So far she been a very reliable, efficient, dependable, honest, straight forward, aggressive, compassionate, understanding, & trustworthy attorney. I just wish that the closing of our case could be done a lot faster, almost 1 year. Dealing with certain insurance companies, that are not very cooperative is a struggle for any attorney; whether they are good, great, excellent, or average. So far she has been redeemed in my eyes. Hopefully, she can speed things along with the closing of our case for medical reasons, lost wages, pain suffering, & surgery.

I paid (in full) this firm $1000 to do a Sponsor packet to immigration in attempt to get my girlfriend released from custody on Wednesday, I forwarded them all my required documents around noon time and they even stated it "must be filed immediately" and "will be filed once they receive my documents" per phone conversations. On Thursday morning they asked for another document. I forwarded said document immediately. At 6 pm they stated yet another document needed printed off, signed and notorized. They waited 2 days to tell me this, went all morning on Thursday and waited to 6 pm at last minute to ask for the notorized paper. I rushed around Thursday night and got the document notorized and immediately forwarded to their office. Then on Friday morning, I called in and still nothing was filed and they stated "as they are going through the emails they will get to it, and it will be filed today". On Friday night early Saturday morning my girlfriend was deported. This office will not give me proof by time stamp or email showing anything was filed or return my money. On Monday morning they stated the computer shows she still in custody (when in fact she was deported back to Colombia) as if they never filed anything yet. Do not waste your time with this law firm and do alot of research to find one who cares, works in a "timely" manner and get a contract signed. Most immigration attorneys say they will do something to help which a simple way for them to get easy money and not help any further. 90% of lawyers are a joke dont care and only want money money money!

Mr. Nunez helped me with an old case from 2019 I had had a warrant for my arrest all was handled so great in 2023 he moved fast on my case he was so awesome to work with and very professional in court. I agree with other reviews Lupita the paralegal who works in office is a fast talker and does not help you with what you ask for. She is extremely manipulative and can make you uncomfortable to say anything at all. The secretary in office who works the front desk is very kind and helpful. If you can bypass Lupita. Mr. Richard Nunez was a 10/10 for an attorney I am so grateful for his approach and just how he is as a person. He listens well and if you come as professional as YOU can on your end it all works out better than you expect!! I did all that was expected of me at probation and Judge Rincones let me go free and I didn't have to pay the remainding probation fees. The entire experience with the Nunez was great. So much so I am returning and going to hire him again to clear my background.

He was not the best for my case. I had to return to another more experienced lawyer but, I was not able to correct the problem. So I am stuck in an unfair situation for my child and me. The more experienced lawyer said that the lawyer who took care of my case was not experienced and had structured the paperwork incorrectly.

My case and experience sound very similar to the 2 reviews done previously. I hired Quintanilla after him assuring me numerous times I had a strong case. I missed the initial hearing because of him. I then was very disappointed how he represented me during mediation. His response to specific outcomes were "it could've been worse." Not only did I lose primary residence with my child, I did NOT get 50-50 and now pay child support. Hiring and trusting Quintanilla backfired since I was the petitioner in the case. He was NOT able to accomplish anything for me. Would I recommend Victor Quintanilla to represent a single parent in a custody case? No, I do not.

He won't care about you or do any real work for you. He represented my ex and his lawyer...not me. He went to mediation and LIED about what I would agree to and gave my ex and his lawyer everything they wanted leaving me and my son in a terrible predicament and financial constraints. He refused to remedy any of the problems he caused me either and LIED to ME his supposed client about what I agreed to saying I changed my mind, which I never did....you can't trust him at all! Again, he won't care about you or go to any real work for you and he will betray you.

This guy here is worthless. He put his own personal issues ahead of my issues. But I hired him he didn't hire me. He doesn't return phone calls. He screwed my case up severely. He was thoroughly unprepared when we went to court. He was more concerned with getting praise from the judge instead of opening his mouth and challenging the opposing lawyer. He did not show at hearings which angered the judge. Try paying a lawyer to do nothing for you whatsoever and then just walking away and disappearing. Stay away from this guy.

Mr. Padilla has proven to be ineffective, incompetent and without intelligence when it comes to criminal law and prosecution. His inhumane tactics must be scrutinized by a jury of his peers or he cannot continue to be held as an authority of any kind in public office.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
