I have hired her for my wife's green card adjustment. First consultation confirmation call was supposed to be done over the phone call. She was rude over call and kept telling me that i have an extreme language barrier. Then asked me to come in the office again and pay the consultation fee again. While we were in the consultation, she kept receiving her personal calls for the hour that we had paid twice for. Then she left the office twice. There is no paper work given when we paid at the same time she made fun of our accents. Then no response to our emails for days and we made phone calls and then asked again to send emails. My friend who suggested me the firm was given a different price for green card application for the spouse and was given a lower price. Our cases were exactly the same.

She first helped me on my H1B application with the premium processing. I got offered for this job in the very last minute (last week of March) but her office helped process everything so quickly and submitted my application on time. Again, in 2017, she helped me with the Green card application. Trupti and her staffs were very knowledgeable and on top of everything. They always kept us posted and proceeded everything in a timely manner. After 6-7 months, we got our green cards. This would not happen without her helps and hard work during the process. We could not thank you enough!

I had an excellent experience working with Trupti Patel. I first got L visa and then Green Card with her help. She provided me with comprehensive information about every step in the process and answered my numerous questions with clarity and patience . Her attention to details is second to none. Overall, her professionalism and preparation of all legal documents in a timely manner made the process of getting Green Card for me, my wife, son and daughter very quick and frustration-free . Outstanding Immigration Lawyer. Strongly Recommend!

I hired Veronica White for a very simple case dealing with domestic violence, where I had 209A's in place. Against my wishes, she refused to let me testify, and insisted on a bench trial. The results were disastrous because she did not want to spend the time. I had been victimized many times, and knew what I was doing, yet Veronica did not allow me my due process.

There's a lot of positive things I can say about Veronica White but I will keep it as short as possible. What I can say is that she is the absolute best lawyer I've ever met and she's a fierce fighter and believer in her clients and proven their innocence. Veronica has successfully vacated a case I had that was hanging over my head for 10 years that would have led to lengthy separation from my family and for that I'm eternally grateful. I still remember the day we met and she took over my case. She looked me in the eye and told me not to stress as she will move mountains to win my case and that's exactly what she did. If you're wise enough to hire this lady just know you have made a very smart decision. Sincerely, Rich

Wendy was the lead lawyer helping to develop & support our IP work for a smart container. She came highly recommended from another group of entrepreneurs that had developed and sold their IP to a F1000 company. As CEO & founder of the company, I worked side-by-side with Wendy for over a year. Here are the highlights: 1. Incredibly intelligent - Wendy is a brilliant lawyer who is quick to understand various technologies. The speed with which she comprehends details allowed us to focus on the development of the IP, to which Wendy added tremendous value. 2. Quick worker - Wendy's turnaround time on her deliverables for the company was off-the-charts. She excels in what she does, and her ethic and love for her work is contagious. 3. Dedicated - Wendy spends the time explaining everything you may have a question on so as a client you can make the most informed decision possible. 4. Amicable - Wendy is always a pleasure to work with. She always made me feel comfortable during a process which at the time I knew nothing about. In a nutshell: Both for her work and attitude, I would hire Wendy again and strongly recommend her.

As the CTO of a growing tech company on the Senior Board of the Toronto Stock Exchange we found ourselves on the other side of an assertion made by a US firm. Our diligence process lead us to Wilmer Hale, and Wendy Haller Verlander in particular, who lead the development of our case. Wendy's strong technical background and knowledge of the law was evident from the start. During the two plus years that this case developed in terms of depositions, expert reports and court appearances I came to truly respect Wendy's ability to assimilate information quickly and to turn it into effective and actionable legal tactics. Her creativity when it came to looking at different angles of attack and building the case momentum was also noted by our senior executive and board of directors. Ultimately the case was resolved through a favorable business agreement that directly benefited from the overwhelming strength of the case developed by Wendy and her team. I continue to respect Wendy's keen technical intellect and knowledge of the law and continue to recommend her work to colleagues and business associates.

Wendy is an exceptionally thoughtful, informed and diligent lawyer. She came highly recommended from a legal team at Skadden - I run a startup in Boston and needed a local lawyer. Wendy and the WilmerHale team helped with wireframes, claims, strategy and prior art. She was very open in her evaluation of the product and related IP. The process was seamless to file and Wendy even helped as Venture Capitalists approached my company to evaluate the patents relating to our technology. As a lawyer, Wendy periodically goes above and beyond. She has helped connect me to startup advisors as well as tech/healthcare subject matter experts. I highly recommend Wendy Verlander for as an IP lawyer.

Every year Boston magazine publishes the results for top attorneys in Boston from different legal specialties, from business and criminal law to family and employment law. If there are top 100 attorneys; Edward Wayland would be voted as the top 10 WORST attorneys in Boston. I'm very grateful I had made the right decision to terminate him for ineffectiveness of his counsel. About few years ago, To today's day, I never regretted (terminating) firing Edward Wayland. He almost ruined my life and my freedom. lack of communication, Failure to exercise diligence, ineffectiveness of his counsel, and Incompetence, Incompetence, and Incompetence. I'm in the process of filing a complaint against him to the Massachusetts Board of Bar Overseer; Attorney and Consumer Assistance Program (ACAP), I think he should get his license suspended or revoked. (everything I stated here is true except for the top 10 worst attorneys).

I would like to share with everyone the extremely positive experience we had with Attorney Edward Wayland. We were "in the weeds" and getting "bullied" by opposing counsel. Edward just calmly and rationally cut through "the sideshow" intended to distract and turned the situation around 180 degrees. Most importantly Edward held to his integrity and achieved a "just" outcome. I am happy to speak with anyone directly as this is a real experience. You can contact Edward for my details.

We were stuck and hired Edward. He did an extraordinary job against the oppositions "shark" of an attorney. He kept his integrity and did not resort to the other side's unscrupulous behavior and tactics. He was able to persuade a judge, who was determined to agree with the misrepresentation, to see our honest presentation of the facts. I highly recommend Attorney Edward Wayland.

I hired Attorney Vaughn-Martel after a civil lawsuit was filed against me by an ex-girlfriend over ownership rights to a vehicle I had solely purchased during our 4+ year relationship. An injunction/ court order was filed against me stating that I was not allowed to sell the vehicle until the case was heard before a judge. I hired Vaughn-Martel in hopes that he'd be able to assist in getting the court order lifted as I was unable to afford payments on the vehicle and wanted to be able to sell it. After several months of negotiations between Vaughn-Martel and the plaintiff's attorney a Settlement Agreement was drafted by Vaughn-Martel's office and was forwarded to me for review and signature. I stated the Agreement was to my liking and was told that the Agreement would be sent out AS IS to the Plaintiff and then sent to me for signatures. Problems arose when I found out that after I had approved what I thought to be the FINAL draft of the Settlement Agreement that the Plaintiff's attorney asked that a few changes be made and Attorney Vaughn-Martel's office made these changes without my knowledge, consent or even a discussion of such. When I contacted Attorney Vaughn-Martel to indicate my disproval of such changes I was told that there was nothing they could do to change the Agreement back as the REVISED Agreement had already been mailed out to the Plaintiff for signature. I was beyond irate at this point. To make matters worse is the Plaintiff was never able to obtain financing in order to follow through on the terms of the Settlement Agreement by purchasing the vehicle to pay off my loan (which I couldn't afford to pay and faced repossession of) and to compensate me for monies she had stolen via check fraud / forgery. After the Plaintiff had breached the Agreement by not coming up with the funds within the allotted time frame as per Agreement terms, I was advised by Attorney Vaughn-Martel that selling the vehicle, paying off the loan and keeping the balance of the agreed upon sales amount for myself would be a "viable solution to complying with the agreement, getting rid of the car, and getting settlement funds, all in a way that protects my interests in the event I had to go in front of a judge." I followed my attorneys exact advice and I sold the vehicle 2 days prior to the date it was to be repossessed but only got what I owed. When I got in front of the judge though I was found in contempt of court for going against the imposed court order. Attorney Vaughn-Martel never once stated that he had advised me to do such nor did he defend me in any sense of the word. He never tried to state facts and in no way stood up for me. He seemed to have no idea what to say in court and came across as being completely unprepared, incompetent, unprofessional and unknowledgeable of how to defend a client. He let me hang out to dry and when I confronted him prior to the next hearing for my punishment in front of the judge he totally denied ever having advised me to go against the court order. I even showed him his own email to me stating his advice and he still insisted he never advised such. He then stated it would be in my best interest to allow the civil case against me along with my counterclaims against her for stolen monies be dismissed as per the Plaintiff's request or the judge could punish me by making me pay her money for selling the car. I felt as though I was being coerced into settling the case because my attorney didn't want to have to explain himself to the judge as to why he advised his client to go against a court order. Due to being in fear of what the judge might fine/punish me with and knowing I had no more money and no real counsel on my side to defend me I went against my rights and agreed to allow the case to be dismissed. I ended up with nothing more than destroyed credit & added debt due to racking up $7k in legal fees.....way more than Vaughn-Martel Law ever truly earned or deserved

Went to this firm to help set up my franchise. Honestly was a horrible experience. Communication was terrible (I'd have to email the same question 4-5x before finally getting a response) and the quality even worse. They literally took a generic franchise template, charged me thousands and then sent it to me with numerous mistakes throughout (citing anything from construction to nanny's - both had absolutely nothing to do with my business. I went to a new firm who couldn't even use the FDD they created as there were so many mistakes throughout. Complete waste of time and money.

Attorney Ryan's intelligence, experience, and knowledge of the law are unparalleled. When those attributes are combined in an attorney who truly cares for your best interests, the feeling of support is tangible. In a field sometimes devoid of honesty and compassion, Attorney Ryan stands out as an example of true integrity. His team matches his character, and I can truly say that I enjoyed going into the offices of Witmer, Karp, Warner & Ryan LLP, despite the circumstances! I value beyond measure the support, kindness, and guidance, I was shown all along the way and cannot recommend Steven and Witmer, Karp, Warner & Ryan LLP highly enough.

I am working with Attorney Kane and he is my second lawyer. He is very smart and has done more in a short period of time than my other counsel did in a year plus. I was told by my prior counsel that these ratings can be manipulated by Husbands and Wives on the other side of a case who are unhappy with the result of their case. This guy is reasonable and can advise on how a Judge might rule on an issue. I came to him because he runs the mediation program for the Middlesex Court. He was highly recommended by people who work at the court. I find personal recommendations better than these message boards. He is a five star. Michael

I hired him with all sorts of promises of a 48 hours turn around for phone calls and contact. That he stood up to bullies etc. I left a firm that was even more expensive (but would have been less given that they would have gotten my due) to go to Marty Kane with all his promises. He NEVER gets back to you. He misses deadlines. His paralegal whose office is stacked with papers any no order does all the work. He is condescending. After my ex spent hundred of thousands of dollars without any motion against all my requests, I left him and ended up with so much less. He is asleep at the wheel, and then some. If you have any attention that your case needs, he is not your man. The people I interview to leave him said that they get so much business from them, because this is not a new story. Run from him. Even though he is one of the "Lawyers of the Year" it is because he fights these comments and his father teaches judges. STAY away. I know of no less than 10 other people who feel the same way.

We had multiple legal issues to solve at the same time with a very short deadline (not even a week). Edward was travelling but still managed to take care of us, worked restlessly to make it work and thanks to him we have been able to file on time. He also spent time to help us find the right attorney for our other legal issue that was not related to immigration. He called lawyers on our behalf to ensure they will successfully take our case. We don’t know how we would have done without him, his dedication was incredible. I would recommend Edward with 0 limitations.

My wife is French and when we were getting ready to get married, we went through hell trying to figure out the best path forward to be able to live together in the same country. First we hired two French immigration lawyers. The first was rude and unhelpful over and over, so we ended up terminating our work with her. The second seemed at first like he'd be better, but ended up increasing his fee (considerably) twice due to our case becoming more complicated, and threatened to refuse to even send us our paperwork back if we didn't pay right away. So again we walked. The first US attorney we tried working with was friendly and meant well, but after our first consultation with him we went home and good old Google confirmed that his information was incomplete and out of date. Frustrated but determined to find a way, we finally found Edward. Phew!!! From the very first consultation with Edward, we knew we were in the best of hands. Edward was deeply knowledgeable, friendly, patient, and incredibly competent from the get-go. He asked a lot of questions, worked with us in depth to understand every little detail of our case, and was always one step ahead of the process, sending preparation paperwork in advance, checking in regularly to ensure we were staying on top of our preparations, and even offering multiple practice interviews for my wife who was a bit nervous about that part of the process. Twice during our process with Edward, the sale of our apartment in Paris fell through, and we had to change our plans and dates. Each time, based on our experiences with our other lawyers and our recognition that we were asking him to do a lot more work, we offered to increase the fee. He refused categorically, and continued to work with us competently and patiently through our 13 month process, helping us reschedule our interview twice. I'm writing now from California, where my wife, baby, and I have settled and are loving our life. We feel we owe this happiness to Edward in a more profound way than I could possibly express in this little box. There is simply too much to this saga to try to fit it all in, and too much was at stake to express how much Edward's solid work meant to us. For example, the part where my non-renewable tourist visa to stay with my wife in France expired the day before our baby's due date, meaning that if we didn't get the process just right, the potential outcome could have been literally catastrophic. I couldn't recommend Edward more strongly, and we look forward to staying in touch with him over the years, as well as working with him for our green card renewal, and any other needs we ever have in this realm.

My experience with Me Weiner has been just fabulous and, for the very first time, after several bad experiences, it really reconciled my thoughts for this profession. Here are already 6 points on which I am super satisfied: Attorney Weiner's understanding of your case and goals after your first consultation Communication with our firm throughout your case Attorney Weiner's legal advice and counseling Service and effectiveness of our firm Final Resolution of your case Reasonableness of our firm's fees I have really no negative message to tell about him and I hope everyone can live the experience I had with Me Weiner. My story: I'm French and Canadian and in Oct 2013, I had the bad experience to be refused at one USCIS office. I was forbidden to cross the US border because of a naive mistake I did then. After this I tried to fix my situation in Canada, my country. Unfortunately, I just met bad lawyers pretending they were American law experts, giving me wrong info, wanting to extort me some insane fees. After 5 yrs of being a ping pong ball, I never found satisfaction in Canada. I was really lost with these contradictory info I gathered so far. My patience and will to fix properly my issue finally got rewarded. I turned toward an American Attorney Who knows best the American rights than an American attorney ?! That was the wisest thing I did. I chose Me Weiner because he was a specialist in US immigration and he spoke also French, ma native language. It is already very tricky to understand the legal and technical jargon in French so have an entire communication in English would have been an nightmare for me as I wanted to understand fully my situation. Me Weiner and his assistant speak and write perfectly French and it was truly appreciated. I could have chose another American lawyer who spoke French as well but I chose Me Weiner because of these reasons - and even after reading the bad comment about him on this website on March 2014 - - 1st phone call to introduce my case, my fears and situation: free - very affordable fees compared to Canada - Transparent fees, clear WITHOUT mysterious new extra fees during or when we closed the case. - unlimited phone calls and emails but for me, the most important was the simplicity of communication with him. Me Weiner's always been clear. he took the time needed to understand my issue without counting the hours and he noticed points that no one noticed before. Yet these were just essential. Often, experts, whatever the field, use specific jargon and for a non expert person it can be very confusing. Me Weiner was very aware of this and used words everyone could understand, to make sure I was really understanding my file, the consequences, the possibilities. For the 1st time since 2013, to carry this burden and anxiousness with my wife, we were glad to feel that we were not alone anymore. I'm really VERY HAPPY of my experience with Me Weiner. He has been super efficient, noticed all the important facts, always attentive, very concerned to the details. Me Weiner knows perfectly his field of expertise but he knows very well how to communicate and so his assistant. Always very kind and polite to my wife and I. Always honest and clear in his words because the first he wanted for me was to solve my issue that has been following me for 5 years. It is the first time I felt in confidence and supported in a situation that caused many concern and stress to my wife and I and that seemed impossible to fix. The D-day came, Me Weiner adviced me one USCIS to show my file. One of his colleague lawyer close to that office was aware I was there in case I needed extra fast help during the interview. The file was just perfectly built. He prepared me for that event by mail and phone and finally after 30min at the border, I got the authorization to cross again the US border. I found back my liberty thanks to Me Weiner I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Me Weiner.

2014-2015 - I contracted with Ms. Studen at Burns and Levinson to assist me in a case of sexual harassment from a subordinate employee under the aegis of the Massachusetts Administrative Laws . The opposing attorney clarified the final offer a few hours before it would terminate. Ms Studen and her associate assigned to the case were both unavailable on a Sunday evening at this most critical moment in my case. Hence, they were unable to review the clarification provided by the opposition and were unable to advise me before the offer was withdrawn. Sadly, I had contacted both of my attorneys by text message well before the deadline on that fateful Sunday to ask if there were any changes or communications from the opposition. There was no response to my query and all was lost. This is more than just a financial loss for me ($20K in fees and $25K in lost settlement offer). Unless I go before the Massachusetts SJC, there will never be closure for me from now until my dying day.

What i can not understand is why attorney Lichten would not let me participate in a class action lawsuit. I tried to reason, talk, call, meet with him, but he seemed to have a certain set of prejudice and anything else to keep me involved. I still am not sure why. I wish i had been asked or questioned or something to get to the bottom of it. I was a simple young woman trying to make my way into a law enforcement league in need of diversification in Cambridge Ma. I passed the required civil exam, three times. I waited and inquired and nothing. I had heard through some exam participants that a few in my case--who had passed the exam and seemingly had been removed based on race---were being called to a global civil class---with a settlement. Mr Lichten's firm at the time sent me a notice---which specified that my name was a on "shortfall list" of candidates who were to be contacted sooner or later in regards to the civil class action. I had great hope---that eventually after 1-3 years of waiting, i would be contacted examined or interviewed. Nothing came of it---- This is not an attempt to taint Mr Lichten's record at all. I have checked his records and i would say that nothing someone like me would taint or diminish the amount of greater cause works and achievements he has piled up over the course of 20 plus years in Boston. I do believe he is probably a well-meaning and honest man---I am certain based on all the civil cases i have looked and seen him win for the little guys that he is a super lawyer indeed in his capacity and an outstanding officer of the law and of the greater good. I just wished he had been more helpful kinder and more considerate with me. God only knows that good intents always outshine and supersede all of our bad ones. Always. In spite of all, of course---I'll recommend him!

Unprofessional, unethical, rude, frivolous attorney who believes he is above the law. Good luck to anyone with the misfortune of dealing with or hiring this attorney. I have never dealt with a more corrupt human being let alone attorney of the law. He represents every single thing an attorney should not. He has only bad intentions and gives attorneys everywhere a horrible name.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
