I reached out to Taryn for a consultation and was immediately impressed with her sensitivity, compassion, and really smart advice. She never rushed me, and instead took her time to really listen to see how she could help me in any way that she could. I am so lucky to have found Taryn to help me with my case. Finding a Family Law Attorney who will take the time to really listen to your individual situation as opposed to making you feel rushed or like you are just a number, is very unusual. I look forward to having Taryn help me. and highly recommend her. She is the real deal.

I hired Taryn for help in custody of my son. From the start she was very receptive, warm, and understanding of the case. She was aggressive with getting everything done and making sure we covered all bases. She is an amazing attorney as well as an amazing person. There is no one else I would have represent me, period!

I have literally never met an attorney who genuinely cares about her clients. I came in to her office as a single mother with not a hope in the world that she or anyone else could help me get what I needed to guarantee what was in the best interest of my child. She is silent but deadly when the time comes and will fight for you until the end. Please, if you find an attorney who seems "practical" do not choose them, come here because Taryn will fight through to achieve the impossible.

A kind word never goes unheard, but too often goes unsaid. Cynthia's knowledge of marital law is so extensive I had to comment on how impressive she is. She doesn't pull punches. She analyzed my situation and told me what I needed to hear, not what I wanted to hear. This clarity was not only helpful from a legal standpoint but for emotional well being, too. Her sincerity was greatly appreciated. Having Cynthia guide me through my situation made it easier to sleep at night. She is passionate about her work and she provided me with a strategic plan. I am very grateful for her counsel.

Our visit with Attorney Richard Schwartz was totally awesome, my sister and I took our mother to finalize and confirm her wishes. Mom is 95 and we wanted to verify all would be in order coming that dreadful day. at 95 Mom is in great shape both physical and sharp as a tac in mind. My mom is of Italian decent and although she has been in the US for 75 years her English at times is limited. Attorney Schwartz started the meeting with getting to know Mom and making sure she understood what we were trying to accomplish both for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, at the end of our first meeting we had left the office and on the way home Mom had questions and a few concerns we called the office and scheduled another appointment for the following day Attorney Schwartz took his time re - explained Moms questions and concerns which made her feel completely at ease. Our family is ecstatic the way all has turned out. I would and will recommend Attorney Schwartz to any one that would need legal council the entire experience was professional and personnel to our family. Once again Thank You for your time and guidance. Sincerely Our Family.

Susser withdrew as attorney of record for a legal malpractice case two weeks before the Statute of Limitations had expired. He had accepted the case 41/2 Months earlier when he was sent all pertinent information. His withdrawal based on his belief case “too tough to win.” Legal malpractice expert had previously endorsed my claim. Could have and should have withdrawn much earlier allowing me time to hire another lawyer.

Gary Susser has been a guardian angel to me. He took my case when no one else wanted it including big names on TV. They all said the same thing " its a big insurance company that you are up against". and "its too hard to prove" my case. I was in a car accident, and had to go up against my own insurance company in court! It was the day that I met this man that I started to have hope again. He took my case and it was as hard as everyone said it would be. Gary and his assistant, Yvonne guided me through this terrible ordeal and won my case! I will forever be in debt. Sincerely, Linda

Mr. Mednick was hired to challenge a will and trust. At the start he said the case was good and he was paid a large sum of money. Once he received the money he appeared disinterested in the case and despite repeating myself about what happened, he did not take it onboard. He filed against the will and trust on my behalf, but did a poor job and due to his lack of care I lost the case. I have a new lawyer who reviewed what he filed and it was found that had he not filed the challenge the way he did I stood a good chance of winning. Now, the new lawyer has been doing damage limitation that has cost a lot of money in litigation. He showed a lack of due care and professionalism.

She droped the ball from day one when she did not file and the other party filed first. Getting her on the phone or to respond to emails was next to imposible. Mediation she recomended a private meadiator which was a joke. When it came to trial she was totaly unprepaired even though I had every text message and recorded notes every day on the events that took place these were never even brought up in court. She basically sat there and told me to do the same. Please if you care about your children do not use her unless you want a fly -by-the-seat-of -your-pants lawyer who just wong it in the court room and did not prepair at all.

Hired this person to sell my house which she was incapable of selling after three attempts and six months. I was notified days before the closing that the sale was not going through. She wanted to charge me 1k for her vendors even though the house never sold. She indicated that she sold the house three times however I still own the home. You can not get a word in edgewise and she is pushy and arrogant. I would not use this individual, however, after conversations with her you will see my point.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
