After sustaining an injury at an Amazon warehouse, Cezar Torrez was able to effectively advocate for my rights. Through efficient negotiations, he secured a settlement that aligned with the terms we had previously discussed. As a result of his efforts, I am currently undergoing treatment and am in the process of recuperating. This review serves as a means to express my sincere appreciation and gratitude for Cezar Torrez's outstanding work.

Mr. Kaplan represented me in a Social Security Disability Insurance claim after it was remanded to the original administrative law judge. Mr. Kaplan further developed the medical record and represented me at two hearings on remand. My claim had gone to a hearing and been appealed to Appeals Council when I was by another attorney. Although it was successfully appealed, I was not completely satisfied with the previous attorney's handling of the claim and hearing. I had an understanding with my attorney that I wished to find someone else to represent me in the hearing on remand, but it was nearly impossible to find anyone who would take my case. Mr. Kaplan was willing to work with me and make a fee splitting arrangement with my previous attorney. Mr. Kaplan is one of a few attorneys (if that) in the Sacramento area who will appeal Social Security cases to federal court. I wanted to be sure that my attorney would preserve the relevant issues for appeal at the hearing. I was very fortunate that Mr. Kaplan took my case because: (1) I had a difficult judge with a low grant rate, (2) his fee would be reduced by half though he would have to take time to review the existing mountain of medical evidence and obtain ongoing evidence, and (3) my claim was challenging. Mr. Kaplan is truly dedicated to serving clients with disabilities and knowledgeable about the complexities and developments in Social Security Disability practice. He and his staff work hard, and provide zealous representation to their clients, and are friendly and courteous. I would recommend Mr. Kaplan's practice wholeheartedly.

Meriam is a pleasure to work with. She gives competent, legal representation and remains very aware of the client's best interest. The thing I appreciate most is how aware Meriam of the impact of her billable hours on a company. She worked hard to get to a good end result with a minimum of billable hours - a trate I have not always experienced from other attornies. .

This lawyer seems to be quite expertise in this field as well as very responsive. He jumped right into my case and was avid about seeing this through. He not only spoke about making a plan for my situation he also listened when I had questions. This lawyer seems to be very proffessional and yet down to earth and easy to understand my situation.

I contacted Michael for assistance with a child custody case. I am a Senior IT professional who resides in a remote area and was looking for an Attorney who was familiar working remote/over the internet and had extensive experience in family law and was IT savvy. What made me decide to choose Michael? Well see for yourself at his website at www.rivercityattorney.com For me Michael was the perfect fit! He was a Court appointed Minors counsel, was comfortable working with long distance clients via internet, and was the Chair of Technology section of the Sacramento Co. Bar for 3 years! I felt very confident after reading his credentials I was approaching the Attorney I needed! I was not wrong! He is very patient, honest, caring, responsive, knowledgeable, trustworthy, and professional. He was aggressive in representation and negotiation of my case, top notch skills! He is a straight shooter and was up front about what I needed to do on my own part and when it needed to be accomplished. He supported and guided me every step of the way through a very stressful and difficult situation and made it clear the details of the case were of the utmost importance. He helped me obtain clarity on what was needed as the case progressed and was not lax on providing digital copies of any documents needed. Michael does not outsource any work to paralegals or secretaries which was a plus for me as any communications I had with Michael were from him, and were prompt. If you find yourself in a situation requiring legal representation I highly recommend Mr. Michael Crosson! I can't say enough good things about him in this review. If you are looking and find yourself on the fence, don't hesitate, contact him!

A friend suggested I hire Michael to help with a custody case. My ex and I really didn't see eye to eye on anything and we went round and round trying to deal with it ourselves. Finally I had enough and was ready to go to court. Michael was very knowledgeable about family law and listened to my issues. He gave me my options and we discussed the best to handle my situation in detail. After mediation and court I was happy with the results. He was prepared and professional. My bill was a little higher than I expected, but not unfair. It was well worth it to have more peace now. Thanks Michael!

I first hired Ms. Wallace to represent me in a conservatorship for my mother in 1992. Ms. Wallace was not only knowledgeable and reliable, but easy to talk with. (Not all attorneys are!) She helped me ably through a variety of difficulties related to the conservatorship, and I appreciated her moral support as well. Subsequently my wife and I engaged Ms. Wallace's services for our own estate planning. We have been consistently happy with her knowledgeability, thoroughness and timely communication. Being represented by Ms. Wallace during these 21 years has been an excellent experience. Without reservation, I would recommend Diana Wallace to anyone who needs an attorney skilled in conservatorship, family trusts or estate planning.

I retained Ms. Wallace as the probate attorney for estate handling of my aunt and uncle who died in April and June 2013 (and whose wills she drafted earlier this year). After only one week of representing me as the executor, Ms. Wallace provided legal counsel to one of the seven beneficiaries without my knowledge or consent. Ms. Wallace provided confidential financial information and misinformation regarding assets, she also provided possible distribution scenarios to the beneficiary and yet subsequently advised me to seek CPA advice on how to handle those exact same assets. Ms. Wallace was contacted directly by email by an alleged beneficiary/surviving heir of the estate, and without so much as even contacting me, Ms. Wallace provided six paragraphs of confidential financial information, possibilities of asset distribution (one even implying that the beneficiary would be the only person to receive insurance and investment proceeds), itemization and appraisal of assets, probate deadlines by which I (as the executor) am bound by, and rights of a beneficiary with respect to hearing attendance and the objection process. Ms. Wallace acted inappropriately and to the detriment of my estate handling. She also lacked legal knowledge and expertise on many of the issues that remained as a result of the cookie-cutter wills she drafted for my aunt and uncle, despite several hours of discussion with them prior to their deaths. Due to her mishandling of my case, I was forced to terminate her immediately.

This attorney showed horrible communication skills and didnt have my best interest in mind when litigating a settlement for me. She sends her office assistant Ruth to handle matters that she is not even qualified to handle. Per Ruth "I am handling your settlement signing because I cant get in trouble since I am not a licensed paralegal". Deborah Hadwen insulted me by implying I would never win in court due to my appearance. I fired her.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.

Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.

Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
