Dahlia was my attorney in the late eighties while I was going though a horrible divorce. I didn't know it then but I couldn't of asked for a better attorney.. She took my case personally and the end result allowed me to raise my son who later became an Army Soldier. God bless her. Janet

Tabytha Kuykendall processed my claim expeditiously, within two months my benefits where awarded and doing was able to concentrate on my treatment plan. My only regret was not hiring her five years earlier because I was more confused as I venture on the disability maze. I recommend her to All my fellow veterans. I trust her professionalism and guidance that much.

I called this attorney about a traffic violation for my CDL - Even though it was not in an area he could help me with he took 20 minutes out of his day to consult me and advise me in the right direction. I highly recommend this counselor.

Mark Alvarado is the best, most decent human being you will ever meet. It's a bonus that he is also a fantastic attorney. He deals with his clients in a very open and honest way that helped us to be able to relax and know that he was taking care of us. He won our Personal Injury Case despite the dirty tricks the insurance company's attorney used. We were incredibly happy with his services and would recommend him highly.

It is unfortunate to need a personal injury or wrongful death lawyer, but Chris did an awesome job representing me and my family. Chris was very helpful and approachable throughout the entire process. He was punctual when returning my calls and made sure I understood what was going on. I don't believe I could have found anyone better to sand beside us during our hardship.

I was being charged with Felony assault charges. As a federal contracted employee, I wasn't even allowed back into the building with that type of charge, so I was suspended from my job. Yes, I was afraid and unsure of how I would survive without my career. Mr. Fox went out of his way to talk to my big bosses to reasure them that I would be successful in my legal defense, so they preseverd my job. The court process was not quick but Mr. Fox kept clear communication through phone calls and emails. After about 12 months Bruce Fox was able to convince the district jury that I was no criminal and the case was dismissed. I have been able to rebuild my life, and begin the rehiring process for my federal contract position. I am relieved and very thankful for the diligent lawyers and staff at Bruce Fox's office. I recommend his business if you want to preserve your reputation and innocence.

Jack recently represented us in a CPS trial. It was a tricky case that involved another family as well as our own. We were terrified but Jack absolutely came through for us. Neither myself nor my husband had ever been involved in any sort of legal problems before and he was there for us every step of the way. As awful as our situation was, we thought there was no way we would lose our case because we hadn't done anything wrong. After an initial hearing (with another attorney that was friends with Jack and referred us after the first hearing), we realized just how serious our situation was. Apparently civil cases don't need the burden of proof that criminal cases do to convict, and with our children being threatened, well, there just aren't words for what we felt. Jack walked us through the entire process and his knowledge on the topic of family law was intimidating to say the least. I hope that no one ever has to experience what our family experienced but if you do, you could not place your trust in a more deserving individual. He absolutely knows what he is doing. Just to add, I will say that we were initially put off by his office because I think we expected some nice, spacious room with a bunch of furniture that never gets used, plants all over the place, etc., and I think we called him entirely too often because of our inexperience with attorneys but he was never impatient with us and always returned our calls as soon as he was able. Oh, and for anyone familiar with CPS, even though we lost the initial hearing, our case was, for all intents and purposes, over only a month later. Even though we didn't have another hearing for 6 months, we did everything Jack asked us to which showed the Judge that we had nothing to hide. CPS allowed our children home well before the closing date of our case.

Brian was recommended to us by Frank Ikard, another well known fiduciary lawyer in Austin, and we could not have been luckier to have him as our lawyer. He has stood by us through all aspects of our crazy case and believed in our fight to right a huge, huge wrong. This case was very personal and he understood that, fighting even harder because we had our whole hearts involved. Great attorney, great human being. Thank you Brian if you ever read this.

I am extremely grateful for the exceptional legal support I received from Fred Fuchs, a tenant lawyer at Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid (TRLA). Throughout my eviction case and housing issues, Fred went above and beyond to ensure I had the guidance and representation I needed. From the moment I began working with Fred, he demonstrated a remarkable level of professionalism and expertise. He provided clear and concise explanations of the entire legal process, ensuring that I fully understood my rights and responsibilities. His straightforward approach allowed me to make informed decisions regarding my case. Even after our initial case concluded, Fred continued to assist and provide valuable information and advice to help me navigate ongoing legal matters. His dedication and commitment to my well-being were evident, and he genuinely cared about the outcome of my lawsuits. Fred's exceptional knowledge of tenant rights and the intricacies of housing laws in Texas were invaluable to me. His strategic guidance helped me address each challenge with confidence and achieve the best possible outcome. I highly recommend Fred Fuchs the hard-working paralegal/ pre-legal staff and Texas Rio Grande Legal Aid for anyone seeking exceptional legal representation in tenant and housing matters. Their dedication, expertise, and commitment to their clients' well-being truly set them apart.

Frank has helped me out on various civil matters...wills, real estate and trusts. He is very sharp, seeing potential problems and inter-relationships that are very obscure but could become troublesome if not tended to before everyone "signs on the dotted line." As well as being an attorney, he's also a CPA. Highly recommended!

I recently had the pleasure of working with Lisa Thorsen, an experienced M&A attorney who helped me navigate the complexities of an Asset Purchase Agreement as a buyer. I was impressed with Lisa's knowledge, professionalism, and attention to detail throughout the entire process. From the initial consultation to the final signing of the agreement, Lisa was always available to answer my questions and provide guidance. She took the time to explain the legal jargon in a way that was easy for me to understand, which was especially helpful as someone who is not well-versed in legal matters. Lisa's expertise and attention to detail were instrumental in ensuring that the Asset Purchase Agreement was thorough and comprehensive, leaving no stone unturned. Her ability to identify and mitigate potential risks and liabilities was a testament to her extensive experience in M&A transactions. Throughout the process, Lisa demonstrated a high level of professionalism, responsiveness, and dedication to ensuring that my interests were protected. Her commitment to achieving a favorable outcome for me as the buyer was evident in every aspect of her work. I highly recommend Lisa Thorsen to anyone seeking an experienced and knowledgeable M&A attorney. Her expertise, attention to detail, and dedication to her clients make her an invaluable asset to any transaction.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
