I was in a horrible head on collision two years ago after someone ran a red light.. I thought I was ok at first but then a week later I was having knee problems. A friend suggested I get an injury lawyer in case medical bills get expensive. Heather Campbell and Chris Dugan on the first meeting I found they care about me and my family’s future above just getting another client. They were filled with compassion so I knew they were going to help me the way I needed. After two years of countless medical bills with knee surgery to X-rays to MRIs, and endless follow up visits with specialists, Heather and her team kept every bill organized to make sure I did not have to pay for them. At the end of two years they got me every dollar that was available and the cherry on top was they knew the law so well that health insurance couldn’t come after me after the settlement. My family of 5 is forever grateful to Heather and Chris as there were times where I couldn’t work and was so worried if we couldn’t recover it but they got me all my missed pay and more. Now after everything is over I made some trusted good friends vs just a service I used. If you want professionals that know the law in and out and is always going to be on your corner, I wouldn’t choose anyone but Dugan & Campbell.

Truthfully, I don't know where I'd be without Chris and Heather. Navigating an injury is hard enough on its own, but dealing with the legalities around it can be debilitating - these two made sure it was anything but that for me. I am so grateful I was able to focus on my health and recovery while they handled my case. Their perseverance in making sure I got what I deserved is unmatched - they left no stone unturned and kept me updated along every point of the way. I hope to never have to deal with something like this again, but I'm comforted knowing I have these two to rely on should I need it!

I recently had the pleasure of Stuart Rubinstein's unparalleled representation in a serious case. He went the extra mile in every regard to make sure I understood every aspect of what was going on. He fought ferociously to defend my rights against a DA that was determined not to give an inch and ultimately helped me to obtain a judgement that was far beyond my expectations. In all that he does, this gentleman is passionate for justice and doing everything right. I give him my wholehearted endorsement and recommendation. It is no exaggeration to say that Mr. Rubinstein was an answer to my prayers. Because he cared about proper representation, I am a free man today. For that, I am forever grateful.

Just some background I'm 29 years old, married with 4 kids. I got charged with Class 1 assault with a deadly weapon and 3 counts of felony menacing. 14 months I was pending charges for these offenses. I was working in corrections in Kit Carson County at the time of my arrest. Before this I was enlisted in the United States Marine Corps for 8 years. Russ fought long and hard for me during Pre trial court hearings and turned out to be a rockstar during my 2 day jury trial. Not Guilty to all counts after the jury deliberated for only 20 minutes. Mr. Ray saved my life. My family and I are very thankful for this amazing man that fought for justice against a malicious DA office. I would reccomend Russell to anyone who wants to get the best possible outcome. Thank you so much Russ.

Attorney Mark Fenton did a great job evicting a tenant that had not paid rent for over 5 months. Mark handled all of the court filings and posting of notices to the tenant. His office staff was most helpful and responsive. Mark also referred us to an eviction coordinator that expedited the process and worked with the Sheriff to complete the eviction. Mark's rates are quite reasonable compared to other eviction attorney's that I interviewed.

I am deeply disappointed in the performance of District Attorney Brian Mason. His handling of the case involving Jeremey Rocha has been nothing short of a miscarriage of justice. Despite clear evidence pointing to multiple shooters and a history of violent behavior by Johnathan Jaros, Mason failed to conduct a thorough investigation. Instead, he unjustly sentenced Jeremey to life without parole for defending himself. The 17th Judicial District Attorney's Office, which represents the people of Adams and Broomfield Counties, is supposed to seek justice on behalf of crime victims and their families. It's disheartening to see such poor judgment in the people hired to serve and protect our community. How could Adams and Broomfield Counties allow someone like Brian Mason, who was elected in November 2020 and assumed office in January 2021, to be the chief law enforcement officer? Brian Mason's actions suggest a troubling pattern of corruption and incompetence. We must revisit any other cases he has overseen as DA, as his conduct raises serious concerns about the integrity of the justice system under his leadership. The people of the 17th Judicial District deserve better. The office, which prides itself on reforming the criminal justice system, needs to reassess its commitment to true justice and accountability.

To start, he would frequently forget details of our case. It was obvious some of his paperwork was copy and pasted because reading through it, he would mix up the sex of the client he was writing about, i.e. "she" instead of "he." His paralegal, also his wife, seemed to do most of the leg work. He also frequently made snide remarks about the other party's lawyer, which was completely unprofessional. Finally, on the big day, he needed an hour recess because he was working another case at the same time we were in court! Court took only an hour excluding the recess during which he was phone conferencing another case, and charged us for a full two hours! He came with a list of questions he was going to ask right before we went into court... which did not seem to make any sense and half of which were not even asked, and charged us for that too! During court, he was not even paying attention to what the other lawyer was asking (on either side), was side talking with his paralegal the entire time, and at one point actually left the courtroom. How disrespectful! We had given some evidence to him regarding the other party which only made us look ridiculous in court... which I would have thought that after being in practice for so long, he would have known it was senseless to bring it in. This, among other things, seriously questioned his level of competence. No wonder the judge did not rule in our favor. Then when we brought up our concerns afterward, his response was simply that nobody gets what they want and at least the other party didn't get as much money as they anticipated. He must have missed the part about how this was not about money but about the care and safety of a little girl! Now we are stuck with a $3k bill after a $1500 retainer. Just unbelievable.

I was a bystander in a case involving a potential rape. This Lawyer Martin Jeffery Flaum II was willing to waste our tax dollars and the defendant's time and money by prolonging the case even though he was more then aware that there was no physical evidence (DNA) and proceeded to continue with a trial that should have been thrown out of court. In attempt to try to get a conviction Martin Jeffery Flaum offered Mr. Fraser plea to a much lesser charge to get a conviction. Todd Fraser was not stupid enough to plea to this charge. I believe that this type of treatment is not a professional way of doing business. I believe that court was set up to convict the people at fault and not to attempt to pressure people into making a plea to something that they were never a part of. Martin also would send out subpoenas to people and then the case would be continued and would not contact you. This is as disrespectful of tax payers time and money as it gets. This seems to be the type of treatment that many people are frustrated with the court system. Even after four times that I spoke with Martin, he continue to be disrespectful in this way. He was real pleasant to speak with. A real smooth talker. When I spoke with him he laughed and said,"I hope you had a nice day off from work". This is not how I think we should be treating others. This is as if I invited you to a meeting I was in charge of and I cancelled the meeting and did not inform anyone that the meeting was cancelled. People take off work (Some without pay) to attend these hearings and miss work and he thinks it is funny. Real funny. If you like this type of treatment then you need to hire Martin.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
