Jonetta Gadson is a great Guardian at Litem if you are in need of one! She takes her time to listen and to observe! She is easy to talk to, and seems to have a good 'read' on her clients and others involved in each case. I would highly recommend her!!!

Secretary is his wife and is very rude. She will ask you to explain what you were needing help with then when you do then she don’t want to listen then she wants to be rude and interrupt the whole time. I believe that They also do cases with conflict of interest, given some circumstances of cases that I have been a client at this practice, then turn around and I have been a victim of a client they had with their practice as well.

Beware, he throws cases, for pleas in other cases. Convinced me to pick a county commissioner to be on my jury, and did not make me aware that he was a commissioner. The commissioner ended up being the Forman. Not to mention his Secretary is very rude.

I will say that Mr. Goldstein is a pleasant man and easy to talk to and my bankruptcy was started in early to mid of 2020 and my wife and I completed our paperwork in late August and the Bankruptcy itself was completed in January of this year and today (October 18th, 2021) I found out that the re-affirmation of my automobile loan in which I paid extra for was not accepted by my loan company and although I never miss a payment and still haven't so I can keep my car which is great, but it will not help my credit score at all which is not good. I talked to the lady in his office and was told that she attempted to contact my loan company to re-affirm it but they did not respond (either accidentally or due to covid). This being said to me makes me wonder why I was never contacted by my attorneys' office and told that it was not re-affirmed even though I paid extra for it.

Hired Debbie as an attorney, I heard she was known as the "barracuda". This woman turned out to be the most hateful and rude person I have ever met (not exaggerating). You will prepare you own case and evidence, and if you do will not use it. Otherwise she is going to make deals with the judge and lawyer because thats what she knows how to do. She isn't good at litigating unfortunately, she truly doesn't know Ohio Code that well, and to be perfectly honest I think she is phoning it in for money at her age. I end up saying she isn't a barracuda but a catfish-bottom feeder with her hand out for 500$.

Communication throughout the case was often very poor, with Anna often having a combative tone with questions pertaining to the case. She was unprepared for both the pretrial and the hearing. Despite me repeatedly asking throughout the case for what materials they needed to prepare for each, I was told all was well until the night before when I then needed to go collect multiple papers from various locations. Prior to the hearing I was told to not bring anything, however my paperwork and evidence was needed to get a favorable result. Overall she seems unprofessional and unkind towards her clients, in my experience.

Adult protective services of Ross county sent me to him for my Grandmothers guardianship. Not very informative or professional constantly saying "we will go over that later" to my questions yet had time to tell me how "lucrative" guardianships have been for him and he "himself is paid guardian for 8 people, but no more or I'd have to take a special class". RED FLAGS..we are not on the same page sir. After inquiring about fees (current and future)and how much he had ALREADY been paid by APS one last time before court the Paralegal - Co council (said sarcastically) left me a voicemail "They were returning advanced funds back to APS, as they would not represent me in this matter". WHAT is really going on here?! I asked too many questions, I think NOT. The "clerical" help is rude and you never get to speak directly with the actual Attorney.

Hired Mr. Bugg at a flat rate of $1500. After reopening the case, he demands another $2000 without even going to pretrial and missed 2 times to file for contempt. He never once asked to see any of my evidence of any sort pertaining to the case. When I received his invoice, he doubled his time so there wouldn't be a refund of any sort. Just a forwarning, stay completely away from this shuyster if you want a chance of a fair trial.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
