I retained Chris and his firm to appeal my property taxes a few years ago. One of the best decisions of my life! He has saved me thousands of dollars in property taxes, by consistently reducing my assessment. I have also referred him to other friends/family who own businesses throughout Cook County. The positive feedback has been incredible. He is patient, very hands on and will walk you through the process. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED if you want to pay less in property taxes.

Annamarie has handled a number of matters for me including business formation, real estate transactions, contract matters and agreements. Annamarie has advised me on numerous items related to my business and real estate dealings including how best to structure my company, how to protect myself, partnership agreements, contract development, the list goes on. Annamarie is always my first call when I have a question and if she can't answer it her extensive network of trusted associates are there to help me. I offer my highest recommendation for Annamarie and her ability to counsel and advise on the most important and pressing issues.

Mr. Weisberg could be accurately described with two words. Class Act. My wife and I were injured while on vacation in Chicago and did not know where to turn. Through the friend of our family came the recommendation for Mr. Weisberg. His response was prompt and he immediately put us at ease with his approach. Having not had to deal with a situation like this before, my wife and I were skeptical to say the least. Josh's assurance that our focus at the time should be on our health and not our legal matters was something that stood out in comparison to the other attorney that we met. Once we were able to return to good enough health to deal with our legal issue, Josh and the staff at Rapoport Law Offices were there to guide us through the complex steps of dealing with a personal injury lawsuit that would have otherwise encompassed our entire lives. Josh took the time throughout the entire process to educate us and explain to us what was going on each step of the way. I would not only recommend Joshua Weisberg as a qualified, focussed, intelligent, and compassionate Personal Injury attorney, but I would also now consider him a friend. If you are looking for an individual that will take the time to understand your unique needs and how the law applies to them, Josh Weisberg would be someone to consider. Thanks to Josh and everyone at Rapoport Law Offices. We are happy that our path crossed under the circumstance that existed.

Glenn successfully handled a real estate tax matter for me and for family members. Possibly even more important than the good result was Glenn's ability and willingness to explain the process and how we could effectively assist in the process. He was always responsive and courteous (which, unfortunately, I cannot say about many lawyers).

I had been dealing with painful sores on my hands and feet. After many failed treatments my dermatologist had me tested for contact allergies and found that I was contacting allergens at work causing these break outs. I was on short term disability because work did not want to admit they had any responsibility. After consulting with Mr. Kenneth Wolfe, he agreed to represent me. Mr. Wolfe was able to change my case from Short Term Disability to Workman’s Compensation. Mr. Wolfe got the company to pay, back compensation, from my first day of work missed. Mr. Wolfe was able to get the company to pay for Vocational Rehabilitation. During Vocational Rehabilitation, I went to school to learn a new set of skills so I would be able to return to the work force. Throughout this process, Mr. Wolfe ensured that my employer paid for everything while continuing to pay me. Mr. Wolfe always kept me informed of the process and let me know what the next step was going to be. He was easy to contact and quick to respond to any problems or questions. In the end Mr. Wolfe was able to negotiate a settlement that I found to be fair. Mr. Wolfe and his staff are true professionals, that care for their clients. It was a difficult time that was made easier knowing that I had Mr. Kenneth Wolfe and his staff representing and fighting fore me. I would highly recommend Wolfe Law.

Ms. Attorney White handled my speeding ticket court case which was classified as a felony because it was over 40mph. I currently live in Chicago but according to the state trooper I had to report to Rolling Meadows IL. The time I was suppose to appear in court I was scheduled to be out of town handling work business and Ms Attorney White was able to get my court date push back and received a notice of permission to travel. The judge allowed me to pay $100 to get my license back that day and I received court supervision for a couple of months. Shes a knowledgeable and detailed attorney.

I am 43 and have been in the printing industry since I was 15 years old. This is the only thing I know how to do. I have never been unemployed in my life, ever. Five years ago I was employed at a Minuteman Press Franchise and was sold 20% shares in the company. I helped build that shop from losing 5k a month to 500k in gross sales per year. We had growth every year. I never was given a raise for five years. I asked for one repeatedly but was always told no. So I decided to start my own print shop. I gave my notice July 6th 2010 and it was accepted and left two weeks later. I started my shop August 2 and everything was fine. Until they found out and I began to receive cease and desist letters. I contacted an attorney which responded to the letter but then told me I needed a trial attorney. I paid another attorney and he took my money and began to negotiate on my behalf. He then tells me I have to shut down and move my shop out of Joliet. We parted ways and I found another firm very reputable here in town. They looked into the fiduciary duty and told me a few days later that the courts are divided on those cases. They then said it would be too difficult to defend, keep in mind I DID NOT have a non-compete contract. So I almost called it quits! I then contacted Querry & Harrow and John Brom. He took my case and said not to worry and kept me focused on my business while he took care of the legal stuff. We then fought the injunction to shut me down and not only won that part but also forced them to settle the case and end this nightmare I found myself in. John saved me and my business and I can continue to do the work that I have done for my entire life. I am so grateful to have met John, he has changed my life and my employees.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
