Joe is a true professional in every sense of the word. He was recommended to me by friends, and they couldn't have suggested a better attorney. He is legal savvy, persistent and aggressive in serving his clients. From start to finish my case was over and done in less than six weeks. The case was dismissed by the state prosecutor. Joe's fees are fair, and is a bargain for his legal expertise. Thank you.....

I used Mr. Pratt sue my brother in sister for stealing ftom my mother. One day before the closing of the property, Mr. Pratt file legal paperwork to keep the $$$ from being dispersed to traitors. He did a good—-very fast job to get the paperwork filed in less than 24 hrs. However, he asked me if I wanted to immediately investigate the finances or ask my brother what happened to the finance. He suggested I ask my brother—-$$$ later I realized He had advised me to choose the wrong answer which costs me $$$ when we could have gotten down to the nitty gritty by doing financial investigation. I became frustrated at spending so much money and figuring out my lawyer was manipulating the case........I completely dropped it and prob out $200k because of lawyer after i had i interviewed 7 others!...

Mrs. Benson exceeded our families expectations in one of the worst times of our lives. When we felt hopeless, she helped us not only find hope, but helped our family have a chance to be together again. Our case began at the start of Covid shutdowns and Mrs. Benson got to work immediately helping us navigate through constantly changing times. She was compassionate and always willing and available when we needed her. She made us feel as if we were her only client. The case ended and our family member was in a far better position than we could have imagined. We are forever grateful for her and we highly recommend her.

Carl Reynolds represented me in a lawsuit which took 6 years to come to a resolution. The Defendant fought hard against my claim, but Mr. Reynolds and his staff did not give up and fought back even harder. It was a long hard fight and in the end Mr. Reynolds prevailed on my behalf gaining a jury verdict of over $1,000,000. Attorney Reynolds made me feel like he was truly concerned for my well being and that I truly mattered. During those six years, Attorney Reynolds and his staff became family and they treated me like family. I am very grateful that God placed Mr. Reynolds in my path. Thanks again Mr. Reynolds!

I worked with Attorney Swift on a multi-jurisdictional case. It took Attorney Swift only about a week and a half to resolve a complicated legal situation. To compare, another Florida attorney and at least two governmental entities attempted to do so for close to two months, unsuccessfully. It took a timely response and an expert knowledge of Florida civil procedure to make happen what Attorney Swift accomplished. I very much recommend her.

Her inexperience damaged a life of someone where she could have prevented has she done the work, but chose not to. When called out on it, she decided to ignore and not address or help. I guess it's not her life, so she doesn't care to correct something that clearly could have been prevented. When becoming a lawyer, one should consider being accountable no matter what. Too bad another's life has been adversely affected and she could care less.

First of all, Greg Kramer does nothing, his Clerk (Wayne) does all of the work. BUT the clerk does not go to Court. So Kramer, who does not keep up-to-date on the info, is the one actually representing you. Anything you give to Kramer will not make it to the Clerk (I gave Kramer original documents that never made it to the clerk, had to re-complete my intake form, etc). There is a lack of communication between Kramer and the Clerk. They rack up legal bills and give no results. Clerk wrote lots of motions and files (and subsequently charged me for his time), then they would not use them. For example, they unilaterally decided to do Contempt of Court on the opposite party when he didn’t pay his child support, spent a lot of my time writing emails, motions, etc. Then it all just disappeared. When I asked what happened the clerk said, “No contempt. Greg made that decision and it had been already removed from prior hearing.” I was not asked to start or stop that process, but I was charged. That is just one example of many where they wasted my money in that manner. Kramer gave terrible advice. The #1 reason I got a lawyer was so they could guide me through the process and help me know what outcome to expect. Kramer is either ignorant to how judges typically rule in family court OR purposefully misled me in order to make money off of me. I suspect a little of both. When the opposing counsel asked us to go to mediation, Kramer and his Clerk told me not to go and to wait until after the first court date. They continually reassured me that nothing would happen at the court date (which they set) except appointment of a GAL and a Social Investigation. Kramer recommended and set up this court date and then was completely unprepared. Nor did he prepare me (I called him multiple times asking to meet, and he kept saying we had plenty of time). As one small example (I have many) the opposing lawyer had a document that I had originally provided for evidence at the beginning of the legal process. Kramer tried to object to it and the opposing counsel reminded him “your office filed this.” To make matters more laughable, Kramer then asked if the opposing counsel had printed a copy for him. Kramer had zero evidence, made zero points, alienated the judge in his opening statement (and actually argued when the judge corrected him until the judge said that he could stop and read the transcripts if necessary). He was not credible in court at all. Kramer simply talked in circles. He obviously just likes to hear himself talk, but there is no substance being said. Our Guardian Ad Litem told me Greg “did not advocate for you at all.” The opposing counsel stated that Greg “made a fool of himself.” Greg emailed me hours after the trial saying he was sorry, but also deflecting blame from himself. One day later he emailed me saying that he assumed I wanted him to withdraw and that they would prepare a final bill and the paperwork for withdraw. The next day the clerk messaged me saying, “Mr. Kramer thinks you will be seeking new counsel. Is that correct?” Kramer pushed me very hard to let him leave the case. So Kramer did not do his job, which put me in a terrible position, and then immediately wanted to withdraw from the case. He charged me a significant amount of money, got me no results, and then left me scrambling to find another lawyer to fix what he had ruined. Terrible. He is the exact type of lawyer that gives lawyers a bad name. He does no work and does not care about his clients. He needs to retire.

I hired Donna almost a year ago for a child support modification. My ex-husband is currently 9 months behind on child support and at times refuses to bring my child back after visitation has ended. Donna at first appeared to be a go for lawyer and I thought she was very aggressive. But here I am almost a year and $20,0000 later and this situation has not changed at all and she has changed scheduled court dates twice because she is ill prepared... She continuously has to be versed on what the law says during certain situations, (because of research I conducted) she claims to tell me something she never has, (which she then sees in an email in her drafts that she never sent) and she keeps siding with my ex-husband on things that clearly are not expectable, i.e., my sons father not bringing him back to me for over 6 hours after he was supposed to be back with me, not paying one cent in child support (she claims she understands because he has bills to pay, etc….) Donna is very incompetent in what she does, as far as family law goes. I would strongly advise anyone considering hiring a family law lawyer to defiantly go elsewhere. I spent a lot less money on my entire divorce and I am already at $20,000 on a simple child support modification… We have had 4, yes F O U R mediations… And they are not cheap… I feel as if Donna has basically been doing all of unnecessary things that she could think of in order to obtain the maximum amount of money out of me and my family as she can… It’s so frustrating.

Grissim Walker handled my bankruptcy starting in August, 2008 I thought he handled my case in a very professional manner. In July, 2018. a Federal Bankruptcy Judge released the final decree. It is my impression Mr. Walker carried a very heavy work load. You need many reviews, to be fair, Surveys should be conducted on the cases he has handled. a computer program could be created to strip off this information from the database. I personally would use him again if had a need.

Florida Bar shows no disciplinary actions against Mr. Walker on its website. In truth, two separate ethics complaints were filed against him recently for botched bankruptcies. In unanimous votes, the Florida Bar found him guilty of misconduct in both cases and Mr. Walker admitted to select charges in both instances. In the first complaint the Bar investigated at least 11 ethics violations against this lawyer. It is unclear how many the second complaint involved. Joseph A. Corsmeir, Esq., represented Mr. Walker as his malpractice attorney. Research also revealed very serious problems with at least one other client previous to these complaints however no record of Bar action can be found. Despite harsh wording in regards to his misconduct, the Bar offered Mr. Walker an alternative to disciplinary sanction. He will participate in a Law Office Management Assistance Service (LOMAS) review to address the shortcomings that played a part in the violations. According to the Bar, "The program is designed to enhance the respondent's ability to practice law and thereby allow future clients to receive more professional service." He was also required to pay $1,750 in fees and costs. If he completes the program the files on these cases will be closed. In the situation where the specifics are known, the ethics violations were egregious and inexcusable. He has refused to make right the damage he caused. I would recommend that this attorney be avoided at all cost.

I had a very simple case, but Mr. Thompson turned it into a huge case which could have ended up costing me over $15K for a situation which only required less than $4K to resolve. A second opinion pointed this out to me and I was able to leave his firm with just about $1K in fees. Could have cost a lot more. A conflict appeared to be involved but which he didn't address. Could have cost me a lot more had I continued with him. There also was no fee agreement drawn up, which I thought was very odd.

This lawyer seemed to lack the understanding for the needs of elderly. As I sat in on 3 different sessions with my father and parents she spoke with legal jargon and spoke at a pace that would confuse anyone, let alone an 86 year old hard of hearing individual. It was very frustrating for me to find out that this was the person my father had trusted his estate and trust planning to. We are now with a very patient lawyer who speaks clearly and slowly with language that my father can better understand. He is very respectful of my parents, speaking directly to them and not to me "as an interpreter". We are all going to be 80 something someday and even lawyers need to see that. Respect needs to be taught in Law School as well.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
