Guy Fullan did an excellent job representing me in municipal court. I would highly recommend him to anyone. His prices are fair, he is responsive, kind, intelligent, and knows what he's doing. I could tell he was very well respected by the judges and other attorneys.

She was a great lawyer who represented me in my child support case to the fullest. She took monthly payments and was understanding when I was a little late. I'm a man and she got me joint custody of my son with no child support. What else can you ask from a lawyer? She was prepared and she did a great job! I highly recommend her!

I would not recommend this person as legal representation for anything. As a single mom I needed help in a child support/ custody case where I retained Ms. Reed, who never represented me as an attorney, missed court dates. after informing her months in advance about a court date , contacting her sends me a text message , not even a phone call that she wasn't coming. she was paid a retainer and some of the fee and she never even filed a petition on my behalf. I called about my own court date, went and requested modifications on my own, she did nothing ! i am filing complaint with the bar because I feel so taken advantage of by someone I thought would help.

I consulted and hired this firm to handle my ssi/ssd denial appeal. On the day of my hearing, my "attorney" informed me that we had about a 25% chance of winning and she, Marilyn Macy, was not wanting to actually go before the judge! I asked why the firm accepted a case that was thought to lose with no answer. I requested that we still try this case, as i have waited almost 3 years. I have since waited almost 6 months without any info. I have called the firm several times only to get a voicemail. This is exhausting.

Attorney McAdory came highly recommended from a mutual friend. I had a what I thought to be fairly simple family law matter. Turned out that my custody and child support matter was not as simple. However, she was straightforward in detailing what steps needed to happen in order for me to be successful in my case against my ex. I also appreciated that she worked with me in regards to my growing legal bill. I really appreciated that she continued to update me, even when she was on vacation! You don't find too many attorneys who are willing to take time away from their vacation to speak to a client. But she did. I would hire again for any legal matters! She made me feel important as a client.

We hired Janine Mckinnon on february 15th and fired her friday march 21st. Our current amount billed for services is $2,437 She was hired to file an emergency custody hearing and support modification due to child abandonment. Ahe origianlly stated it would not take more than $1050 to have the hearing within the next week. When no date was ever set we asked for updates and reasons for the delay. Ahe charged over $500 just to attempt tocontact the courts clerk to get a date set. The date is now set for april 1st and ahe now wants double the payment to take us in front of a judge. When told how inefective her service was she removed her self but from the case but not before calling the defendants lawyer so he could change his defence so we would have to hire another attorney. Do not hire the attorney. She is just another part of the problem in the system of protecting a child.

This attorney did not properly represent me, listed are some of the issues I encountered: Did not properly follow up to settlement inquiries, delayed court appearances by not putting a response deadline on filed motions. Did resign 3 times negatively affecting my case greatly, one occurrence within 3 days approaching court appearance, he resigned due to "we couldn't agree to accept settlement," after consistently emailing, texting and stating by phone and in person to me for 4+ years "we would not settle without open medicals," on my case and set in open court did not represent me or advise me at all in front of Judge and Defendant's Attorney. Totally sabotaged everything pertaining to the case. Including all the medicals being closed. Informing me as his client and the Judge that medicals were to remain open! Wanted to charge me full price for a deposition that he failed to properly legally advise me and the doctor we selected for an important deposition. There were so many issues that it was impossible to hire a new attorney, which I know was done deliberately. I wanted to give some insight on what I experienced dealing with this lawyer.

First two appointments were canceled. The actual Consult instead of him actually trying to help…..he was ready to throw in the towel and hand me to the wolves.I constantly had to explain that I was telling the truth the entire conversation. He even accused me of lying on his secretary, and proceeded to call her in the room, as if I wouldn’t explain to her what she said to me just one day before. The secretary laughed at me stating I didn’t file the paperwork correctly. Turns out I did. if he records and monitors his calls, I would’ve suggested that he went back and listen to that phone call instead of accusing someone of lying in their first interaction.

Jimmy was very responive and even gave me his cell number but then I signed my lawsuit agreement and now five months later I cannot reach him. I have not heard from him since November when settlement wasn't reached and we needed to put together an action plan and to line up inspections. I have left countless messages. I DO NOT reccomend him. I have had other contact with other attornies that were far more professional. I graduated with several friends that now practice law and they do not treat their clients in this way. Very poor service.

Handling class action suit for toxic Chinese drywall litigation. Very knowledgeable and appears trustworthy but has been nearly impossible to contact regarding progress of lawsuit. Admittedly he has numerous clients that he is representing and has contacted us when something important happened (though sometimes with little time to spare for action). He badly needs to hire an assistant to take care of everyday questions and sent out a monthly letter to let us know what is happening. I marked that I would recommend him but if I found someone else with the same expertise who is more responsive I would switch in a heart beat.

We hired Mr. Stuckey to assist us with various benefits due to her and estate planning. The initial consultation was $500. After several weeks and a subsequent retainer, Mr. Stuckey did very little. I had a very important matter that would be handled my the M focal Board and Licensure Commission. My medical license and also my Alabama Controlled Substance Certificate had become jeopardized. The case would be try before the medical board and eight success or failure with hinge on the evidence and testimony of several key witnesses. Mr. Stuckey assured me that he had handled many of these cases. First became concerned a month or so before our hearing that he never could really grasp the issues in the science of what was it state. At the hearing itself, quickly became evident that he understood a little about the administrative process and workings of the board. I felt misled only to have my money taken. My mistake.

Jason Stuckey provides top notch legal services in Alabama. I never leave reviews but considering how tough it is to find a lawyer that you can trust these days, I will. I was referred to Mr. Stuckey by a friend who told me how honest he is and how he explained the case in terms they could understand not just the first time they met but throughout their case. Without getting to personal, both myself and friend had excellent outcomes that were greater than any other firm could have delivered. Thanks Jason Stuckey for providing such excellent legal services to the great state of Alabama.

Mr. Stone was the attorney for a relative's will and estate. A number of points in the will were quite problematic before the death. Mr. Stone was aware of those items but made no effort to try to resolve them. Those points did not go away in clearing up the estate and a large portion of the estate was used in paying his attorney fees. He seemed to blindly follow the executor's wishes without looking into the legality of anything. When all parties tried to compromise, he seemed to have no concept of how to compromise which meant more $$ was being used for attorney fees. I would NOT recommend Mr. Stone for anything!

Our Will was so poor written that is resulted in family melt down. Disposition of accounts were left out completely. Conflicting verbal promises were allowed to be discussed without any inclusion in the will, yet these were known challenges when the Will was written and should have been addressed. Disposition of family businesses interests were left out entirely. Legacy items allow to be traded without authorization. The confusion resulted in over $60, 000 in legal expenses by Dale alone, additional attorney's were called in to try to push for final resolution when Dale refused to cooperate. When the family asked to clarify items in the will, he refused, siting that he responds to the Executor ONLY, and the family is not his concern. Only when motions by the remaining family members to call for his disbarment and legal action, did he finally suggest resolution and closure. 40 minute conversations were billed out as 1.5 hours. When questioned, Dale said it was required "contemplation". Yet the same time frame was also billed in "preparation for discussion" with other party's all billed to the same estate. Simply put - DO NOT USE.

Jerome Carter refused to prepare for my Divorce Hearing. He knew nothing about my case, nor what was at stake. I had to correct him from the witness stand when he stated a falsehood that the opposing party could have easily produced evidence to the contrary. Carter refused to meet with me upon my request to review the evidence and devise a strategy to present my case in court. Carter refused to review evidence, and refused to present evidence in court. I paid Carter $2,500.00 for legal representation. He accepted my money but did not provide any legal counsel what's so ever. He just showed up to my hearing late and without preparation or a legal argument. During the proceedings Carter started writing out a few questions to ask the opposing party, then tuned to me and asked "what do you think I should focus on and what questions do you think I should I ask him?" Carter told me if I hired him the first thing he would do is file for immediate child support payments. Carter lied - He took no such action. Carter also stated he had a close relationship with the presiding judge and stated they were once lawyers with the same firm (if not partners in the same firm). Carter lies and uses deceptive practices to get your money and does not do what he said he would do. Further, Carter takes your money just to show up to court wearing a suit and tie - and that's all you get for your money - is Jerome Carter showing up to court late wearing a suit and tie. Carter does not prepare for your case in any way. Don't hire Jerome Carter unless you just want to donate Your money to his personal favorite charity - HIMSELF. Don't hire Jerome Carter - You Will LOSE!!!

This attorney completed my divorce filing in 2010. I did not receive vital information that would have affected how I handled a credit card on the divorce fiiling. That oversight ultimately left me vulnerable to the future spending of my ex husband. When approached for assistance, she was unresponsive and detached. I was not, at the minimum, advised to seek a settlement that followed state guidelines. I lost tens of thousands of dollars in possible child support over the last 5 years. I was not advised to have the money directly taken from his check. When he stopped paying, it was extremely costly to go after that money. I am in the process of re-doing the divorce, costing me thousands more dollars. I would strongly recommend against hiring her for any legal representation.

Mr. Forrester was well prepared as he had been given all the facts and everything was on our side. he could have easily got the children home but without even consulting me he asked the Judge for extended and did not attempt to get the children out of foster care. He later told me that I should not question his strategy. My new Attorney reviewed his work and his itemized statement and she could not believe the amount he had charged and what he had charged for. She said she would help me deal with him. But nothing can ease the pain of knowing my grand children are suffering and being abused and he has caused our family so much pain.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
