Ms. Goodbody's services as a Child Legal Representative can be bought. She is corrupt, unprofessional and doesn't give a rat's a.. about the children involved. She will conduct ex parte communications during a legal proceeding (which is illegal) and she will lie during court proceedings, if it suits the party that's paying her. Keep yourself and your children as far away from her as you possibly can.

2017: I was wrongfully evicted by Boulder Housing Partners. They hired Brett Glass. They used a c.a.r.e.n. in the building to lie and say I hit her! Total hearsay.! I was dealing with 2 injuries and trying to get well. He later took on the c.a.r.e.n.s case. Where they tried to use her preexisting brain tumor as my fault! I could not afford attorney. He also lived next to my best friend and would harass me there. I'm still traumatized by this UNPROFESSIONAL Lawyer. Later I found out he used the SAME c.a.r.e.n. to lgo after BHP. I guess 'they' finally got "their' money! This guy IS a terrible person. And his mind is all about MONEY NOT PEOPLE....meanwhile still homeless senior.

His free consultation was not, in fact, free: I got billed $87.50 for 15 minutes, when he ran overtime while bloviating without letting me get in a word edgewise. No way I would have wanted to stay for billable hours, but I acquiesced because he put pressure on me to pay, despite me not having pre approved. I then was looking to have document review in a timely manner the following week: he did not return my call in anything approaching a timely manner.

Used my out-of-control teen's lies AND my disability to keep me in court (and paying child support to foster parents and child services). Refused to convey to court that my other kids were in the home, and she let the foster family get away with kicking my daughter out WHICH SHOULD MAKE THEM INELIGIBLE TO CONTINUE BEING FOSTER PARENTS. Her refusal to correct the record cost me thousands of dollars and extreme emotional distress.

Harris represented me in 2006 to 3008 when he refused to appeal . He did not look at all the evidence, indicated that he had a lot of trial experience in probate law which is not his forte, He's a nice guy that no one want to sue but is totally incompetent. His representation forced me to loose all my assets that I worked for over 50 years. He left town while the decision was being prepared. He was with 2 partners who also dropped the ball. He cannot handle difficult cases and does not obtain evidence before the time limit. He does not listen to his client. He should not be in the courtroom as he does not take notes for use in an appeal. He does not prepare for different possible claims. Incompetent is the word.

I used Steven Harris for a relatively complicated arbitration which was before the American Arbitration Association. At the time I engaged him, he was with a Boulder, Colorado law firm, shortly thereafter he left the firm and subsequently contacted me and asked to continue representation in the matter. I had not used him previously, he had been recommended by another lawyer. That is probably when I should have contacted a different attorney. Mr. Harris is without the resources of a firm. I believe he is/was dealing the financial issues of a new practice, the ONLY thing that was done on time were his charges against the retainer; he represented that he could handle the matter for $10,000, it ended up being nearly triple that amount. During depositions he was unprepared, appeared in jeans and sneakers and did practically nothing. Each of his preliminary matters were dismissed. About a week prior to the arbitration he started to attempt to focus on the matters at hand, unfortunately for me, as he had done throughout the proceeding, he had lost pertinent knowledge of the matter and spent preparation time attempting to find a silver bullet and therefore did not adequately prepare for the arbitration. Needless to say, there was no silver bullet, and the arbitrator rendered what could be considered to be a complete and thorough refute of the case presented by Mr. Harris. I had provided a very thorough set of background documents which were essentially unused in his preparation. The only matter which was completed was the payment of his bills which were rendered in increments that appeared to be dictated by his personal financial requirements. When the arbitrator's determination was sent to him, he forwarded a copy to me via e-mail and did not accept or return my calls. Mr. Harris seems to be unable to focus on or handle complex matters. He is a sole practitioner that needs the resources and discipline of a firm. I could not recommend him for any type of complex legal matter and it appears he has no specialty, so if he is to be engaged one should be certain that the matter and work is basic, non-complex and that the work begins and ends over a short period of time.

Mr. Kumli did not respond to our requests or communicate with us for almost two months and delayed in drafting an agreement which we hired him to produce. We were never given an explanation or excuse. He also did not transmit the requests from the state water board for legal affidavits which were necessary for our case to proceed. We were dumbfounded that he had completely dropped the ball and delayed any progress in our legal matter. His office also double billed us on a number of documented occasions.

I had Jack Donenfeld of Corporate Research llc to form a Nevis llc for me. I was sending him $2,000.00 every September to cover the fees for Foreign Registered Agent and Foreign Manager/Trust and his fee for taking care of being the intermediary. I sent him $2,000.00 for payment in September 2012. In January 2013 he sent my wife an email saying that we had to send him another $2,000.00 because the Foreign Manager/Trust was demanding to be paid early. I found out later that the Foreign Manager/Trust was dissolved January 11, 2011. The whole Company of Commonwealth Trust limited was in trouble and sold out. He told me if he resigned or was terminated that I would have to get a new Foreign Registered Agent that he would instruct them to decline the work. I did terminate him as the intermediary. I requested that he refund me $3,600.00 that he was supposed to be paying a Foreign Manager/Trust that we didn't have. It probably should have been more since this company was in trouble in 2009. There is probably 30 more llcs that are involved in this deception. He told me that there would be no refunds.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
