This attorney works for the public defenders office in fort myers florida. He is well versed in all aspects of criminal law and even though he has a high case load he is very astue and well read. I personally hope that he goes into private practice as this guy is a work horse who gives the state/govt no safe quater in defending his client i am grateful i have such a champion in my corner going to trial. I mean that in all sincerity.

If you’re in need of an attorney, it’s likely that you’re facing an extremely challenging and stressful situation—whether it involves personal injury, child custody, or criminal defense. During such times, having a trustworthy legal team to rely on is invaluable. I highly recommend Lusk, Drasites, and Talisano. From the start, Olinda, the receptionist, and my legal team, Mark and Maritza, showed exceptional kindness, compassion, and empathy. I always felt confident that they had my best interests at heart. Thanks to their hard work and dedication, the outcome of my case exceeded my expectations. I received fair and prompt compensation. Thank you, Mark and team, for your outstanding effort and support throughout this process!

My experience with Jones, Haber & Rollings law firm exceeded expectations. Since my initial visit to the Cape Coral office to the resolution of my disputes with a Construction company, the entire team was highly responsive, courteous, and easy to work with. They provided clear, concise legal advise that was easy to understand. This firm has a dedicated department for each service offering. This full service community of attorneys are specialized in multiple legal services. Estate Planning, Construction Law, Asset Protection, and Contract Drafting were services I inquired about. I was able to get help at reasonable and honest prices. Unlike other firms, this legal firm aims to build a positive long term reputation through integrity. I highly recommend Jones Haber & Rollings to any individual or business needing legal assistance and will definitely use their services again. This firm goes above and beyond for their clients.

You ask Ms. Rogers to come into you life at the worst time. Your lost, your confused, but you know you need help, Now, every case is different but when Collette opened that 3 inch binder with my name on the side, she meant business. She came out guns ablaze ready for a fight. She proceeded to show me and my husband (sorry ex husband) that after 25 years of marriage that I am not worthless and have no value. In the end fair is fair but I held onto the things that mattered the most to me. I thank her for that. I don’t know where the road of life will take me but she put me in the drivers seat.

I definitely would recommend Ms. Susan. She has helped me tremendously on my complex case for child custody/relocation for 2 years. She is a very awesome, sweet and humorous lady but means business at the end of the day . She takes the time to listen to you and addresses all your concerns. I couldn’t thank her enough, without her my outcome wouldn’t have been so great!

Not what I expected. With the recent passing of my father, i sought out a local attorney to begin the probate process. On a recommendation, I contacted this office and was passed to Sanchez for handling the probate. We met and discussed Dad's estate to include owning two houses, one here in Florida and another one in a different state. I filled out an inventory sheet showing Dad didn't have many assets but those two homes. Sanchez presented two alternatives for probate that I should consider. I chose the "Summary" route since Dad's estate was small. Alvarez said okay and NEVER mentioned that I should go with the "Formal" route. Then when it came time to transfer the deed for the out-of-state house, they charged me another $560 for necessary documents that should have been included in the original probate which I had already paid. Alvarez stated if i had gone with the "Formal" i wouldn't have incurred these additional fees.......then why didn't he say so in the beginning? He responded to my question by telling me he recommended the 'Formal' which is not true---if so, why would I have not followed the "expert" recommendation? Needless to say, when it came time to transfer title for the house in Florida, I sought out another law firm which went very well! Another attorney suggests I notify the Florida Bar of this unprofessional service.....we'll see.....

My wife and I had a appointment for 11:30 AM with Christiane Laumeyer. We arrived at 11:25 AM and was taken by the receptionist to a office to wait for the attorney. The Receptionist inform us that the attorney was running a little behind, we sat there until 12:30 PM and no one came in the office. We got up and left. We figured if this law firm is this disorganized then we didn't want them working us.

I couldn't have been more pleased with the services of the Martin Law Firm in guiding me through the probate process in the handling of my sister's estate. Beginning with my first phone call to Mr. Martin (Steve) on Dec. 05, 2023, to inquire about their services & fees; to the initiation of and completion of the probate process working with Mrs. Martin (Eviana) and her assistant Jennifer Alvarez, it was nothing but professionalism, responsiveness, clarity, patience, helpful, etc. I lived out of state and my sister did not leave a will, but with their help, the process went very smoothly. Their very reasonable fees were worth every penny. In fact, their guidance regarding the paying off of creditors saved me far more than the fees for their service. I would highly recommend the services of the Martin Law Firm.

I'm thankful for them they took my case when no one else would. I had been on ssdi and last year ssdi cut me off after spending months going back and forth asking me to submit updated info. In the end they cut me off saying they didn't get any updated info from my Dr's. I asked my Dr and was told ssdi never requested anything from them. So I got on the phone called about a dozen law offices. The other said they o ly delta with initially getting it then I found this offce explained everything to a clerk who said they felt i had a good case but have to verify with their lawyer and would call me back. A few minutes later he was back with me getting all the details. They filed the appeal for me and did the contact with the ssdi department even kept my insurance why I was going through the process. No mind you I did have to pay for it but in the end I got the funds from them back when they gave me my ssdi back. At 60 years oul and unable to work and being 100% disabled veteran if they hadn't helped i figure i probably wouldn't have got it back this quickly if at all. They do tell you upfront that it could take about a year and a half or more so I'm pleasantly surprised that from the time I contacted them in June last year because my June payment was going to be ly last but ofcorse I didn't think about the fact you get June payment in July. So from July till first week of February . I'm very impressed. The staff was always friendly. I never had to go into their office I did everything through phone, mail and email. The only reason for a 4 was I still had to fill out all the paperwork for ssdi myself. When I initially got it the place that was helping me even did the paperwork for me. So that's kind of what I expected. I'm not great with filling out paperwork lol If I contacted them they were always prompt with a response. If I ever have a reason for a lawyer office again and it's something they handle they will have my business. It was a pleasure. Thanks again

My experience with Avard , Micheal Sexton, my attorney is more than disappointing. I am well aware of the process for disability claims for I represented myself for 2 years. After being denied, I was referred to them. The lack of communication is unacceptable. I was a client for over 3 years. I wasn’t made aware of all of my responsibilities to obtain medical records until the last 3 months before my trial. A lot of the information they had in my file was completely incorrect. My age at the time was incorrect. They had no clue I was a widow of 9 years, which also falls into other disability categories. My medical conditions were stated incorrect. I was also sent to a Physician that stated my conditions incorrect. Had I had been informed to gather all of my medical and mental health records prior to 3 months of my trial, I would have done so. A major car accident lead to some of my disabilities. Those records were destroyed because it had been 10 years, 2 months prior to my trial. I am unable to support myself due to multiple conditions. The back and forth of Disability and SSI has left me with nothing. I will never recommend this Law firm and will definitely let everyone know how insufficient they are with their communication. How they do not even see you as a person till deadline and then have it all wrong! One of my statements from the Judge quotes ”client claims to have Hyper Mobility disorder due to a vehicle accident in 2014.” That is the most ridiculous statement I have ever heard of. My Hyper Mobility issue is a birth defect. It has nothing to do with the accident, nor the titanium that has rebuilt my shattered right foot, or my spine and neck issues. What a load of crap!! I am now left pocket change and a very small amount to live on. This is absurd and I will tell Everyone how ridiculous this law firm is. I am not the first to be disappointed and I surely won’t be the last. I hope they enjoy taking money from the people who actually need it! Good Riddance!!!!

She promised me the world and delivered nothing. Charges for everything! A simple 2 minute call to forwarding an email to you will run you a minimum of $50. Retainer gone within a couple weeks and nothing accomplished.

This attorney showed a lack of interest and did nothing for the money. He was unresponsive and only asked for money when information was requested on the status of the case. He was not aware of the status of the file and I had more information that he did, yet his office was "on top of things". He was a waste of money and time.

Devin Mace was happy to take my $3,600 retainer, but then did nothing in regard to my case........he didn’t/doesn’t answer phone calls, he didn’t/doesn’t answer emails, he always has a family matter or is on vacation!!! I finally reported Mace to the Florida Bar, and explained to the Bar association that Mace not only did nothing for me/my case but that he should have his law license revoked in the state of Florida. Mace then asked the Bar association for some time to reply, and poof Mace magically had all this documentation of his hours/work, interesting seeing as how Mace never once documented anything he was doing for me. He never gave me an itemized accounting of his work, but of course he all the sudden had plenty of proof of work after he was contacted by the Florida Bar Association. Case in point, initially when I unfortunately made the tragic decision to hire mace, I gave him a box of old court reporting files etc.......and I told Mace that it is probably useless but if he wanted to hang onto it that was fine, jumping forward to my next attorney I hired after firing Devin Mace, my new attorney told me that the old court reporting documents etc were basically pointless with respect to going forward with my case. But mace of course, again after asking The Florida Bar association for an extension of time in order to defend himself, sent documentation to the Bar association stating that he spent hours and hours reviewing said pointless court reporting documents which cost me $1,200 according to a Mace!!! Long story short, mace then had the audacity to tell the Florida Bar that my total bill came to $3,900.......but that he wasn’t going to worry about the $300 balance due to him. Really, that’s amazing Mr. Mace, cause any lawyer I’ve ever known does not just forget about money due to them.......not to mention the fact that Mr. Mace not once sent me a bill and/or explaining to me that I went over the initial retainer. How convenient though, that once mace had to explain his side to the Bar that then and only then did he have documentation showing that I owed more than the original retainer!!! Come on, Mace.......really!!! Again, whatever you do........don’t hire and/or work with Devin Mace. And please spread the word to anyone else who may not have seen this Avvo review that they should avoid “Mace family law” at all cost!!! ~Kirk Stein~

I hired Mr. Mace and placed all my trust in him. Over time, specifically once my balance was paid in full, I could NEVER get in contact with him. He does not return calls nor respond to emails. Very unprofessional. He spoke to me like I was on trial, and did not consider my concerns. He never even allowed me to explain in full what my legal end state was. He waited a month to reply to a series of repeated emails from me requesting an update on my status, only to reply that he would have to get back to me when it was more convenient for him. He will not hesitate to take your money or take you on as a client, but do not expect that a dime of your money will be well spent. You would be better off consulting the Internet for legal advice.

Used Ms. Wright for L1 and Green Card application, documents were not signed, missing supporting documents not sent (which were provided), etc. There was a simple explanation that were required by Immigration Dept. and she couldn’t do that. Spend a lot of money and didn’t receive anything from this experience. Then she said I’m learning. We didn’t file with the FL. Bar, we just let it go. But still angry to this day about it.

Ms Wright is not a lawyer you want to have to go in front of a judge with. She falls apart. She lost the case because she was unprepared to present the case. She was missing documents that the judge asked for. She also failed to return my calls at the time leading up to the case. I spent more time talking to her assistant Betty than her. I would have taken this up with the FL bar but I was just fed up with the whole case.

I am a Real Estate Broker and had a chance to deal with many Title Insurance Companies, Closing Agents and Real Estate Law Firms. Like in any Industry, you find some good and some bad ones. Dealing with the Wright Law Firm saved a rather difficult Transaction (disagreements between Buyer & Seller), or at least helped dramatically in some rough situations by providing professional legal help.

Not a good lawyer. I had him for a probate/estate lawyer Not interested in devoting time into your issues. More interested in getting cases turned over to move onto to the next case. Won't fight for you, even if he know the other attorney is being dishonest. I find a common issue with bad lawyers are when you have to tell them the same thing numerous times. This was definitely the case with Mr. Eskin. I sent him numerous emails both in a folder and a via email and he never took the time to read them. Because he would acted surprised when the issue would arise again after the other attorney prepared his papers. Extremely frustrating.

Harold S Eskin is a poor lawyer who shouldn't be practicing law because he is INCOMPETENT. He thinks he knows what he is talking about but apparently does not. I hired him for two cases and BOTH times he failed me so, I fired his ass. Why? My first case was regarding a family member suing me regarding inheritance. Eskin told me that the case would be difficult because he is not friends with this particular judge. Seriously? You need to be friends with the judge? They teach that in law school? Whatever happened to law being impartial and "blind" to bias? Did I miss something? The second case I hired him for was for a tenant dispute which again, he failed me. Instead of fighting the plaintiff in court, he decides to issue motion to dismiss over and over until finally, the judge sided with the plaintiff and I LOST thanks to Eskin trying to win a case on default instead of fighting. There is a reason why he charges less than other regional lawyers----he SUCKS at what he does. He is first and foremost, a lawyer who specializes in adoption and surrogacy. Go help those who do not need substantial help, Harold. The profession needs you in that regard because as they always say, someone had to graduate last, right 'Hal'?

Mr. Pavese clearly stated what my charges would be for his services but once I received a settlement on my own, outside of court, he billed me almost double what the previous quote had been. Be sure to get your quote in writing so you are not overcharged after services are rendered.

I hired Ms. Richard-Hayes to handle my bankruptcy. I showed up for an appointment - she had another appointment at the same time. I came in and signed paperwork with an office person and received a call a couple days later telling me I still needed to come in. I showed up another time to Ms Richard-Hayes office to drop off payment, and it appeared she and her boyfriend/husband/whatever were in the midst of a very serious disagreement. On the day of my hearing, Ms. Richard-Hayes did not show up to court. Another lawyer approached me and told me he would be standing in. When my case was called, the court had not received the paperwork from Ms. Hayes office as required. The court postponed it for one week and had to send a request. I sent Ms. Richard-Hayes an e-mail telling her I was disappointed with the handling of my case to that point and the lack of communication with me, and she sent me a NASTY e-mail back saying that she had been more than professional and done everything to take care of me and was handling my case appropriately. I NEVER heard from her or her office again. I returned to court the following week; they had received the appropriate paperwork from Ms. Richard-Hayes; I answered the last questions and the court did whatever they do with the paperwork. About 4-6 weeks later I was notified in the mail FROM THE COURT (not Ms. Richard-Hayes) that my bankruptcy had been discharged. The only thing I go for paying her the fee was her filing the papers. Save yourself the money and go to a legal clinic and get the papers and file them yourself. You will save yourself a ton of money and when you get no customer service/help, at least you know you didn't pay for it!

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
