Cinde Marcus and her team handled my divorce 15 years ago. Time went by and I recently faced visitation issues. Again, called the office, and had full confidence that she would do her best. I wasn’t wrong. Fast, caring, responsive! I can’t express the gratitude I feel! Cinde Marcus is not just an amazing attorney, she is a big heart person and in her presence I always felt protected and cared for. Her handling my divorce and all the post divorce issues I consider as is one of the biggest blessings in my life! I would give Marcus Law Firm 100 stars if I could.

Attorney was aggressive towards others in the courtroom. She did not communicate with opposing attorney to provide evidence before trial. Attorney was unprofessional in her manner towards others. Really poor communication skills. Attorney admitted to client's fault in public place so there was a breach of confidentiality.

Horrible, Horrible representation. This attorney was extremely clear that I was in an extremely vulnerable divorce situation that was high conflict with soon-to-be-ex. She was not honest about the potential cost. Mostly, she did not return phone calls in a timely manner, she did not give me a clear understanding of my case and Indiana law, she was not my advocate, she was very shaming towards me, she seemed to actually side with opposing counsel. It was bizarre. I cannot fathom anyone needing to get a divorce, who is in a vulnerable situation because they were the "stay-at-home" parent having this attorney. She does not seem to be a women's advocate whatsoever. If you need someone who will have your back and fight for your rights...do not hire this attorney.

Tom has been helping my wife and I with a very long custody case for my daughter. For a very long time I have been made to feel like no one cared or wanted to help me do what was right and fair for my child. Tom gave me hope again and is continuing to work with us for me and my daughters rights to be loved by both parents. He understands a child needs both parents and he works hard for you.

I hired Thomas for a child support modification. Seemed to do a good job at the beginning. I lost my job so he did a modification to adjust child support. Once I got back to being employed, he stated to let him know and he would file a new modification. I emailed him numerous times to file a new modification. Unfortunately, and for whatever reason he never responded to numerous emails. Now I need a corrected order created and filed with the Courts. He has left me high and dry. Very unprofessional to say the least.

Turn down other firms HUGE MISTAKE. I waited 1 year for a phone call NOTHING so I called them. They said they forgot me. Then 1 month later they finally call me for my address. " Say what"? Give my address again for them to send me a letter they are dropping me. When other firms beg me for my case. And I foolishly stay with Cline to be forgotten then drop. Should have pulled out when this person was drop from his firm and went out on his own.

Ms. Keefe represents everything you DO NOT WANT IN YOUR ATTORNEY. She is slow, disorganized, negligent and above all she is INCOMPETENT. If she had the goal of intentionally sabotaging my case, she would not have been able to do a better job. She made so many mistakes and overlooked so many important case-altering details. Seeing her performance in the courtroom, where she came completely unprepared, I was forced to settle on unfavorable terms due to the complete absence of Ms. Keefe’s help and support despite having paid her legal fees in full. A few months later I went to see her with a list of her mistakes and overlooked details. I believed she owed me an explanation of why she failed me. I had to make up a reason for my visit (think billable hours!) as I could tell she did not want to see me. At that meeting, instead of owning up to her mistakes and negligence to which I had proof in my hand, Ms. Keefe came up with laughable ridiculous explanations, some of which were contradicting each other! Upon returning home, I received an email from her containing the following paragraph: "The reason I asked ahead of time what you wanted to discuss today was so that I could review my file before you got here, so that I could prepare and respond. Obviously, when you told me you wanted to ask about a modification of support, I did not review my file on the issues you raised today. It may take a while because of my schedule, but I will go back and refresh my recollection. Since you wanted to meet with me in person, I’m hoping you will do me the same service if I ask to meet you in person. But I won’t mislead you on my purpose. I will be in touch in the next few months." This email was sent to me ONE YEAR AGO, on October 6, 2019. Since then I have made numerous attempts to get in touch with Ms. Keefe but she ignores my attempts and does not communicate with me. I am still open to hear her out. If she meets with me as promised, I will revise my review. If she provides me with a reasonable explanation of why she failed my case, I will publish an apology to her. However, if this review is still up, then one should think why an attorney would lie and make a promise she does not intend to keep; why an attorney would hide from her long term client and risk having this review up if her conscience is clear?! Think about that before hiring her - do you really want to have an attorney who lacks not only competence but also integrity, honesty and decency? Ms. Keefe, if my claims are wrong, if you did not fail me, if you did not make mistakes, if you did not overlook important details, you have the power to get this review down and have me apologize to you by just proving me wrong. Why don't you take that chance?! Have some integrity, keep your promise and answer my questions. That’s the least you could do after failing my case. You failed as an attorney. Don't fail as a human being.

Hiring Ms. Keefe, from the Law Office of Maureen T. Keefe, was the biggest mistake of my life. She let me down in every possible way. Her work ethic was slow, inefficient, sloppy, disorganized, unethical and dishonest. Due to the long drawn out nature of my case, Ms. Keefe had ample time to look over every aspect of documentation that was made available to her but she failed to study any of these documents. She made so many mistakes. For example, she sent an agreement that was missing the most crucial part to the opposing party to be SIGNED. When I confronted her about this missing paragraph, she simply replied "it was a draft". A draft does not go on for signature. The missing vital component to the opposing party was a gross oversight that could have resulted in an even greater financial loss for my case. I cannot believe that an attorney that has been practicing law for 32 years could be so careless and irresponsible. She continued to overcharge me based on our initial contract and agreed upon rate. When I voiced my concerns to her on these overcharges, her response was that “if the judge orders the other party to pay the most of [your] legal expenses then it [the overcharge] won't hurt you”. Who pays Ms. Keefe’s fee should not dictate how much in overcharges Ms. Keefe invoices for, nor should this be her legal advice when confronted on addressing a discrepancy in a contracted rate. After my case was settled, I went to speak with her on my concerns on her lack of professionalism and how it hindered the outcome of my case. Her only explanation was that the final hearing went badly because "it was all political - the judge is democrat and I am republican" and "the judge is a friend of the opposing counsel". I did not inquire about why the final hearing ended in a negative outcome. My inquiry was why Ms. Keefe made so many mistakes. I have documentation that proves Ms. Keefe’s poor judgement and ill work ethic, all of which cannot be explained by someone’s political affiliation. At the end of our meeting to discuss her lack in judgement, she asked to be given time to review her notes and that she would get back to me with answers. To date, I have tried multiple attempts to reach Ms. Keefe, after providing a months’ worth of time to review my case. She is no longer answering my attempts to meet again to discuss my case. I feel that Ms. Keefe is intentionally ignoring me and does not plan to discuss my case any further. I find this to be completely unprofessional and feel that Ms. Keefe was simply using my case as a means of making a profit for herself only.

Maureen Keefe is an awesome Attorney. Maureen meets all the qualities that you would want from an Attorney representing you. She was my crimminal court Attorney. She knows all the ends and outs of the justice system. She also takes the time out to go with you to presentencing. She has loyalty and respect for you as a client and person. She has great experience representing people with a mental illness. Alot of Attorneys don't have experience in that area of the courts. She really works hard to make sure her client " DOESN'T GET SCREWED" by anyone. She makes sure you get the help that you need while you are trying to help yourself get well. You also gain a friend for life. Her faith is very strong! She doesn't tell you things that you want to hear. Very straight forward Attorney. She has common sense, very smart, and she's a very strong woman. Don't get in her way!

Quite Biased there are we not, one can only be approved for a review if we hired him??? This Lawyer claims to be a professional but then can't give a detailed bill for what he claims someone owes him. How is that fair or just? Why would someone be proud to be evicting their fellow man from their homes? Especially where children are usually concerned? When there are programs to keep people in their homes and HUD is not-was not established to make people homeless: And they give vouchers is someone is displaced. Eviction is for Public Housing and Commercial Property only! So, I do believe I would find something else to be proud of because he sees all.

The staff that works for this law firm is very unprofessional. I called trying to get my receipt and the lady was rude and hung up on me. No one wants to deal with people and their horrible and bad attitudes.

The degree to which Mr. Jeffrey Jinks mishandled my case was just astonishing. He filed a suit on my behalf despite my concerns that the issue had not been investigated. As a result of his rush decision because he did not confirm we had grounds for the suit, I, the plaintiff, ended up paying the respondents' legal fees. That's how "well" he represented me. Just let it sink for a second: I hired an expensive attorney who filed a suit on my behalf so I would end up paying even more money. My own attorney caused me damages. How funny is that?! I expressed my concerns several times that the issue should be investigated, but Mr. Jinks dismissed it every single time. Eventually I gave in as I trusted his experience and expertise. I guess I shouldn't have. I was not expecting such representation from an attorney who "has been practicing for over 20 years" as Mr. Jinks likes telling about himself. Honestly, a third-year law school student would have done a better job. Mr. Jinks pretends as if it was my choice to pay the respondents' legal fees because he presented me with several "options". But Mr. Jinks knows that none of these "options" was really an option. They included a suggestion to continue pursuing the case while he admitted we didn't have grounds or for me to hire a new attorney. Yes, after wasting money on him, Mr. Jinks offered me to spend even more money to clean up the mess he created. We all make mistakes. That's a thing we all have in common. What makes us different is what we do about our mistakes and whether we make them right. Mr. Jinks failed there, too. Not only he did not admit his mistake, he stated "he feels great" about how he handled the case. But as it turned out, the case mishandling was not the only mistake Mr. Jinks made. While preparing documents, Mr. Jinks used a wrong name, a cherry on top of the mess he created. Truly, a very disappointing experience.

I was never contacted with any updates and after a few months of having Darron as my attorney, without any discussion or call to me before doing so, he decides to pass me off to another attorney which was even worse at his job. 8 months later and no call from Darron, despite my many attempts to reach him. All I get is the new attorney calling me back all aggressive and nasty. This new attorney is good at one thing, which is the art of deflection. Whenever I would call to ask what the status was on my case, he would make up a line of bs and always quick to put the blame on someone else. Just because my case wasn't a $100,000 case, doesn't make it right to toss me aside like scraps to the dogs. I am still waiting to get a call back from Darron, because my new joke of an attorney is absolutely worthless. I WILL NEVER USE STEWART & STEWART AGAIN! NEVER AGAIN!

It doesn't seem that "Robert" wants to actually associate himself with his clients or customers. Instead, he leaves it to his very rude secretary Jamie who is not only A B but also a HUGE C who shouldn't have any type of clerical job due to her lack in customer service care skills or just simply theact of being kind. I have never spoke to someone as rude as her and recommend she be fired. Last time I had tried to call and speak with the actual "lawyer" she mimicked my voice and insulted me.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
