lawsuits can take years to litigate. Over the course of that process the client can be brutalized by opposing counsel (this tactic is especially popular with parties without actual defenses to the claims brought against them). These tactics often take the form of hours of harassing deposition questions outside the scope of reasonable inquiry, questions both in deposition and in written discover which are either redundant or designed to embarrass the responding party etc. While the results of these abusive tactics are often excluded at trial the stress and toll that they can take on us clients can be substantial. This is one of the many areas where Ms. Manahan sets herself apart from many other attorneys. For her it is not just an issue of billable hours. She sees it as her duty to shield her clients from this abuse of process. While litigation can be grueling under the best of circumstances, having an attorney who is in touch with the client experience and does not view the end justifying the means is a breath of fresh air. Ms. Manahan was the primary attorney on a case where her team secured what amounts to a $10 million judgement in our favor. I have and will continue to refer friends and associates to her for any business litigation matter they may be facing.

Boyd was diligent on getting me a very good settlement on a difficult case involving a large vacation housing company and their insurance company. It took a very long time for the claim to settle, but Boyd kept us informed and assured us to trust the process. In the end we got a substantial settlement. If you were injured in a complicated circumstance I suggest you call Boyd Johnson!

If you search the internet for an attorney for HOA issues, MBK Chapman shows up on the top of the search....but highly recommend to keep scrolling. We engaged MBK Chapman for two one hour sessions for a consult (total $750). The attorney for Florida did not appear to be very knowledgable about Florida HOA laws and did not have a logical approach. In fact, it was a couple hours of circular discussion. The only conclusion proposed was "hire me on retainer to further investigate"...at $3500. The attorney was incapable of reading a couple paragraphs in an HOA Covenants document and interpret the intent. In a spirit of fairness, I sent a note of dissatisfaction prior to posting this review. The response back implied "lack of information" on our part. Zero acknowledgment that there was a lack of value delivery. To compare, we hired another attorney for a 30 minute consult (the price that would be applied to any future retainer) and within the 30 minutes discussion, the attorney had 1) read all of the pre-read material before the meeting, 2) listened and asked questions, 3) proposed different strategic options and 4) pulled up our HOA covenants and interpreted the critical areas in less than 4 minutes. Wow! Big contrast and value vs MBK Chapman. The other legal firm is...Clear. Concise. Professional. Also, from a cost perspective, the initial consults fees apply as a credit to future retainer.

Divorce in a short term or long term marriage is a very difficult and frightening experience. Unless you have a recommendation, the journey of picking up the phone, sending emails to numerous attorney's office was a challenge in itself . Many unresponsive law offices to my surprise. Castle & Monarch was very professional and responsive on my first call and quickly scheduled an appointment with Danny Monarch. Danny was very professional but very caring and sympathetic to the emotions I was experiencing during our initial meeting and there after. It was an easy decision to move forward with Danny. He was quick to respond to both myself and the opposing attorney. He was clear in his explanations and provided excellent advise and guidance that I desperately needed . He also supported my decisions outside of his recommendations. The case was won in my favor and I have Danny Monarch to thank and his amazing staff at Castle & Monarch. These dealing are never pleasant but finding the right attorney and law affirm are half the battle. I highly recommend Danny Monarch.

Do you really think you would enjoy learning this lesson the hard way? Trust me on this-choosing the right attorney to handle your divorce is no easy task. In my case, a simple divorce which supposed to end fairly fast via a settlement, turned into a 2 year nightmare just for the simple fact of not hiring the right attorney. Fifteen months into the divorce along with lots of $$$ spent and no movement toward the resolution of my case forced me to dismissed my first legal counsel. After numerous phone calls to different law firms I quickly learnt that now I was on my own with no legal representation. The minute they heard who the opposing counsel was, and because they had a reputation for not settling the cases, none was interested in taking over my case. Second time around I did my due diligence, interviewing and researching many attorneys before choosing Castle and Monarch as my divorce attorneys. It was a long and painful experience; without their expertise, professionalism and support, I would've never seen the end of it. I cannot express my appreciation for the Castle and Monarch firm. They immediately scheduled me to come in after a thorough interview over the phone. The minute I walked into their office I was greeted by an amazing man, Mr. Dale Castle, a strong, knowledgeable senior attorney with a heart of gold, who immediately put my mind at ease. That was when I knew and trusted that soon my divorce will be ending. I gladly retained their services the same day. Subsequently, I had the pleasant opportunity to meet Mr. Danny Monarch, who became my legal counsel. Do you want a lawyer who is calm, reliable and composed yet willing to fight to protect your rights during the divorce proceedings?? Danny Monarch has the ability to tailor your case based on your individual needs and achieve the best results. I'll never forget the relief and happiness I felt when it came time to sign the settlement papers that he had meticulously revised and prepared. I am gladly recommending this firm without reservation to anyone in need. Should I ever need a divorce attorney in the future, I wouldn't hesitate to hire Danny Monarch again. I am eternally grateful for the level of professionalism with which my divorce case has been handled by this firm.

Please do your research before hiring this firm. Their latest reviews online are true. I even received a “bully” letter from Mr. Kushner after I informed him I no longer wanted his firm to represent me. The reason I no longer needed MBK’s services is because Mr. Kushner chose to let go of my legal team and left me in the hands of a totally incompetent attorney. I expressed my concerns of the attorney and nothing was to done but to leave me totally exposed. Please do you research on this firm. They may have won cases, but have the attorneys representing show evidence of their success. Do not just take their work. Horrible firm that just billed me over $12k and the representation was beyond poor. They didn’t even care that I took loans to pay for their horrible representation. BTW-they are the ones that took my case because they said I had a strong case!

He and his team are professional and knowledgeable. They made our situation go from a confusing nightmare to a wonderful experience with him and with the court. He fixed our mistakes and made the remainder of the process a breeze over our 3 year relationship. We quite literally could not have done this without him. Thank you Payson!

Questions? We have answers

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
