Worst experience, i told them my case I am a homeowner and every week they had me confused with others asking about my landlord and my lease agreement when i own the home and told them over and over. They are a waste of time sent over 100 emails and his staff is completely incompetent.

I do not want to share at the time . Worst experience that turned out due to ending relationship with Bui and Ilya. My advise is as follows : Go with big firms even if they do not say they they will do contingency -there are exceptions. We paid 400 for initial but it was waived and the other partners all agreed and voted to accept case, the new firm that is. Research everything you are told and question....bad attorney will Lie about statutes and time limits and say you have a bad case so take the low offer just to avoid working it.

I'm still shocked on the terrible representation that I recieved from this attorney. I don't even know where to start! She's definitely more concern on charging billable hours than actually doing her job and having her clients best interest. My case was as easy as they come. She calls me a day before my hearing saying that I had nothing to worry about. That the judge was going to follow the recommendation of the mediator, which was in my favor, and it would be impossible for the judge to order my daughter to attend a private school or for me to pay for that. Well, come the day of the hearing and she's late! The hearing was at 9am and she walks in at 8:57am. She told me the day before to meet her 15 minutes before the hearing to go over my case. She stubbled through the opening statement unprepared, writing notes the whole time and what's worst, she fails to present crucial evidence to the court! Needless to say, she lost my case. I lost full physical custody of my little girl and paying a private school. When I called her the next day to asked her why she failed to do what I had hired her to do... All she could say was "sorry" and that we can come back to court and present the evidence she failed to present this time. Meaning... more billable hours! She still has the nerve to send me a bill, after she exhausted my retainer and what the court had granted her. You are better of representing yourself than hiring this attorney.

Heather passed away Sept 2015. They both were working on my sell at the time. Understandably, Shirley was devastated. I had to scramble on my own really quickly, but I dont hold that against her. She'd just lost her only child to an undetected illness. I will hire Shirley again in the future. Heather was a very professional real estate agent and I'm sorry I can't hire her again. Shirley was attentive, professional, and knowledgeable. I felt well taken care of.

The lack of compassion and professionalism that Mr. Hernandez displayed towards my family and I was down right distributing. Mr. Hernandez briefly represented me in a family law case agiast me and my soon to be ex-wife. Where we share IVF conceived son . Same sex marriage After never being able to get a hold of him, he would go weeks without returning phone calls. Sometimes it got so bad I’d have to from different numbers just for him to respond. Due to his lack of preparation, mr Hernandez was supposed to file paperwork with the court on my behalf opposing said motions. And we went to court the judge had informed him that he never filed a response with the court after a least a 3 months continues . She also said we ran the risk of her granting all of their motions because he NEVER filed a response. And when I inquired he asked me who my son (Father) was. And I said he was a ivf baby noted in my file he doesn’t have a father but has 2 moms . Then proceeded to ask if I knew my sons father. I mentioned again… my son doesn’t have a father hes a donor baby. He was trying to see if he could split custody 3 ways. Which was bizarre, and not appropriate at all He also mentioned he never filed a motion because he was saving me money. So I was confused on what I was paying for. And when I asked more questions, he said we can substitute out and hung up on me. When dealing with family law you must understand that these cases are extremely complex. Treated my case more so as corporate law I plan to file further action with state bar.

We have had two settlement deposition. One, he called 25 minutes before meeting to cancel stating "he is sick". Second deposition, he never showed up, called...nothing. His Associate showed up 20 minutes after the time of the meeting, no court reporter (as required) and ill-prepared. Felt bad for her, she was only the messenger. But how unprofessional can Rudy Lopez be.....BEWARE

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
