I went in to see Mr abell and I felt all was lost. I had not been able to see my kids for 5 months. Mr. Abell assured me that everything would be OK. him and his team got busy and got me the results that was needed. I read some of the reviews on here. And it may seem like he is not working for you. Because he don’t agree with everything we feel to be right. He does what’s in the best interest of the children involved!! And I for one appreciate the way him and his staff made me feel like I was family. I would recommend him to all my friends and family.

Mr. Abell represented me for my case. He was great and reasonable to work with. Explained everything well and broke it down if needed. I really appreciate him and his time to represent me. Thanks again Mr. Abell.

My sister recommended Mr Cohn to me. She said "he will fight for you." He helped me get divorced from my cheating POS husband in a timely manner. He gave excellent advice and did not judge me when I had to bash in my husband's mistress' windows. He even recommended a useful lawyer to help get me off with an expungement. Just make sure you don't go over time in your meetings.

My sister-in-law was referred to this office through the legal team of her employer which is a Fortune 500 company. She has had 2 consultation appointments with this office of which they have called the day of the appointment to reschedule. Today was the second or third reschedule which the young lady said it was due to weather as it is storming out. I advised my sister to let them know that she cannot keep taking off from work, due the office rescheduling the consultations. The young lady was not willing to try to work with her to fit her schedule, either she would have to fit their schedule or refer back to her referring team to find someone else. As their only offers in office consultations, they do not offer over the phone consultations. If this office is this nonchalant and inconsistent before you are actually a client, imagine being a client of Attorney Cohn. I cannot speak for the attorney; however, the staff running the office is speaking volumes for me. I would definitely look elsewhere for legal counsel, especially if you are looking for a divorce attempting to protect yourself and your children from a dangerous environment or person.

My personal experience was a great one with Mr. Cohn representing me. Many people's reviews with lawyers are based on the outcomes of their case, even that factor aside, Mr. Cohn and his team were great. My case was not an overly complicated one, however, Mr. Cohn took the time to answer any questions I had and explain the laws or factors surrounding the laws. He was honest and forthcoming explaining that even when a great lawyer does everything they can for a case, it does not guarantee success but a great lawyer will make sure you understand that and are prepared. His team I worked with, Kelli and Whitney, were both prompt in communication with me and Mr. Cohn returned all my calls extremely timely. He was fair in the prices he charges and explains them clearly to you. I thought his honesty with me to be an admirable quality of his for this line of work and he was a great attorney for me and my needs. Putting your mind at ease or comfort from finally getting resolution to your case can be life changing and I am glad that I took the time to look around and go with Mr. Cohn. Thank you all again for everything.

Attorney Hoffman and his Secretary Annette were both just great. I can remember on two occasions when they went above and beyond the call of service. First, Mr. Hoffman provided me with step by step instructions on how to proceed after I was served papers by the sheriff’s office on behalf of the creditor that was suing us. He had me come to his office and he printed out the answer form that I need to take with me to the court, to Answer the judgment. Secondly, On our way to our Bankruptcy court hearing My husband and I got lost, I called his office, very stressful because we were almost late on getting there, spoke with Annette she gave me directions, stayed on the phone with me until we got there, and when we turned the corner Attorney Hoffman was right at the door looking for us and gestured us in his direction, he said we were up next, a sense of relieve came over me, for we had made it on time. Thanks to Annette for being at the office to assist us on finding the place. I called Annette back to thank her for staying on the phone with me and understanding that I was very stressful at the time, she was very understanding, and as a matter of fact she said that she was texting Mr. Hoffman to let him know that we were lost but we were very close and should arrive very soon. Kudos to that Team!

My husband and I went to seek council for a bankruptcy. From the moment we made the appointment the service was a joke. We were lied to by one member of the staff, then for lack of any better explanation verbally assaulted and talked down to by his paralegal who then openly flirted with my husband in front of me and then told me how to raise my special needs child...keep in mind all of this after they couldn't even manage to get our names correct. The final nail in the coffin was when I was able to get Mr. Hoffman on the phone. I relayed to him the events of our meeting and expressed my concerns, not only for myself but for anyone else unlucky enough to come into his office when he is away, and his EXACT words to me were, "Well she will be the one handling your file so if you can't work with her find another lawyer." Having worked in the legal system all I can say is I am shocked. If you value yor time and money and have any sense of self worth I strongly urge you to seek council elsewhere.

Lilian is my fiancee Attorney. He is currently incarcerated in Muscogee County Jail. He has a court date this Friday and it's now Monday and she has not yet been to speak with him at all. How can an Attorney do there job properly if they have never even spoken with their client. He has no idea what she even looks like. I'm concerned that my fiancee will not receive proper representation.

I was referred to Ms. Hardy after another attorney had screwed me over in a divorce. She was very professional and compassionate. Got my divorce completed in a timely manner. The price she charged me was very reasonable compared to the other attorneys I spoke with. She was always available when I called if not she called me right. Her staff was exceptional. I would highly recommend Ms. Hardy.

Never go to Maxine Hardy! She over charges you and then does absolutely nothing she is supposed to do. They screwed up my papers which stalled my case even more then Maxine had already done. She is the sorriest excuse for a lawyer I have ever seen in my entire life. I now have hired another lawyer to help get my well deserved money back and to get what I paid Maxine to do in the first place! Please do NOT waist your time and money.

Oh man, I hired her in June. Finally in October I called because I wasn’t happy. Had no court date set up, no temporary orders. Probably 75% of my retainer was spent. I attempted to contact multiple times. At the end when I said I wanted to fire her, I got a call back within 24 hours. Was told I never reached out, I had documentation that I never received anything from her. Cherry on top, got charged $45 for the phone call where I fired her.

I made a divorce consult with Lynn Grogan weeks in advance-I’d heard she was a great attorney. Had no issues scheduling and even called the office to confirm after scheduling that my husband was not also consulting with her because he told me he was going to use her for his attorney. The office ASSURED me he had not been scheduled for a consult. Well, the DAY BEFORE our appointment she cancels because she had in fact met with my husband and had been retained by him. SHE WASTED MY TIME.

Leslie was recommended to me when my ex wanted to modify custody. An ad litem was appointed to review the custody and he did his part but Leslie did absolutely little to nothing except "talk" to me about what he was going to do but never did. I communicated with the ad litem directly. It took almost 5 years to end up where we started and that was no change in custody and over 5000.00. His assistant is very pompous and disrespectful. Unprofessional. Leslie doe not need to continue to take on cases and accept money when it is obvious that his case load is extremely out of balance. It is not fair at all to his new clients.....

Mr. Cohn was referred to me by a friend and she gave him high remarks. He did nothing for me, besides take my money. His paralegal that handled my case was extremely rude. I even informed him how she treats the clients, but it did not change her treatment towards me (or possibly others). He did such a horrible job that I had to hire a different attorney to take my ex back to court. Mr. Cohn is expensive and will have you make an appointment with him (after the first charge consultation) only to burn up your retainer and not actually do any "lawyering." If I knew then what I know now I would have filed a Board Complaint.

My initial experience (consultation and a short time thereafter) was good- things were happening within a decent time frame, such as communication with the opposing attorney. However, after I paid the retainer fee, I experienced disappointing results. Emails were not returned. A phone call from me would literally not be responded to for 4 weeks. After my phone call not being returned on two separate occasions for that long of a time frame, I ended the services. Months after ending services, I received important documents in the mail that Mr. Partin had received months back- he realized that he had never provided them to me. I was disappointed with the experience and have since sought legal counsel from a different firm.

On March 6, 2018 I consulted with Attorney Katonga Wright to appeal a judgment. I spent about an hour providing complete and factual details in reference to my case. It is complex so I wanted to give her all of the information which was a large file that she copied. Ms. Wright asked many questions and took notes as I spoke. She offered sympathy at the fact that I had gone through all of this when I had not done anything wrong. She stated that I was not properly served and the amount the defendant took me back to court for was incorrect. She said that if one thing was wrong with the judgment that I was not present for, it rendered everything wrong and was a cause for an appeal. She explained that she used to work in Magistrate court and was confident that this could be resolved in my favor. On March 12, 2018 I emailed Ms. Wright confirming the services that she would provide for me. On March 13, 2018 she said she would review what was necessary and be in contact with me. On April 20, 2018 I asked for a full refund because she held my case beyond the 30-day appeal period. Had she informed me in a timely manner I could have sought legal counsel with another attorney. As of today I have contacted three other attorneys but have been unsuccessful in getting anyone to take my case. I am devastated that she held my case for so long before letting me know that she was not going to represent me. She knew I was declined for a home loan because this judgment is on my record. To date I have not been able to purchase a home. This has been a nightmare and instead of helping resolve the issue she made things worse when I did not think it was possible. Only after filing a grievance with the Georgia State Bar did I find out that she charged $500 for finding out information I gave her at our initial consultation. Her lack of response to my several (phone and email) attempts to communicate with her cost me money and time.

Closed on a house with this attorney 3 months ago, still have not received the Deed in the mail. I have been calling about this and left several messages, never gotten an answer from him. I was finally able to talk to him on the phone today, and to my shock as soon as he found out that it was me that had called, he immediately showed lots of annoyance in his voice, he started yelling at me saying he doesn't understand why I need the paper deed, that in this day and age no one needs a paper deed, never mentioning the fact that I had paid for the paper deed and a title insurance, which he refused to send to me. He finally agreed to mail me the paperwork, but only after yelling at me and telling me how annoyed he is at me for even asking for the paperwork. At this point I have no idea if I really am going to receive the paperwork in 2 weeks.

Top Questions to Ask a Lawyer

When meeting with a lawyer for the first time, it's important to ask the right questions to understand their expertise and determine if they're the right fit for your legal needs. Here are some top questions to consider:

  1. What experience do you have with cases similar to mine?
Ensure the lawyer has relevant experience in the specific area of law pertaining to your case.
  2. How do you charge for your services, and what are the estimated costs?
Understand the fee structure, including hourly rates, flat fees, retainer fees, and any additional expenses.
  3. What potential outcomes can I expect from my case?
While no lawyer can guarantee results, they can provide an assessment of possible scenarios based on their experience.
  4. What is your approach to handling cases like mine?
Learn about their strategy, whether they prefer negotiation, mediation, or litigation.
  5. Who will be working on my case?
Find out if the lawyer will handle your case personally or delegate tasks to other attorneys or paralegals.
  6. How will you communicate with me throughout the process?
Establish expectations for updates, preferred communication methods, and response times.
  7. What is the likely timeline for resolving my case?
Get an estimate of how long the process may take from start to finish.
  8. Do you have references from past clients?
Testimonials or references can provide insight into the lawyer's professionalism and effectiveness.
  9. What are the strengths and weaknesses of my case?
Understanding potential challenges helps you prepare and sets realistic expectations.
  10. Are there alternative ways to solve my legal problem?
Discuss options like mediation, arbitration, or settlement to resolve the issue efficiently.

How to Check the Credibility of a Lawyer

Before hiring a lawyer, it's crucial to verify their credibility and ensure they're qualified to handle your case:

  1. Verify Their License:
Check with your state's bar association to confirm the lawyer is licensed and in good standing.
  2. Experience and Specialization:
Ensure the lawyer specializes in the area of law relevant to your case.
  3. Disciplinary Record:
Look up any history of disciplinary actions or complaints through the state bar association.
  4. Client Reviews and Testimonials:
Read reviews on legal directories like Avvo, Martindale-Hubbell, or Google to gauge client satisfaction.
  5. Professional Memberships:
Membership in professional organizations or specialty bar associations can indicate a commitment to their field.
  6. Awards and Recognitions:
Honors from reputable organizations reflect expertise and a positive reputation.
  7. Consultation Assessment:
Use the initial consultation to evaluate their communication skills, responsiveness, and willingness to address your concerns.
  8. Ask for References:
A credible lawyer should be willing to provide references from past clients.

What Should I Prepare for My First Consultation?

To make the most of your initial meeting with a lawyer, come prepared with:

  1. Relevant Documents:
Bring all documents related to your case, such as contracts, correspondence, legal notices, court papers, or evidence.
  2. Written Summary:
Prepare a concise written summary of your situation, including key dates, events, and involved parties.
  3. List of Questions:
Write down any questions you have about your case, the legal process, or the lawyer's experience.
  4. Financial Information:
If applicable, bring financial documents like pay stubs, tax returns, or bank statements.
  5. Contact Information:
Provide details of any witnesses or other parties relevant to your case.
  6. Personal Identification:
Bring a valid ID for verification purposes.
  7. Pen and Notebook:
Take notes during the consultation to remember important points.
  8. Budget Constraints:
Be ready to discuss your budget and any financial limitations.

How Much Does a Lawyer Cost?

The cost of hiring a lawyer varies widely based on several factors:

  • Fee Structures:
    • Hourly Rate:
Lawyers may charge anywhere from $150 to $500 or more per hour, depending on experience and location.
    • Flat Fee:
For routine legal services like drafting a will or handling an uncontested divorce, lawyers might offer a flat fee.
    • Retainer Fee:
An upfront payment against which the lawyer bills hourly fees.
    • Contingency Fee:
Common in personal injury cases; the lawyer receives a percentage (typically 25% to 40%) of any settlement or award.
    • Monthly Retainer:
For ongoing services, businesses might pay a monthly fee for a set number of hours or services.
  • Factors Affecting Cost:
    • Complexity of the Case:
More complex cases require more time and resources, increasing costs.
    • Lawyer's Experience:
Highly experienced lawyers may charge higher fees.
    • Geographic Location:
Legal fees can vary significantly by region or city.
    • Additional Expenses:
Court filing fees, expert witness fees, travel expenses, and administrative costs may be extra.
  • Estimating Total Costs:
Request a detailed fee agreement outlining all potential costs.
Discuss any additional expenses that may arise during the case.
  • Negotiating Fees:
Some lawyers may be willing to negotiate fees or offer payment plans, especially for clients with financial constraints.
  • Pro Bono Services:
For those who cannot afford legal services, some lawyers or legal aid organizations offer services at reduced rates or for free.
